Is that Nolan North I hear? Is he voicing every game!?!
I've had my eye on this one for a while. what i have seen was much cooler. the vertical cover combat and the hijacking flying saucers wasn't in the demo. i think they could have had a much better demo if they hadn't dumbed it down. it seems like they released the tutorial level of the game as the demo and that is always the worst level. I think regardless it will end up being a budget buy later for me. there are too many games that i can't wait to play this winter.
Xplay's show last night showed some more footage and talked about how they tweaked the flight a little.I think the demo has not been refined like the final product. I agree it was kinda disappointing but I think the final product will be much better.
I never expected this game to be any good when I first saw the gameplay I thought it looked stupid. The game reminds of The Iron Man game with similiar flight controls except this game is barely better than Iron Man. I thought the demo was ok but nothing worth remembering Ill probably buy it when its like 20 dollars
I'm going to pass on this one.Played the demo and was very disappointed. With the crazy amount of AAA tittles coming like gow3, ff13, heavy rain, and awesome games that are already out...uc2, ac2, darksiders, bayonetta, etc. there's no chance this game can compete.
i actually played this demo before i headed out to my college classes today and while i did love the idea of the game and the cover and shooting system it implemented i feel the demo didnt show enough of what i really wanted to see in the game imo i was expecting a sort of more uncharted with jet packs type of feel with the ability to also turn it into a flight sim at random time whenever you feel like it at least that's what i got from reading up on it in magazines and such. don't get me wrong i liked the demo it just wasn't what i was expecting maybe they just picked a bad part of the game to show off i mean it seemed like it was really early on and was probably just a normal tutorial level. still wish the demo was a little long it left me feeling underwhelmed but at the same time still wanting a little more oddly enough. i think the demo would of been much more well received if they added in the boss fight with the spider robot thing near the end of the demo.
the main thing that got me were the controls, in the air they just didn t feel right. For example instead of keeping both thumbs on the analog sticks i had to take one off to push the boost, or spoiler buttons. Also using the left analog stick for aiming didn't feel natural. On the ground i had to turn the sensitivity of the aiming all the way down, the gun also felt like it was way to inaccurate and underpowered. I m not a graphics whore so i have no grippe with that. I enjoyed it but would have enjoyed it more if it had flight controls more like ace combat.
Chance to be a good game, interestin concepts...but the flight controls may be problematic in tough situations.....idk, this is and iffy one.
Did Anyone else have that Deja vu feeling like they were watching a really bad sequel to The Rocketeer? The Stingray monster thingies reminded me of Pitch Black...What did the developers do, raid the dead sci-fi franchise bargain bin? I found the whole demon to be a bit...odd. The voice acting wasn't too terribly bad. I did like the line about swallowing a bug. But beyond that, it didn't really grab me. Oh, and what was up with the main character's buddy lookin' like a tribal reject?
I agree with heavenscloud001
You know, it looked cool but, I recently played the demo and it is pretty bland. The controls are a little weird, The arial combat was frustrating for me due to my lack of doing crazy flips in the air skills. However I did enjoy the flying animation and I think this is at least worth a rent.
I think it's funny that a game like this still thinks it should cost $60. With all the massive titles coming out this year, Dark Void looks like it should be something you get off Xbox Live Arcade. Capcom would be doing itself a favor if it priced the game at $39 to start. I bet it would make a whole lot more money in the long run because thrifty gamers would pick it up instead of dropping 60 on a AAA title. Personally, in today's economy I spotlight a couple of titles coming up down the road, and pinpoint the times in the year that I will be dropping the cash on a major title (I've got my eye on you Red Dead Redemption). I can't imagine anyone putting Dark Void on their calendar, especially after seeing this demo.
The problem with even attempting a game like Dark Void is that you're offering the long dreamed of promise of human flight. People feel very personally about such a prospect. That's why when games where the PC can fly aren't good then they're terrible. The player ends up resenting the Devs or the game itself for not coming through with an experience that liberates the player and delivers the freedom that dreams of flight seem to represent. One must be careful with such a gamble if they do not have the team or resources to back it up with a very special execution.
Great Idea..... terrible execution........
When I watched Demo footage of this game a year or two ago I was in awe. The guy was flying around, shooting ships out of the sky, then landing on the ground and taking it one on one with the baddies all in the same 30 seconds. Every bullet that was fired that hit an enemie was met with a swirl of sparks and flashes that really drove the point home that you were absolutely nailing them with your firepower. I preordered it the same week.I also canceled that same pre order yesterday. The demo was boring. The controls were decent enough, but shooting the enemies neither looked nor felt anything like it did when I watched that demo a while ago. In the demo I watched, your weapons felt super powerfull, in the actual demo, the felt like toys. The flying was pretty good, but bland. The graphics were a complete joke. Did you see what that big alien ship at the end looked like??? They forgot to add the textures (I refuse to believe they meant it to look like that)!!!Overall it was a massive letdown. Probably the biggest of the year for me. And don't shove that whole "It is just a demo and it does not represent the final product" phooey on me. I know what I like and what I dislike in the first 5 minutes of gameplay.
When I first saw this game at some convention on G4, I thought, "Hmmm. This looks pretty innovative and new." I didn't have high expectations, but when I played the demo, it didn't even reach those. The flying was okay, but the dude kind of looks like a cartoon. What really puzzled me though was what were the devs thinking when they decided that random aliens with no armor what-so-ever could take about a gazillion shots with a frikin' shotgun, or whatever that shotgun looking gun is. As many have said, the cover system is definately not up to snuff and sometimes gets in the way. The controls were screwy also, for example: you have to push X(A) twice to hover, that's normal, but what gets me is the fact you have to push triangle to fly. Why not save us trouble by making it X again or triangle twice, once to hover, a second to fly, and X to jump. Then once your up in the air, you have to float down to a platform. Why can't they just make circle drop? I guess they wanted to make it challenging, you know, by making you get killed by those goons when your just hanging there like mistletoe on a door frame. I didn't even finish the demo. I got nutin' else folks! Pitiful!!!!!@Lawrence123Hey, I agree about Uncharted and all, but there's no bashing the GOTY. It doesn't really matter what you compare it to though, the graphics are terribly close to eating a bag.
I think the game is okay i also agree with CMcCon342 and chcolatejeebus you guys need to CHILL!!
I'm excited to see what's going to happen next.
The demo was horrible. I didn't even finish the last enemy segment and deleted it as soon as I finished. There are much better PS 1 and XBOX games of similar genre.True, Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare, and other similar games of expensive production, refinement, and presentation have raised the bar. However, the controls were terribly misaligned and the overall interface felt awkward and restrictive like an old Atari 2600 game.Seriously, will the total package be worth the $60 dollar tag?...No.Poor attempt...very poor attempt at trying to get our gaming dollars.Make it DLC on XBL...800 points...no more.
