StarCraft, released in 2000, was Blizzard Entertainment's real-time strategy title that ended up turning in to a national sport in South Korea. The single player campaign concerns three fictional races, the Terran, Protoss, and Zerg, but most people focus on the game's competitive multiplayer.
The stars all aligned, and the popularity of StarCraft exploded in South Korea thanks to the emergence of PC Bangs. People began playing SC's multiplayer professionally and a few even went on to become national superstars, raking in millions of dollars in prizes and sponsorships.
