Mitsubishi 149 Series HDTV

If you're in the market for a new television, you want one with crystal clear picture quality, great sound and, most importantly, one that will impress your friends. Does the Mitsubishi 149 Series HDTV fit the bill? We'll tell you in Gadget Pr0n.

What You Need to Know

  • It's about 5" thin and all the inputs are side mounted, so it's easily wall mounted
  • It's all black so it won't be too imposing in any setting
  • The sound projector mounted on the bottom looks pretty sweet too
  • The sound bar that is supposed to provide virtual surround sound is not as good as the Sony or Yamaha systems we reviewed
  • It's just like the other systems we've seen because it reflects sound off walls to emulate rear speakers
  • It's only an okay surround experience
  • The bass is lacking, but highs and mids sound great
  • Lots of volume, so you don't have to have a home theater system, but this sound bar definitely doesn't take the place of a good system
  • The colors are warm and natural: it's not quite as vibrant as the Samsung 8 Series, but it's damn close
  • The 120 hertz smooth motion works great when there is little motion, but it's kind of blurry when you have it turned all the way up
  • Overall, it ranks as one of the best pictures we've seen
  • If you need good built-in sound along with a great picture, spend a little more and buy this
  • If you already have a good sound system, buy the 46" Samsung

  • $2,300
