I loved the story and that's why I get halo games of any caliber. To learn more about the halo world that these people have created. hell even halo wars had a good little story to it. Just the fact that there's ANOTHER trilogy coming our way get's me hyped up for another great story.

The whole backlash against this game that can be found on countless videogame-dedicated sites, despite being for the most part not unlike how I imagine pre-language caveman arguments, does raise questions regarding the current price of video games and the amount of content that money buys. I believe Adam mentioned in an older soapbox that, after GTA IV, games will have to reach higher to meet the content-related standards of the gamer. ODST, without ignoring the fact that it is a fun and addicting game of Halo caliber, does not suggest that this will be necessarily true. Sixty dollars does seem like too much for a game for which a major selling point is, essentially, a re-wrapped collection of Halo 3 maps. While the fact that firefight is fun and the campaign engrossing should warrant the playing of the game, there simply isn't enough for the cash-challenged to warrant the purchase of it. If ODST sells really well, the message that money can be made by, though this is a shallow condensation of what is a very fun (no matter how long that enjoyment will last) game, releasing an expansion packaged with extra bubble wrap (albeit, fun bubble wrap). Obviously this has been done many times, of which the majority have been much less refined than ODST, but I fear for Adam's once optimistic vision of gaming's future.

Seeing as I don't care about the second disk, I am more curious of how this game would have been scored at $60 for only the first disk.

The game was good. If you don't like it then get over it. It was a stepping stone for Reach and people will probably not like that either because you can't please everyone.

Halo games are good. What more can you ask for?

I just purchased the first game, and right off the bat I figured out why these titles are so popular. They have a tradition of excellence and appeal to a wide audience.

Why do I choose to purchase and play Halo? Becasue they are games worthy of my time, effort, and cash. I'll admit that a good part of the reason I had a desire to play the games are because all my friends rave about them. Although, when I play them, I like them for what they are. Good games.

    That's all that matters.

Great soapbox. If the reality of more Adam Sesslers existing weren't so frightening it would not be in bad faith that I state there should be more Adam Sesslers!

Haven't had this much fun since Star Wars Republic Commando. Yes, that's right; this ain't your Daddy's Halo. You actually have to work a little for your kills, in this one. No , you don't get to bound around like armored idiots, taking ridiculous amounts of damage, with Cortana's sexy voice, crooning in your ears. You have to go out and hump the boonies, looking for clues and squad-mates and answers. You're unmodified one hundred percent normal human-but you're also the best of the best, and that's your edge. No, it's not a perfect game, I've never played one of those. I have paid sixty bucks for several games this year, and this is one of the few I don't regret. I f you're looking for a decent shooter, set in the Halo universe, then this is your game. If you're looking for a perfect ten, you'll have to wait for mythic year of the PS3. I hear it's almost here.

Yes I went out and got it, not just because it was halo but more because absolutely nothing good came out in the summer so my gamer fund was full of cash. My rating for the campaign first time through is 4/5 and my rating for firefight is 5/5. (though campaign after playing firefight is about a 3/5)
I actually liked the campaign more than I did in the other series mostly because there wasn't any flood levels (fighting them is boring) but the problem I had with it is you play it once and then go, I think Ill try firefight for a bit. Then you go back and play the campaign and its kinda dull because never will things be as frantic or desperate.
Anyway its kinda funny how he talks about how people just hate the game because its halo and don't really give a reason to way they hate it, and half the posts are people just coming on to say they hate the game and won't buy it. but i think the real reason popular games get so much hate, is you can't hate it if you don't know about it.

If you look at the Standard definition comments then compare them to the HD comments (which are different just look in the corner of the video for SD/HD) it seems the HD comments are much more intelligent, free of the annoyance of multiple fanboys. odd.

i agree with that: i hate it when tv shows and video games have that halo effect, like CSI and Mario games. At least ODST was somewhat unique compared to Halo 3 and it feels different.

Whether you have 'Halo' in your name or not, you should be able to stand on your own as a full priced game; not lean against multiplayer that's 2 years old and a BETA code for a game that doesn't even exist yet. My problem with the game isn't that it's not good, it's that it capitalizes on the hype of the name in order to sell a product at an overvalued price. IF Halo gets a 5/5 why doesn't Madden 10 get a 5/5? The major point of contention is that Madden doesn't do enough year after year to substantiate a new game, yet, like ODST, Madden 10 capitalizes on it's past successes while adding just enough new content to the game that could arguably justify the price.

I dont know why, but i feel like this game will be re-reviewed. 3.5 was all it should get. The 3 new maps, left a brown taste in my mouth. I didnt even kno that was possible. The last game that came with a halo beta sold great, but a terrible game. Same here i believe. Sure some people will like it, i do.

The campaign was kinda.. Dumb. I beat the game twice (12 hours), and have no idea how he can become other people... Holy shat, i think your sam from Quantum Leap! Maybe not. But then again, i didnt pay much attention to the story simply because the graphics it presented on my 1080i tv was not up to par to the oh so in depth storyline (i see threw your bump mapping bungie). Less time on story more time on code would have been great in this situation. maybe a lil hd?

Im trading my copy of odst in on modern warfare in a couple days when im done with achievements, Before everyone else does and no stores will accept it. (ya never know)... I think the halo effect has taken this one and made sweet billion dollar love with it.. Everyone makes mistakes, and this is bungies. Maybe im not a HUGE halo fan, but im a fan of fps. And This is not up to standards with the 60$ price tag, i just hope some honest reviews come out soon. IGN and xplay haven't been very honest.. Yet.

And why hasn't anyone been upset this was released as retail not the expansion? The original idea was an expansion, lower cost and an amazing #1 game ADD ON. Releasing it as a retail should have upset us, we already bought your map packs bungie! This game should not be praised like it is, because of the name/makers. It boils down to bungie/microsoft selling a name, not a game.

*After a quick google, i foung out your not sam

i love sessler soapbox. ODST is so good in how it goes back to the first Halo with the health and pistol for example and then expanding the gaming experience with a better story and level design

I completely agree with Adam, when everyone is conforming to the big name (whether it relates to gaming, music, etc.) I always feel a sense that it's hard to continue to appreciate the things you love when they can be watered down by people you maybe can't even stand to be around talking about how they do the same things you do. That is especially true with Halo. I have a lot of people that I love to play with, but it can be those other ones that talk trash, quit, or betray you in the middle of a match that can make it hard to enjoy these games. I myself have avoid playing online for weeks because it can be hard to enjoy yourself when these people seem to be everywhere in matchmaking, but still I must say that I cannot blame developers for the actions of the people that play their games and I must say that Bungie did an outstanding job on ODST. Keep up the good work.
