Sony DAV-HDX589W Bravia Home Theater System Review

Don't ruin the holidays with annoying surround sound wires. Kevin Pereira and Chris Hardwick review the 1000 watt Sony DAV-HDX589W Bravia Home Theater System with its S-Air wireless surround speakers and 5-disc DVD changer available for only $279 on Black Friday

What You Need To Know

  • This is a pretty standard sized home theater system.
  • Each floor stander is about 3.5' high and the center channel is only 10" across.
  • The wireless rear speaker is about 4" thick.
  • The subwoofer is just over a foot tall.
  • Size-wise, this system should fit well anywhere.
  • The wireless speaker set up is weird: you have to plug in the S-Air receiver, then connect wires to your speakers. These speaker wires are shorter but it means that the system isn't completely wireless.
  • It also has enough inputs and features to make it worth standing in line for, like a digital optical, co-ax & composite inputs but only an HDMI output.
  • The iPod dock works easily enough; you just plug it into the digital media port and you're ready to go.
  • The 5-disc changer upscales to 1080p and looks pretty good.
  • It also features an auto calibration mic to set up your speakers in the best possible way.
  • This system sounds just as good as the SS360 system.
  • It gets really loud and is able to sound better as the levels increase.
  • The bass is extremely thick, though it could be too thick at times and drown out the mids.
  • The wireless surround speakers also sound great without any hiss or loss of signal.

  • $279.00

  • This is a buy on Black Friday and and worth the wait in line.
