to me the game had a great storyline...and that scene as a very important part to it... especially at the end of it...i was like i did all that for nothing...the game felt very invigorating...stirring up all kinds ofemotions...when i was playing the level where they first invade the states...i was like in shock...the images of running down the streets, seeing the parachutes, and the fires....it all felt different...i wonder if people from other parts of the world feel the same, when they play war games and the game resembles the place they live in....this game sets itself apart...im hoping for dlc they make a map that looks like that level...estates is alright but the street really adds sumtin....

So, Adam, do you have an Aesthetic view of art? That is, "Art for art's sake?" Oscar Wilde and the Aesthetes argued that good art does not have a moral or even utilitarian function. I just want to understand if you believe games as an art should have a greater message or if they should just serve as beautiful creations. Of course, this doesn't have to have an either/or answer.

The game is rated M for Mature for a reason. You know there is going to be some graphic stuff. I really do dislike the fact they can even give a choice to censor it out because that makes you lose the immersion you'd get out of the single player. You also lose the original design that IW was going for and your missing a critical part of the game. I am obviously not a fan of censorship in many things and games included, the M should say enough.

I understand that feeling Matt Kiel is talking about when he remarks how the airport shooting scene was "not offensive but unpleasant." For some reason, even though its just a video game, certain violent scenes in games make me feel uncomfortable to the point that I feel like I'm doing something immoral. I think to myself that it's kind of sad that I'm senselessly killing people for "fun" especially when "its just a video game."It's weird, because I only get this guilty feeling when I play violent games that promote senseless killing, like GTA IV for example. It just feels wrong and despicable that gaming has to go to such violent standards to be considered fun. There's better ways of having fun with video games, but killing and running over people in a virtual city is just not for me.

It's a shame that Fox News will use a controversal scene of a video game, as a means to spread their pre conceived conservative agenda. The first time I seen the Modern Warfare 2's "Airport scene", I knew this would happen. I expect the same kind of agenda-driven outrage, if Quantic Dream's "Heavy Rain" includes it's nudity and sex scenes. Whatever happened to the media allowing adults to form their own opinions, about a whole range of topics.

he right movies,books,T.V.,etc have very shocking scenes and if video games want to evolve they need to push the bar farther.this is just the start there might be more in video games to come so don't go terrorist psychopath nutjob on it.

    Adam,

I have to say that if I could choose anybody to speak as the voice of the gaming community, and to defend gaming as an art style, it would be you. That being said, I would never choose to subject you or anyone to the "journalistic integrity" that is Fox news. It seems almost trivial as with all Fox's interviews, the hosts will present the argument that they and their viewers deem correct, and will play off any points made by the guests as misconceptions. I really don't think any minds will be swayed who regularly watch Fox. However, something must be said in the defense of gaming, it can not and should not be seen as a media that doesn't have the capability to tackle mature themes and subject matter as an art form. And like I said, if anybody could do it. Good luck to you sir, and thanks for all you do for me and for the gaming community.

    Vinny

PS. And don't worry, I have a feeling Fox is saving the Thanksgiving holiday to discuss the tragedy of how any 8 year old can pick up a controller, play Dragon Age, and become a gay dwarf. Sweeps!

I think that scene got me more interested in this game due to the fact that it's bringing more emotion into the game. I feel terrified at myself when I, honestly, didn't really care about the Ft. Hood massacre. But when you're playing through something like that, you get a sense of respect, and deeper emotion for people who survived through something as horrific and scarring. And the fact that you are the one causing it, pits you against something you never really feel in most other games. People don't have faith in this market of media but I hope when people look at this they see the art and the provocation of something that shakes up the "every-other" FPS in a way that actually makes them think.

Just going to point out that although South Park is a comedy show it actually gives a pretty good social commentary on current events.

    Adam,

One suggestion, for your own protection and sanity, I would not recommend going on to FOX and Friends because what ever you say the will work it into some sort of "video games are bad" view point. Even though the rest of the game is great they will paint it in whatever morally evil subtext they want to. Any other news outlet is relatively fine but FOX news is not news, it is far right-wing editorials. Just remember where the Mass Effect sex scandal began.

    Thanks,

For the people who think it is bad or wrong to have this mission in the game, I have an idea for you.....DON'T PLAY THE GAME. I wish you the best of luck Adam, we all know that those news people are to gang up on you and make you look as bad and dumb as possible. I have faith in you buddy

Listen guys you have to understand that this is just a small stepping stone in the future of video games. it progresses the realism that we all want to see in future video games. I;m not saying that people should make video games that allow you to rape anyone or anything like that but it's just good progressing. and we all have said that we would love to see more realism in video games and now it is starting to be delivered and right now there will be fingers pointed but give it time and it will be accepted. We gamers are not remedial we are the growing strength of this world. Were not going to take these ideas and blow up an airport.

Good job Mr.Sessler, i agree with your view. Yes it was something put in there to express and move the story. It showed the severity of the situation and gave it that extra umph to push the story along. People should definitely realize that this is a game and nothing more. Its not a simulation, if this was pure script and people read it as if it was a book they would have no problem with it. The same should go for video games. They are both mediums in which they tell a story to whatever resources they have. Books have words and descriptions while games have visuals and the ability to interact with the environment.

I don't know why people are freaking out over this mission, I actually found it fun to do , it reminded me of GTA IV. And really people it is a freaking game, get over yourselves. Everyone always gets up in arms when there is something remotely bad in a game. It is a video game, it is one scene, GET OVER YOURSELVES!!!
