I agree with you Adam and respect how you truly feel about live giving I've had the same problem myself on a few occasions and you may even get a large amounts of gamers to change but there's always for some to ruin it for others.

MS knows this and don't even take care of this problem. They just eject them for small periods of time or kick them out but that doesn't stop them from buying another system and repeating the process all over again.

As I haven't mentioned this is one the reasons I don't play live as much as I used to. You are right about it it has to have some stopping point or else online gaming in general's going have serious problems.I'm not gay but I know really good and pretty cool people that are so it can be an issue for alot of people. Game companies really need to check if it can have bad ramifications before sending things like this out into the public I won't lie I laughed at how the character got blown to pieces but at the end the laughter stopped because you can tell it may cause some discomfort.

This is my piece in this feel free to respond.

Wow, I am really impressed here. This is by far one of the most intelligent and meaningful discussions I have seen in a long time, and shame on those who don't recognize this. I think that this is a very valid point, that some of the ridiculous actions that take place on line, both verbal and otherwise, are in fact at times hurtful if not in the very least stupid. I think that this is a moment that people need to realize that those user names that you see on the screen during the match aren't AI systems and computers, but REAL human beings, with REAL thoughts, opinions, etc who are there to do the same thing you are; to play and have a good time. The fact that a gaming company had their own hand at this, even accidentally, is by no means acceptable, but I think that we also have to realize that, just as this example shows, it isn't below anyone, and this kind of behavior can and DOES happen. It's important to remember that we are capable of bringing people down, and it isn't right to use that against anyone. Not because of race, sexual preference, or otherwise. Much Kudos, Adam, you couldn't be more right.

I haven't seen the video just yet, but one thing I do know when it comes to offensive language, it gets to the point of being both annoying and actually offensive.

On the most part, it's not really all that bad when it comes to a few words being said here and there on the FPS games. I haven't had as much of a bad experience on the matches I've played, but here and there, I have run into the random idiot who starts spouting offensive stuff. While it did make me uncomfortable, I just take the quick measure to find the dummy's gametag on 360, mute them and report them so they're on notice to watch themselves in the near future.

All in all, when it comes to people using language, it just shows how the ones who use the offensive language, don't really have a good grasp of the "Queen's English". ;p Joking aside, just gotta remember that we're representing ourselves online which in turn can have a cause and effect with others. Who knows if the one person you call a "n" online, happens to be your boss playing the same game.

I usually find myself agreeing with Adam in most of his "Soapbox" videos, but not with his views on this one.

I can honestly say, I didn't even notice the acronym until it was pointed out by all these people that are "outraged" by it. Seems to me like people who are offended by this are getting mad at the wrong people. I am against anyone using homophobic slurs towards people who have a that sexual orientation, and we should be angry with insensitive people who use name calling towards those that are different. In saying that, I believe that there is nothing about this commercial that is even remotely homophobic. Inifinity Ward didn't call anyone by that name, there weren't any innuendos or references to homosexuals, so to me, this isn't even a free speech issue, as some others posting here are trying to make this out to be.

The acronym may or may not have been intentional, but the fact remains that nothing about the video was homophobic, not to mention that the letters were not even highlighted in any way (as I said before, I didn't even notice it until it was pointed out by those offended by it).

On the bigger issue that Sessler brings up about homosexuals have to keep their sexual preference a "secret" ... yeah, when it comes to the gaming community, honestly - people should ALWAYS keep their sexual preference a secret, no matter what your sexual preference is. There should never be an appropriate time on Xbox Live for people to talk about their sexual preference, so to me, that doesn't fly Adam.

I commend Infinity Ward for doing the right thing, and taking the ad away because of the offended people, but it is truly a sad state of our society that people can ALWAYS find something to be offended about, by simpling assembling letters together that weren't together in the first place.

Absolutely amazing. Really amazes me that we're so concerned about this word yet Sessler is dropping curse words left and right. What about the people that offends. Apparently it's ok because everyone else is using such foul language and if their ok with it then it must be ok. Just because you know it's going to bleeped out does not make it right. As stated, Sessler, with all the words at our finger tips maybe you should choose to use others. Your concerned about the use of F word...well, I'm concerned with the use of all the other words you used...their are kids watching this show. They don't need any help from you with their language. And as far as G4tv...just because you make the statement that Adams opinion doesn't necessarily reflect G4's opionion you are still giving approval of his actions by airing it. This really is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Truly pathetic.

