Nikon D5000 Review

Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn review the D5000, which is the ultimate digital SLR camera from Nikon: smaller, lighter, and easier to use with 12.3 megapixels, 720p video recording, geo-tagging and more.

What You Need to Know

• The camera is about 6" deep with the lens
• It weighs about 2 lbs.
• It also has a swiveling LCD
• The problem with the interface is, you really don't know where to find the setting you want to change; for example, if you wanted to shoot continuously, you have to press the info button twice, then find "release mode," which isn't very descriptive, then change to the multiple frame mode
• We'd rather they just stuck to their old interface
• The D5,000 records in 720p (1280 x 720) at 24fps, but it still ends up being a little grainy and noisy
• Also, there is no auto focus during recording, but you can use the manual focus ring
• Pictures look great
• Normal light shots have warm colors and accurate exposure
• It doesn't have the highest megapixel count of the DSLR battle, but it's still has lots of detail
• Low light shots also look good since the flash distributes exposure evenly
• If using it were easier, or the video looked better, we could fully recommend it
