totaly agree. 3D is a NWO conspiracy. Best soapbox Ever. Kojima needs to make a MGS about the 3D conspiracy.

I hated the movie. Not only because of the 3-D to it, but because that movie like had no action to it what so ever.
people help! i am wondering if i should buy a 3D monitor.... it says that with navidia it can transform some games.. but is it worth 499? and is it going to be another passing phase.
Here's my thing with 3D as a gamer and a flimmaker: "Avatar" was a great movie, and the 3D was amazing. It's not amazing cause its OMG 3D! But its because James Cameron used the technology in a new, creative way that I (and apparently most other people I've talked to) had never seen before. But for every "Avatar", therell 5 or 10 "My Bloody Valentine" or "The Final Destination".3D has become hyped again, and it will continue to be the same jump-out-at-your-face tech its been since the 70s. Its sad but I really dont believe many filmmakers or game studios will use 3D in a way that we havent seen before.
This reminds me of the whole VR thing when I was a kid. There was actually a store that peddled those clunky head sets in my city, specialized in them. Its a tanning salon now. 3d was a cool idea in 1955 2 steps forward 3 steps back
I have to disagree with the comments about the dissatisfaction of 3d in movies. Namely in Avatar, I thought that the 3d was spectacular, not in the sense that "Oh look! That giant hand is coming out of the screen!" but in the sense that it truly facilitated the action sequences and the entire feel of the movie. Personally, I hate when 3d is used purely as a gimmick and when it is just used because it is DIFFERENT. I loved the way that James Cameron used 3d in avatar, because it was so subtle that I forgot that I was even wearing the glasses and because it just immersed the audience in the movie. In video games, on the other hand, I definitely feel that there is no place for 3d YET. This was also seen when 3d was first used in movies. It was just so new, that there was no real reason to use it in cinema. However, I feel that because games and movies are so different and diverge in their mutually exclusive foundations, in terms of the interactive nature of video games, that it would be a long time til we can devise some sort of 3d, whether visual or not, that will further engage the player with the game in the way that Avatar does with 3d. This having been said, I would like to see some form of 3d facilitate the gameplay, or the story of a game, but I do not think that this vision will be realized for some time.
so glad to hear this from a distinguished person. (adam is distinguished to me) i saw avatar once in 3d and another time in standard definition, and honestly i think 3d adds almost nothing to the experience. its the same idea with the giant televisions. of course watching tv on a 72 inch with 1080p looks great, but it doesnt add to the experience; im not any more interested in animal shows just because i can see the fine details. 3d is even more shallow in my oppinion because its such an obvious gimmick; it will probably appeal to the masses, until they realize they're tierd of having to have glasses handy every time they watch tv. video games in 3d is just plain stupid, i dont know anyone who would get into this. i cant imagine how it wouldnt eventually be nauseating specially for quick games like left 4 dead or any other fps. definatly a trend, thats how i see it.
I Think 3D Should Be Added to gaming look at nvidia, games dont need to spend alot of development time to implement it, hell most games dont do any 3d stuff its all done in the video driver and those who want to play in 3D Let them if your not in the 3d camp then dont use it but just saying dont put the support in because you dont like it isnt good buisness cater to the people who are spending the big bux on the 3d tvs and such as long as it doent require a 3D TV I see no harm in 3D Gaming its all in the video renderer anyway the z buffer is already set in any 3d game to implement 3D might take 1 person 2-3 day to make sure certain effects dont mess with the 3D effect overall it adds more for the money 60 dollars is alot for a game by saying hey you can play it in 3d too makes me feel like im getting more for my $$ sorry for the run on sentences my teacher would cry if she saw the format of this comment
Mr. Sessler, I conquer this notion.( Thats fancy old time talk for i agree :)I loved Avatar the mvie and I hink movies should continue to be made in 3D.(not all of them) But games should definatly not go to 3-D. I myself wear glasses to see and I HATE having to wear them to see things pop at my face.
Totally agree. 3D isn't necessary to gameplay or immersion at all. Also, nice Dane Cook analogy. I think he has a few really good jokes, but it annoys me when he get away with jerking his body around the stage because people will laugh anyway and that's how people are with the "next gaming revolution" known as 3D.
I'd say its pretty clear... NO 3D GAMING!!! Which I completely agree. Just keep bringing the graphics up to the point that they look like REAL people. Now that would be cool.
Regarding the "shovelware with good graphics " : Those games were doomed to fail anyways - they would have been bad games with bad graphics otherwise. Don't blame shiny graphics. Blame the game companies for overlooking the low tech side of game making ( the writing). Or more specifically, blame the idiots in charge, not the artists, technicians and writers who are often victims of bad management decisions. Be glad that graphics we're often the main thrust of games because that set the foundation for games like Uncharted 23-d used to be a gimmicky fad, only now is it being taken seriously. It won't be too long before some company actually makes 3d seamless and enjoyable.
I totally agree with you adam the hole reason we play video games is to do something we cant do in real life if it becomes real then video games would no longer exist
3D Natal and Sony Dildo, oh sorry what is it Sphere?, games in 3D. Ha! It's so lifelike I kicked the TV again, better head to Best Buy... again!
In my opinion i believe the visuals for gaming are near their best. Ideas such as the Xbox Natal, or the PS3 virtual motion controller, are great ideas to enhance the gameplay and the ability to interact with the game which I think is the best way to go. Ideas such as 3-D seem to be meaningless as like you said just adds nothing but an awe factor to the visuals in which i think would get old in the first five minutes of using that.
There is no real reason for 3D games. The fad is out. The games that are out today surpass anything we could have expected 15 years ago. How much more life like can Madden really get??Developers put more time into the content of the games and not the gimmicks!
I don't think 3D is the new way a lot of gamers will play ther games, why wood it? who has that much Ca$h anyway and the will to put on some nerdy Glasses just to see MW2 in 3D? yea that sounds cool but the Huge Head pain and eye sore you will get later wont.
Bring a kid to a solid family film in 2d. Afterwards, ask that kid if he thought anything was missing. If the kid says it needed 3d, I will give you all my worldly posessions.
I do not want games to change at all. We are going to see some great titles in 2010. I groan whenever someone mentions Project Natal or 3d games. Its a shame that E3 will be consumed by Sony's motion whatever, and Project Natal. Nobody wants that garbage except soccer moms and small children. I hope all that fails epicly.
