I think delays are a more situational thing if there are massive issues i would rather have a large delay for the fixes rather than a buggy game. Now if there trying to find every small error that won't really effect game play then yeah honestly just get send it out and most people won't find the said bug so I think delays are most of the time good so there are less bugs and such,

Did anyone else watch whoever was playing Bionic Commando fail really hard all the time?

I do agree with you that delaying a game can be a good thing, and many times it is, if it's only a short-lived, temporary delay to hold out for a more lucrative financial market, or to fix bugs and improve overall gameplay. However, waiting too long can be the bane of a title too. Prime example is Duke Nukem. Sit on a game too long, and all of a sudden, the cutting edge product that was going to revolutionize gaming is now massively old and outdated technology and you'll have to start from scratch to make a game comparable to the current market.

Another thing to realize is the fact that - like you said, holdouts mean expectations for a stellar production increase in the media and gamer communities alike. Imagine if Killzone 2 came out and it was as lame as Bionic Commando 2009. People would have been standing at the doors of Guerrilla games with torches and pitchforks screaming for the head of Michal Valient. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an extreme exaggeration, but I think it goes without saying after the few years of build up and delays that game experienced, people would have been beyond pi--ed if the game stunk.

So I guess, like all things in life, there's a happy medium for delays. If it's to improve quality, or to find a stronger niche in the sales market, more power to you - just don't wait so long that the window of opprotunity slams shut on you.

    To quote Miyamoto:
"A delayed game is eventually good. A bad game is bad forever."

I couldn't agree more with adam
Last year with about i Dunno 13 games I would have like to bought in the same month killed me, I bought as much as I could afford mainly the big ones So I missed out on Mirror's Edge dead space farcry 2 and others what Ive heard are great games, and the games I did manage to buy I couldn't focus on one and really get involved cause I kept on thinking o I should play left 4 dead O now I wanna play fallout. It was tiring on my wallet and my thumbs. But this year I got Killzone sunk 50 hours of online into that then came street fighter 4 took another 50 hours then Infamous where I played 10 Play throughs now came conduit which I sunk at least 30 hours in then splosion man which i'm playing now
There are so many great games spaced out so I can sink some time in them and my wallet gets some breathing room between releases after splosion man I'll give wii sports rsort a go its awesome and I completely agree with the separations

I totally agree with this soapbox. Yes it does suck that some games have been delayed until next year. I would love to play Bioshock 2 (for example) this year but I would rather have a much better game on release. Besides, I'm already going to be playing ODST, Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands, L4D2, and probably some other new games this year. To me the games that are still coming out this year are great and will keep me plenty busy.

sometimes delays are a good thing, but not if the delay is 2 or 3 years like RE5.

OMG!! I was thinking the same thing. i kept waiting and waiting for him to at least mention ac2. but no, he didn't even think about it. if someone had 120 dollars to spend on games ac2 would definitely be one of them. i just can't believe he didn't even mention it

There are very few games I buy now. I rent most of them. The ones I buy are PC games, games with peripherals (ie Guitar Hero, Rock Band), or Zelda games (got to love those Zelda games).

There are too many games that are short, and one time play. Punch out is fun, but really short, and not too much replay value (especially since the boxers repeat the same movements over and over again). The game better have a damn good multiplayer that I would be playing for hundreds of hours (ie TF2, L4D) or a single player worth replaying multiple times because of different experiences of each play (like most of Bioware games)
