This wasn't all that great in my opinion. The combat was ok at times, but it was really just dodging and button mashing. Most of the time, with all the visual flare, I couldn't even tell what the hell I was doing. Also, everything else in between (e.g., platforming, puzzles, and other gameplay sequences) was pretty crappy and really affected the flow of the game. So far, I've enjoyed playing Darksiders more than this. I'll probably trade this in for Mass Effect 2 or GoW3.

Last I checked this game has sold about 500,000 copies worldwide, according to figures form VGChartz, and since game sales seem to dwindle in weeks after their launch I think they'll be lucky if Bayonetta even break 1 million copies in its life, and it's a shame because this really is such an effing cool game, I'm surprised that with all the great critical reception it didn't do better. It probably won't help sales being that a slew of anticipated titles are releasing in the coming weeks like Mass Effect 2, MAG, No More Heroes 2, Bioshock 2, Dante's Inferno, Alien vs Predator, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, and Final Fantasy XIII, and such. Anyhow, I just hope this game at least breaks even on costs, hopefully it's able to turn a good profit because I'd like to see another one.

I think what hurt sales most was the leading female character being overly sex up, which doesn't hurt the quality of games but has become somewhat of a sign that a game is using sex appeal to mask a game lacking any redeeming value. I blame previous games that did this like Velvet Assassin, Onechanbara, X-Blades, Rumble Roses, Golden Axe, and Bullet Witch. I think when people look at Bayonetta their first impression is that it might just be another piece of shovelware trying to use sex appeal to sell, which is unfortunate because it's a very solid hit. I thought it was quite challenging, lots of fun, and had a solid combat system and having played through it several times I must say it has lots of replay value.
