Acer Aspire One Notebook

Chris Hardwick gets intimate with the new Acer Aspire One Notebook computer, and tells us what we can expect to see in it, with this edition of Gadget Pr0n.

What You Need to Know

  • The glossy finish gives it less of a kid's look than the EEE, but it does attract fingerprints
  • It's a little thicker than the EEE at just over an inch, but it does weigh less than the Wind at 2.1 lbs.
  • Overall, we like the look of it
  • The keyboard is a little larger than the EEE and much easier to type on; the keys are raised and equally spaced whereas the EEE had random keys that were smaller or larger
  • The touchpad is a bit too small and the mouse clicks are on the right and left, which takes some getting used to
  • It has almost double the processing power of the Asus
  • It managed an amazing boot time of 18 seconds from power off to home screen
  • The 512MB of RAM and 8GB solid state drive are a little limiting; if you spend a little more you can get XP, a GB of RAM and 160GB of storage
  • The specs are much better with the Asus for the same price, so there's really no reason not to get this

  • The base model is about $330
