ok we cant all cant just stand back and be hypocritical about this. you cant deny that unless your actualy gay you have said an offensive word towards homosexual people. i for one have. Do i regret it, yes. Am i going to do my best from doing it again, definetaly. will i say it again? to be perfectly honest probably yes. when u get down to it in the society we live in today words like that are constantly used as synonyms for stupid. now im only 14 and i realize this now if older people who influence the younger generation would maybe realize the impact they have the sooner we can finaly rid oursleves of these bigots. :if u want to confront me about this my gamertags reaper 10111

Sessler you should run for Furer.

Americans have become pathetic. They act like they have never been made fun of by a sibling or something. I guess our ignorance of our free heritage will only result in wackos taking over the government. Oh wait...we had George Dubya...

The founding fathers would hang their heads in disgrace at the agendas people like you promote. If one person losses his right to say what the F he wants we do too.

On par with the 'N' word? are you kidding? Adam, you've obviously got a personal slant on this one. You've lost me when saying that's even close. Its not even in the same universe. Get a grip. I cant believe you said it took 'some sheen' off the game release. I guarantee this will have ZERO effect on the game sales, popularity, and nominee(if not already) for game of the year. Plus the other day, ripping on a random idiot online 'that sounded like he was 10', you need a vacation.

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE 'N' WORD. SHAME on you sesler.

I think you people need to grow thicker skins. Did your mothers never tell you about sticks and stones? Come on, it may have been in bad taste, but, cowboy up!

You know it's funny, as I sat here and listened to Sess and read the forum's as I watched the new south park episode that went into this very topic. I find it amazing that people can take a word that means one thing and twist it to have a new meaning. At this rate the word "can" will be vulgar and offensive to some people. As a society we do need to get a grip and lighten up some times. But at the same time it isn't excusable.

As someone else said, 90% of the profanity on XBL and PSN comes from 8-14year old children that if their parents had a brain shouldn't be playing these games in the first place.

When it comes down to it we all have free speech because we're all created equal and you have a right to not listen to people who say things you do not like. You can't be thought police of other people, that's called tyranny. This must be more of an issue on Consoles because I hardly hear anyone swear or use any derogatory words on PC when playing TF2 or L4D on Steam.

For those in positions of power (I can not even imagine the number of impressionable youth CoD4 has influenced to join the military) like IW, gags like the grenade spamming one are unforgivable. Just because the constitution insures the right to free speech does not necessarily mean people (like those, once again, with whom millions of people come into "contact", like IW with CoD) should exercise it. The word used offends many people and serves to perpetuate homophobia.

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. People usually use these words before they maim or kill someone so "lighten up" doesn't exactly apply. Hate speech is hate speech period. Its primary function is to dehumanize its target and justify violence. That goes for any racial slur or epithet aimed at sexuality. That's why black people get mad at the N Word, because it may vey well invoke the image of dogs and fire hoses at best or lynchings at worst; that is what the N word usually preceeded. I'm also pretty sure that the F word was used when those two dorks murdered that college kid because he was homosexual. You can take these words lightly if you wish, but understand that for good reason some people in the target group for that word may not. These words are not comfort food used in front of a campfire for hugs and laughs. These words are the most dangerously sharp weapons held within the English lexicon. I know people like to hide in the shadow of ingnorance when it comes to these words than look into the light of history but just remember...PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED by those who have used these words, the anger of the needlessly lost or the indignance of the their descendants can never be rectified. Think about that the next time you ask someone to lighten up or use a term that someone may find offensive.

I wish we lived in a world where none of these words mattered but since they matter to some people, they matter period. Part of civility is respecting the comfort of others and these words do not help.

I love Xbox Live and meeting people at the business end of a sniper rifle on the virtual battlefeild is a great meeting place. It is off-putting to hear people employ those terms regardless of motive. I'm not saying that people should say the word but realize what image you cast on yourself as you use it.

Thank you Adam! I cant even begin to tell you how many times im cussed out by a 12 year old over xbox Live or PSN screaming offensive slurs I'm sure they don't even know the meaning of. Its sickening to think this is how the future generation is being taught that it this kind of thing is ok. I'm sure Infinity Ward didn't realize the controversy their little PSA would generate b/c they wouldn't have posted it otherwise. But it still is offensive. I'm still going to get it however and play the crap out of it, dont get me wrong but i just might play online in a private party with respectable people.

Ok, maybe with a little editing, I can FINALLY say what I intend to say.

Before I go on a rant about this video, I'm going to mention the fact that I'm gay. I'd say that that proclamation will really help put things into perspective because I'm actually applying REASON to what's going on and not whining because of being hurt in my posterior.

Now, I for one raged at this video. I raged so hard, that it's the reason I registered here just now. I expected this "Calling Infinity Ward Out" to be about all of the stupid shenanigans Activision and IW pulled with butchering MW2 and alienating fans out of sheer laziness because they think they can guarantee profit.

No, instead, I come to Sess whining about such a trite issue. Look at how much I care. It's nice that you care about equality, but seriously, LIGHTEN UP!

This kind of excessively-high sensitivity really reinforces the stereotype that our feelings are shattered like glass when hit with a brick.

