There are millions of sites on the internet vying for attention and for any one to retain regular visitors is remarkable. More remarkable still is the ability of some sites to gain mass market appeal across age and gender lines, yet the social networking site, MySpace has done that and then some.

However, it’s not without competitors. Facebook, for example, is always nipping at its heals and has gone so far as to try and draw more attention by offering widgets to users, thereby allowing them to do everything from file sharing to online gaming.

In response, MySpace is now providing development tools so that its users can create their own unique widgets. Will that once again widen the popularity gap between the two competing social networks? Can third party development save MySpace?

To answer that question, we’ll welcome Writer for Wired, Terrence Russell and Blogger for Bloggasm, Simon Owens.
