Insignia 42" 1080P 120HZ LCD HDTV Review

With stereo speakers and 120HZ refresh rate, Best Buy's Insignia 42" LCD TV could be the best Black Friday deal yet at $699. Find out from Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn if this LCD is worth the wait in line. Hope you've got some extra duckets.

What You Need to Know

  • The TV measures about 5.5” deep; it's not too thick, but it's not that sleek either
  • The two speakers are hidden along the bottom of the screen, which helps streamline the look, but it's still a little boxy
  • It does come with 4 HDMI inputs and is wall mountable with 2 HDMIs on the side as well as PC, S-Video and Composite inputs
  • The 120 hertz, when cranked all the way up, looked horrible; we got a weird artifact effect that made the playback look wobbly, but as we turned the refresh rate down, it got better
  • On top of that, the only other feature that this particular Insignia has is a built in HDTV tuner, which comes standard in most TVs now
  • Overall, the features were average
  • The 20,000:1 contrast ratio makes colors crisp and vivid
  • Grain was a tiny bit apparent in darker scenes, but otherwise it looks better than we've seen on a lot of cheap TVs
  • The audio is okay; the two 12 watt speakers can get pretty loud

  • $700
  • You can get it online now, so you don’t have to wait in line on Black Friday
