Chris Hardwick and Olivia Munn explore yet another Blu-ray player: the Sony BDP-S360 where you can watch even standard DVDs in 1080p, a quick start mode, BD Live content and more for only $200.

What You Need To Know

  • The design is much sleeker and smaller than the past Blu-ray players we've reviewed.
  • It is only 2" thick and about 8" deep, almost half the size of the other players.
  • The flip down face is cool, too.
  • It also offers the standard amount of outputs for your home theater: optical and co-ax audio out with a component and composite video out.
  • The USB port for external storage is recessed, which makes it hard to plug in larger thumb drives.
  • The player also doesn't support Netflix, YouTube or other Internet streaming features.
  • However, it does feature a Sony Cross Media bar with an easy to use interface, which a lot of players don't have.
  • There's also support for BD Live downloadable content, even though there's not a lot of content to download.
  • The quality looks fantastic which rich blacks, a lot of details and popping colors.
  • The Pioneer BDP-320 player was a tiny bit better, but you can't really tell the difference.
  • The loading time is faster but still slower than the PlayStation 3.

Price

  • $200.00 which is still a good deal after the PS3 price drop.
  • If you want a standalone Blu-ray DVD player, this is a great choice.
