In the next 10 years, video games will only become bigger. I think they will diversify, and more and more unique sub-genres will be created. I think it will get to a point that the industry will be big enough that smaller niche audiences will be catered to more and more, sort of like how the music industry is now. For example, I listen to metal, so I go on metal-related websites. I don't go on websites that will tell me about music in general, because that doesn't interest me. 10 years from now, I can definitely see video games in a similar position. And that, of course, is a good thing.

I was really excited about this last decade.
Super Mario Galaxy
God of War
Legend of Zelda Windwaker
Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal
Uncharted 2 Among Theives
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Halo Combat Evolved
Jak II
Sly 3 Honor Among Theives
Little Big Planet
Yeah, not all my top ten favorites were all that origional. They were just plain fun the first time I put them in. And that's what it comes down to.

I think the last 10 years have shown that games are/can be more then just toys and can tell a story that can rival anything Hollywood does. I look back at games like Call of Duty, Gears of War, and Mass Effect and Halo and I see that games are coming into the mainstream more than ever.

It was an interesting decade. I started it in my mid teens and ended it in my mid 20s. There are many good things to say about the decade but I have one thing that personally stands out for me.
That is the Source engine. I know now it isn't cutting edge now but when I first saw it I was in awe. That is really what started my obsession with physics in games.
On another note, I personally hope motion control doesn't take hold until it is perfected. Natal and Sony's controller look promising but I just can't yet picture myself gaming as effeciently with motion controls as I can with a standard controller. Oh well, here's to another great decade in gaming.

Something else he didn't touch on was PC gaming. The rise of World of Warcraft and MMOs along with Blizzard. EA taking over Command and Conquer and the Total War games which are some of the greatest strategy experiences I have ever had which is probably the future of RTS campaigns ex: Starcraft 2 and the new way you choose missions. A last event in PC gaming, the collapse of the Age of Empire series. At least when you described the shooters, you put in PC as one of the platforms instead of forgetting like almost everyone has forgotten PC games.

so will this soap box in ten years be brought to us by sesslervision online?
CurtDogg85
Sure is completely ignoring anything Nintendo has done the past decade around here...
Apparently the only games/advancements that really matter are shooters! Truly those are the games that are worth a damn.

B-but I don't know what nomenclature is! (For those like me: a set or system of names or terms, as those used in a particular science or art, by an individual or community, etc.)
I have to agree, "Gaming" will probably become a split term. Also, with workable 3D now in theaters and experiences like Avatar, I'm guessing we'll be getting 3D in no time. The next console cycle? ...if they (Microsoft, Sony) wait 'till 2014, maybe, but I can't imagine there would be enough people nabbing 3D TVs before then.
Good stuff.

Twas a fun decade. like you said hopefully the next decade is even more fun. but i dont believe we will go controllerless this decade, in fact i will be making a big purchase for the next GranTurismo, a 900 degree gearbox racing wheel. thats a pretty big controller...