Maybe before making this episode Adam should realize that Racism is against a persons appearance or background that they cant change. Homosexuality is a choice of lifestyle. People are not born gay. There is no gay gene that determines that. Comparing this to racism is very far off base. IW should have kept the video up. Cause all this attention to something that isnt even pointed out in the video, is ridiculous. Adam is wrong on this one. I know he has to try to make everyone happy, but hes leaving out the real facts.

INFINITY WARD ......... knows precisely what they are up to !!! ( shame on them )

The video they published was very clever also NO MISTAKE and certainly no compliment ........to the
company itself or gay people who spend a lot of money on their products .

This is not the first time Infinity Ward has taken a stab at innocent people ......... in the last game when you begin with Boot Camp training You are asked to slash a watermelon with a knife ...... when successful, the Captain ( Sergeant ? ) tells the player

    >>>>> Your.... Fruit killing .......skills are fantastic <<<<<<<&l t;<<<<<

I am pleased to hear someone with clout call them on this hate mongering .
As Adam says it takes the shine off a very good experience.

pleased to see someone taking them to task for very bad behavior .

While I agree with everything Adam said in this video. I think that words used in that manner to point out and insult sections of our society that might be different from the "norm" is very wrong and would never condone such actions. However, it did raise an interesting question in my mind.

Isn't this commercial ultimately what we are going for in our society?

Before you get out the torches a flame throwers let me explain. IW made a joke, in an attempt to be comedic. The video itself made no reference to homosexuality in anyway (that I was aware of at least) until that final scene with the acronym. It's obvious it wasn't a shot directed at gay people in anyway (doesn't make it right, just stating the obvious). So other than the word at the end, the video was fairly straight forward. It was the word that changed it. Again, I'm not defending them. What they did was wrong, stupid, and not very well thought out.

I think as we progress as a society and move on past this stupid prejudice and hate that that particular word will cease to be as offensive as it is today. I'm not saying it will ever NOT be offensive. But we've seen similar things with the "N" word. And I'm not saying that word isn't offensive. But compared to even 20 years ago, it is considered far less offensive now than it was then. I think it's obvious by how prevalent the word is used. It's still considered bad manners and crass, but regardless, I think society (for the most part) has moved past the word being extremely offensive and is now to the point where if it's used outside the context of being comedic, it just makes the person look stupid.

I think what I'm trying to say is, that hopefully our goal as a society is to get to the point where words like that, when used will either elicit pity for a person using it in a derogatory way or laughter when used in humorous way.

Will we ever get there? I'm not sure. I for one hope so. I hope that we can move past it to the point where these words will cease to be offensive and end up becoming a word that references a time where we once were so ignorant as a society that we segregated these people. And hopefully once we get past it we can laugh at our stupidity and move on.

    It's just a word.

If you add extra weight to it, and take offense, then it becomes a hurtful word. The people that use these types of words to get under your skin will ALWAYS exist. It becomes a matter of not letting the words get to you.

If everyone in existence magically stopped caring about that word tomorrow, and I mean legitimately not caring what-so-ever, then the word would phase out of existence very quickly. By getting your feathers ruffled, it only makes them want to use it more.

Yes, you may have a point that IW's use of the word adds fuel to its fire on the xbox live community, but you're doing the EXACT same thing. Again, you can't change how these ignorant instigators act on xbox live, but you can change how you act. Ranting about these things only gives these people more ammunition.

Your only reasonable course of action is ignoring it.

This is truthfully one of the best Soapbox episodes I've seen to date. I think it is just really sad that people on Xbox live and society in general toss around hateful and racist slurs like it's natural language. Granted, the 1st ammendment gives us the freedom to act how we want and say what we want. But people should think of others before saying something over an open chat room. Because if you say you're an open minded person, but get pissed off because someone just killed you, and go spouting off hateful and racist slurs at that someone over Xbox live, PSN, or Wii online then that's a real contradictory of yourself. Plus, your actions (anyone 17+) do influence on how what younger genereations preceive as right or wrong. Would you really want a child describing someone as _blank, _blaank? Or pick on a kid just because he's an ethnicity that's differnet from theirs, or speak a different language? I sure as hell wouldn't. I'll admit, when I did watch the video, I didn't find anything wrong with it, I thought it was funny. But I did see on where people might be offended with it (even though I'll admit, I had to watch it twice to see it).
Oh yea, where I got those sentiments (the _blanks)? I get those from my younger brother (14 yrs. old) and his friends. Who toss around slurs like that in conversation, and some on Xbox live like it's nobody's business. It's jsut kinda astonishing to describe people that they hang out with, people they know, or people they just run in to in such a way (not to get preachy).
