Hey Sess, well said! My hat is off to you!! I'm looking forward to another awesome zombie slugfest, i don't care what l4d2 is like so long as it is as good as the first one, if not better!

I don't hate valve at all, I actually like them and hold them among the best developers out there. I have liked most of their games, and every time I see one of them I know it will be a quality experience.

My main gripe with this whole issue is that L4D is a multiplayer game, not a single player game. Okay, this is extremely different than most other franchises because the game relies on an online community, and it is supposed to last for a while. I bought the game due to its longetivity and promised improvement over time. So yeah, it sucks that L4D basically got axed and no additional content will be released for it(The SDK is the only thin on its way...). It just feels as if I ended up paying for a beta instead of a full game. A sour taste.

Ultimately we ended with a very small, unfulilled game(L4D) and a sequel that is basically the same game with the already promised improvements. The good thing is, they are at least working on the franchise to improve it.

Of course, this is valve, not known to screw up their customers, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt regardless of the future of L4D as a franchise.

I noticed that most of the people complaining about L4D2 are pc gamers, and that console gamers don't really see anything into it. I guess PC gamers are used to have more content available for mutiplayer games, specially from valve.

The only thing that really calmed me in a way, was that Gabe himself knew this was not a good move.

I played the L4D demo and i just did not like the controls. Does the actuall game let you change your control style? if not i hope L4D2 will let you.

while i do agree with some of the stuff you said, i only hope the game isnt a full price game of $60. It better have more than just malee weapons and 4 new levels for me to cough up $60 bucks

Well said Sess..the only point I have to disagree with is the statement about how "good" L4D was.. the graphics we're terrible and it bored me to tears.

If you played L4D more than 10 hours, you got your money's worth (and who only played this fantastic game for those few hours...right, NO ONE). The boycotters need to quit crying and let the rest of us enjoy L4D2 when it's released.

At first I didn't believe there actually was a petition going. It seemed far too absurd, but the internet proved me wrong once again.

Seriously people. Do you honestly think Valve is abandoning you? Look at their track record for games, nearly all of them are AAA titles. Saying as a consumer that your entitled to L4D2 becasue you purchased L4D is like saying that your entitled to a washing machine just becasue you bought a dryer.

Once again Adam has to waste his breath telling off the idiots. But thank you anyway Mr. Sessler!

I agree; L4D is a fantastic game, and fantastic games tend to have fantastic sequels. I didn't feel cheated out of anything, with perhaps the minor exception of 4-way split-screen.

I totaly agree with Adam. Everyone is over reacting. The game is completely different. All who don't want this to come out sone can wait and buy this when there ready and all of use who want L4D2 can buy it when it comes out.

Adam you are very right that Left 4 Dead is a great game. I also think that Left 4 Dead 2 will also be great cuz come on there is nothing better than shooting zombies in the face. The only problem that I have with L4D2 is that it is coming out a year later. I think that all gamers can agree when game devolopers pump out titles to quick they are the same with nothing really new or exciting in the gameplay. Keep up the great work.

i think that it's great that they are coming out with a sequal in a year. that just shows that they care about the people who care about them. revjtanton, i love the connection u made with Fallout and how much stuff they have put out in a year and the sequal they are working on and no one seems to be bitching there...yet.

While I usually agree with much of what Adam has to say I must respectfully disagree with him a bit on this one.

I bought L4D and play it on and off; for the most part it is an excellent game and I think it is very well done. Valve though at its release promised that various things which had been discussed but were not implemented in the final game would be patched in down the road. The anti-L4D2 group are a little peeved because it seems like these promises are going by the wayside, and any new content which was going to make it into L4D through a patch will now be shunted into L4D 2 instead.

Put it another way: Valve haven't been charging $10 or even $5 for every class they update in Team Fortress 2, or pushing out a new game and calling it Team Fortress 3. Granted this is a far from perfect analogy but it does demonstrate that Valve is certainly willing to support its releases with new content down the line without necessarily attaching a $ sign to it.

While Adam is certainly correct in saying some people will whine in order just to whine, and do feel a sense of entitlement where none may be justified, there are other people who are wondering why Valve chose to go down this full-sequel route instead of making a DLC option or some other possibility short of a full sequel.

I addressed this exact issue on my own gaming blog at http://thegaffadin.blogspot.co m/2009/06/left-4-dead-2.html recently, and stand by what I said there. While I am not some rabid fanboi who expects instant gratification and his mother's credit card on demand, I can also see the other side that perhaps some of the detractors have some (emphasis on *some*) valid points with regards to L4D 2.

    Ok 2 things.
    1) Because playing video games is SUCH an interactive experience, fanboy's tend to become more prevelent, mostly out of the fact that they become a fanboy because of that interactive experience they felt. Be it the first time you got a kill in halo online all the way back to playing your first mario (cause i know you did) now because of this, fanboys tend to develop a very personal bond to a game or game characters, for one reason or another those faces are familiar, and most importantly fun. Hence brings us to l4d2 (weird acronym but i digress), personally, I love that valve once again breaks away from the norm, I did appreciate their almost nostalgic take on zombie movies/games. Taking almost every horror film trick in the book and making a bad mother of a zombie film....that you get to play. BUT, giving a new story, new location and even new time of day, keeps this ipo VERY fresh, Valve KNOWS their onto something really good and really big and they don't want to screw it up or make it stale.
    2) One underlying current of the gaming community is this. Gamers. Have. No. Life. Don't take offense, but face it the culture as a whole hasn't been known to be the most tolerant group. Trolls are gonna flame, whiners are gonna whine, and the mother of it all is there isn't anything we can do about it except accept it as the pathetic ranting that it is. You don't like what a company is doing with their game. MAKE YOUR OWN!!

You guys are missing the whole point Valve said that they would create an expansion pack form L4D, which is one of the best games ever made, but instead decided to make L4D2. I don't think that L4D which has 4 levels was really worth my $50 however, I shelled it out because they said they would create and expansion pack.

I'm also angry that once I bought L4D the very next month they put it on sale for half! WTF!

So, I'm mad that they are just abandoning L4D and going to L4D2 when L4D2 seems like the expansion we all have been waiting for. The very least Valve could do is offer L4D2 to original owners for $20-25.

Adam is totally correct. Left 4 Dead on it's own is a great game. They did release the survivor pack for dlc which was great. Just be freaking thankful they are releasing L4D2 so soon for everyone to enjoy. Just like the soapbox says, quit your bitching!
