Posted: October 21, 2009
Adam uses Borderlands as an example of how "grinding" can be as satisfying experience if the game's mechanics are solid.

Borderlands in my opinion is a classic.

This is why bad weather is actually good. A sense of helplessness (if that is what he was describing), in the healthy, necessarily leads to reflection. Great soapbox.
Unless of course the weather is actually comfortable (generally speaking) in L.A. right now. That would ruin my statement.

I love the way adam talk and explains things he doesnt dumb down language talks about everything like he's having a discussion with us not just telling us the mundane things no one wants to hear.

Interesting how I love grinding in Borderlands, yet it just gets on my nerves so much in games like WoW. Maybe it's because you're more in the middle of the action with the FPS gameplay.

exactly!!!! Very well put! This is definetly why both Too Human and Borderlands are great game's. They make us feel happy and rewarded! Loot Rules!!!!!

I agree with you with everything EXCEPT about mmo grinding. This isn't just wOw, it's every MMO. The fact that, in a MMO, you don't get awesome random loot EVERY time you kill something. I think that's what makes games like Borderlands, Diablo 2 and Too Human quite fun. You can kill one small badger and randomly have a great gun for a level and then kick open pots to find a long staff in there. I think it's about the frequent randomness of items that you feel like your making progress/change constantly to your character, that makes it feel worthwhile. Not playing a game for an hour or so and not seeing a single change to your character.
And also..... YES watch Feedback, it's a very very entertaining/interesting great show. It's like you and your friends just kicking back and talking about video games. Except there is a camera.

i agree in that good gameplay doesnt always have to be engaging, intense frag fests and having played many games of the type, it is relaxing and sometimes more satisfying to reach those casual goals in videogames, especially MMOs. be it getting small achievements or that one little mission you never got around to it can be just as fun. Good Soapbox as always
Note: Please watch the feedback or the furry hamster will eat your other kidney.that is if Adam doesn't get to it first

I totally get that feeling some days. It's nice to come home and take out daily frustrations on mobs of faceless video game enemies. Sometimes grinding can be boring but sometimes it's the greatest feeling in the world.