People REALLY need to grow up, realize it's just a word, and know how to take a joke! I mean it was easy for me to do. A word is a word, and you can put WHATEVER connotation you want on it, but this level of whine about something so subjective is totally unnecessary. MAN UP! DEAL WITH IT! I'd say this little fiasco about this bit of viral marketing is just about as bad as the controversy made over killing Africans in Resident Evil 5, EVEN THOUGH THE GAME WAS SET IN AFRICA. It's really saddening that people actually whine about something like this, when fellow gays call each other that all the time. One thing I am NOT going to put up with is condoning double standards because, really, there is NO point.

What we REALLY need to do is take a look at the REAL issue with Infinity Ward, which is deciding that getting rid of everything that made people want to buy the PC version such as the server system, the higher capacity of players, the allowance of mods, and the console commands is a totally awesome idea that nobody will react negatively to. It's as if they think that totally abandoning their PC userbase is somehow going to get them customers.

But wait, there's more! They've even decided to play around with their console fanbase a bit at the same time, just for kicks!

I hope you MW2 players will enjoy your "no party chat allowed", and your repackaged MW1 with a couple of new trinkets and single-player campaign that's been halved in length. I'm going to be playing a game that a developer actually makes an effort into making their game worth the $60 I put into it and not be something that I'd download off of the Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 points or so.

I seriously thought I'd see a video here where Sessler had something to say that I'd respect like the truly cool guy that he is, but no, not today good sir. You should have been reasonable instead of desperately trying to be some kind of white knight.

Those were my two cents. Thank you and good day, G4 community!

I'm gay, and I'm angry at the fact that even people such as Sessler are whining over something so trite and totally ignoring the REAL issue with Modern Warfare 2.

I'd go into more detail, but apparently actually applying reason to what's going on is considered profanity by this website's coding.

yeah infinity ward kinda shot them selfs with this so called *ahem* "PSA". While "spamming in grenades" can be annoying im surprised Infinity Ward did something this dumb. It is really upsetting to see a professional company using language used by pissed 9 year old's xbox live users.

so, what...you're just goig to not talk about the fact that they are removing dedicated servers, making it 9v9 and removing the ability to mod servers and gameplay.

infinity ward has done much worse than offend some gay people.

you guys are way too sensitive. i'm glad that people are reposting the video all over youtube. then again, it may not have been a wise choice for infinity ward. though i doubt anyone would not buy it for that. I found it funny. and Fight Against Grenade Spam has multiple meanings now similar to chainsaw noob.

Why is this such a big deal? a f*g in Britain is a colloquialism for cigarette as well as a junior boy who acts as a servant to a senior boy at a British independent school. Also let's put this in context many homosexuals use this word towards other homosexuals, is there some hypocrisy here.

Adam. sometimes you make me sad. Here's the deal. People have opinions. they use language to express those opinions. sometimes this language is offense. This is where we put on our big boy panties and deal with it. Stop trying to make IW responsible for the usage of language. If they feel that way (or the makers of the video do) then just write them off and move on. I'm sorry you feel for whatever reason that language should be censored, but that's your issue. Gay folks might get offended, but most of the gay folks I know call themselves that ALL the time. attempting to create an environment where Political correctness and Censored Speech becomes the norm is unenlightened to say the least. People will always have bad language. always. Acceptance of this fact will keep your sanity in one piece.

    Stop being overly sensitive. please.

    @Adam Sessler
I will admit, I use the term gay quite loosely when im gaming. Often times if I die by some means in which I feel I shouldnt have I will say, "Oh, well thats gay". Or if someone is acting stupidly on my team, and team killing everybody, I will say something like, "Thats gay dude". I play on PSN mostly, and I rarely hear anything worse than the usual swear words. Occasionally I will be called the "N" word by a african american, but I am told that when an african american uses the n word, it like me saying man or dude, but when I say the N word (which I dont) its considered slanderous and offensive.

Its great and all you are speaking out over this issue, but it wont change anything. Its a part of being adolescent. Online gaming gives kids a freedom they dont have among their peers, when at friends houses or at school. Most times, I bet the kid is in his/her room with the door shut, probably on a completely different floor, and feels it empowers them, and makes them feel older than 12 years old. That is why I think it occurs. But needless to say I think your efforts are in vain. Soapboxes like this one are watched by gamers who care, or atleast somewhat. The thing is , kids dont care, not in the slightest.

As I said, I use the term gay quite loosely, not the one you are mentioning in the soapbox. I do not use it to offend, or empower myself. It is simply a word meaning sucks, or lame. Words have multiple meanings based on the context it is used in. For instance using the term cool, being both one of status and one of temperature. Gay in the instance I use is not a double standard like the n word. I am not speaking down or attempting to discriminate against anyone in any way. I apologize if me using gay offends you (not implying you are). It is just, I cant really explain it.

You asked in a soapbox some time ago, why people use such terms as the ones you spoke about in your soapbox, and me using the term gay. I have no other excuse for my saying gay than it being nothing more than a fad in my current lingo. I used to use the term "Tight" to imply somethings awesomeness, but now I say "epic" or just "cool". I hope me using the term gay does not influence your opinion of me.

P.S. I tried to be as gentle and non-offensive with this post as I could. Once again, I am sorry if any of it offends you, I am simply trying to answer a question you asked some time ago.
