If you've been looking to go HD, but don't have the space or dough for a gigantic monster of a set, the 32" Westinghouse HDTV may be the one for you, but beware, for the DVD player is standard definition. It'll run you $579.

What You Need to Know

  • The TV/DVD combo is definitely a space saver
  • Even though there are weird parts jutting out, it's only about 7" thick
  • All of the inputs are on the side, so you can wall-mount it
  • Overall, it's accessible and easily hidden
  • The "pixel direct" technology makes things look better than most normal DVD players, but we wish it would up-convert
  • It displays up to 720p, so you won't get full 1080p out of a Blu-ray, but everything looked bright and natural
  • Details weren't as sharp as we'd have liked to see and the more motion that was on screen, the less you could make out
  • The 1200:1 contrast ratio is low, but the blacks look deep enough
  • The speakers are quiet even at max volume

Price

  • $579
  • It really is a good budget TV, but since the market is so competitive right now, they just need to lower the price a bit more
