Still not convinced about the new iPhone 3GS? No worries, because Chris Hardwick is here to give a hands-on review of the fastest iPhone yet, with an improved 3 megapixel camera, video recording capabilities and much, much more.

What You Need To Know

  • The new 3GS offers an array of new features, including an improved camera, voice control, a digital compass, 15 gigs of storage and more.
  • The design of the phone is practically the same as the 3G  with some small improvements: a brighter screen, less fingerprints.
  • The 3GS includes double the RAM (256MB) and 200 more megahertz (600 over 400).
  • Compared to the SG, applications launch faster, pages load quicker and is overall much snappier.
  • Hopefully, they will integrate multi-tasking like the Palm Pre.
  • Pictures look better with more warmth, detail and are not nearly as blurry.
  • Video also looks great and the application works well so you can scrub through the timeline and edit videos right on the phone. You can only email about 6 megs (around 45 seconds) of video though.
  • There is still no flash on the camera.
  • Overall, it's not the best camera on the cell phone, but better than the 3G.
  • Other useful features like Voice Control and the Digital Compass are useful. The compass is integrated with Google Maps and shows which way you are facing.

Price

  • $200 with an AT&T contract, all worth the price with improved battery life!
  • However, if you already have the 3G, buying a new 3GS may not be necessary.

Its a great phone, however, AT&T is crap, their 3G coverage is pitiful and their Voice coverage is less that stellar, and their network is filled with static. So until this phone comes to Alltel, or should I say Verizon, I will be avoiding it.

I got a 3G S as my first iPhone and I love this thing, does everything you could want a smart phone to do. Only gripe is having to be connected to a computer or wireless to download apps over 10MB, feels like if a company is capping your web access even though you are paying for an "Unlimited" plan. Makes the app store pretty much irrelevant for someone on the go.

As a proud owner of a 5 month old crapple 3g (v1.4), this the second update I've had to suffer through. I have dial-up, so it has taken me 4 attempts,14-18 hours each time and still I wonder if it's worth the effort or I shoud i drive 100 miles to the nearest crapple store. All in all I've used it it for alot things and it hasn't let me down yet.

Folks, Give me a break. This phone is a shadow of the phone at the link I am about to give you.

    http://i8910hd.samsungmobile .com/feature

    Go look at this.

They have yet to give us a Camera that is even close to the Rest of the Freggin World. 5 MP is the norm not 3.2. The phone I just gave you is 8 MP. Plus up to 48 GB of Ram 16 on board and 32 via SD. and that is just starters.

Try full multitasking and it goes on and on and on.

    Need I say more. Not.

I agree with you GamerCore... Exactly my thoughts.. The Iphone held out till now to include basic features others couldnt justify not including in the first place...

And a network makes or brakes a device. Imagine if your wireless mouse dropped out when ever it felt like it and sometimes is wouldnt react at all... would you willing buy it just because it finally has a scroll wheel and has adopted an optical tracker???

Did I miss something or have the cell phone flame wars officially begun Android vs. iPhone vs. Palm Pre. Is the volatility over stupid stuff because the younger generation have no purpose, or perhaps realize the world is goin to h3ll in a hurry. Maybe it''s the bottled water.

And I think Chris and Kevin just fell for Apple's "gonna give you the bare basics if even that" features on the original iPhone and they're so jazzed that they finally have stuff people have been doing on their Sidekicks and Blackberry's for years now. I have a phone that can actually cut and paste! 4.5 out of 5!!!! I have a phone that can actually make a phone call now! 4.5 out of 5!!!! Steve Jobs is a GENIUS.

Andriod kicks OSX's buttcheeks.... Although Apple's tech is always awesome... =p

Contract really kill it in lots of way. The only time I find my $80/m 3g contract useful is when I'm taking a road trip otherwise, it really unnecessary.

How about setting the default setting of "location services" to "off" and having the apps that use it turn it on when needed and turn it off when the app closes??
