Since the ODST's get fancy visors with night vision, Firefight maps can be played at night for a different take on the gameplay.

They didn't keep it under the rug. Nobody asked, so they didn't feel obligated to mention it.
All the reviewers are right though, as often as you get paired up with piss-poor team mates in 3, would you really want matchmaking to be picking who you play firefight with? I doubt it.
