why wait for 4k hdtv before stereo3d? I already use it on my 22' 3d LCD and think it's awesome!

The console itself will be no more than a commodity sooner than later, where the only differentiation is the services each manufacturer brings to the table.
I'd also expect much more residual income based gaming ( subscriptions, content downloads, etc ).
As for retailers, I think their best chance for survival outside of used games is to sell the "culture" of games. Think the cross between Starbucks and an arcade.
