Sony Bravia W-Series 52" LCD HDTV Review

Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn test out Sony's latest HD televisions with the 52" Bravia W-Series that's only 3.4" thin with a Bravia Engine 3 and 120 hertz refresh rate. See if $1500 is a good deal for this new LCD TV.

What You Need to Know

  • The TV is 3.5” thick
  • The component and composite inputs are on the back, while the majority of the HDMIs are on the side, so if you want to wall-mount it, you'll need to use those
  • The frame is a subtle gray-black and easily blends in to any room
  • As far as downloadable internet content goes, there's Netflix, Amazon Video, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated and Wired, as well as a bunch of video podcasts
  • There's also streaming audio like Slacker and NPR
  • The media bar interface is really easy to use, but menus take a really long time to load
  • You can also install widgets from Twitter and Yahoo
  • Since it's mostly web content, it doesn't look amazing, but there's a ton of it
  • As for the look, blacks are relatively deep because of its 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and the matte screen helps to not reflect windows or lights in the room
  • Colors were bright and accurate, though we did see a little more noise than we'd like
  • The 120 hertz refresh rate is a worthwhile feature, because it actually smoothes motion without making the picture look unrealistic and wobbly

  • $1,500

your fake audience reactions from your 2 camera men and director are extremely aggravating.
