Living in the Trees

Why visit the rainforest if you're not going to fully enjoy it? Finca Bellavista, situated in 600 acres of untouched rainforest, provides the ultimate getaway experience. The private treehouse resort allows its visitors to enjoy the beautiful enviornment from within one and two-story treehouses. Each of the houses are connected by beautifully constructed suspension bridges.  Oh, and did I mention that there is ziplining?

The Getaway Vehicle

Craving a little more freedom while on the open road? The Aprilla Dorsoduro 1200 promises to be the perfect getaway vehicle and will take you anywhere you need to go at a decent price ($11,000 MSRP). Rideapart took the motorcycle out for a spin and nothing but good things to say about the 1,197cc v-twin beast.  Despite it's tall apperance (seat height is a massive 34.25 inches) the Dorsoduro is both compact and light at a 494lbs. Concerened about stopping power? The Dorsoduro also comes with ABS brakes and is at home on both the crowded LA streets and the open road. Oh, and did I mention that it looks absolutely stunning. Honestly, I completely forgot that this was a supermoto. It's restrained colors don't scream for attention, but are enough to turn a few heads while you cruise to your next vacation destination. What are you waiting for? Pack a bag and hit the road.

Cooking a decent plate of ribs is both easy and difficult. Most chefs (not featured on Knife Fight) walk into the kitchen thinking that a plate of smoked bbq ribs is the simplest thing to cook. They would be dead wrong. It is true that ribs are relativley uncomplicated, but they can be easily ruined by simply not paying attention while you snag another beer. Luckily, The Art of Manliness has a bulletproof guide on how to cook the perfect rack of ribs. But before you go venturing into the world of smoked ribs, we should take a look at the ingredients you'll need:

  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of paprika
  • 3 tablespoons of salt
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of celery seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

It looks simple enough and shouldn't take you longer than an hour to prepare and cook. But what will you serve with your smoked ribs? Personally, my favorite is the addition of some simple honey cornbread muffins. Are you more of a pasta guy? Well, you could go for the easy-to-cook asparagus and lemon pasta. Or you could just serve them with your favorite IPA brew or cider. Now go out there and cook.

Situated in Northen Finland, Kakslautten Resort offers travelers a place to stay in some truly unique glass  igloos.  Each igloo is wrapped in beautiful glass, allowing residents a breathtaking view of the Northen Lights without venturing outside in below zero temperatures. Low Carbs and Delicious

I have a confession to make: I hate cooking for more than 10 minutes. Honestly, if I were competing on Knife Fight I would give up within two minutes. So imagine my delight when I stumbled upon this delicious reciepe for Bay Scallop Shrimp Pasta. What makes it so special? Well, you can cook and serve it in just 10 minutes. The Art of Manliness came up with this new dish and I am literally salivating just talking about it. Too much information? Sorry, lets get down to the ingredients.

The receipe calls for:

  • Four large zucchini
  • Kosher salt
  • 1/2 stick of unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup of dry white wine, or substitue with chicken stock
  • 1 16.5 oz can fire roasted diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • Fresh cracked pepper
  • 1 lb bay scallops, or substitute shrimo, crab meat, etc.
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • Parmesan cheese, grated

I'd recommend pairing it with a white wine, and plenty of napkins. For the full recipe check out the Art of Manliness. Oh, and enjoy the dish!

The Evolution of Grilled Cheese

The Grilled Cheese sandwich is not the most exciting of things. You've probably been making it the same exact way since you were a child: two pieces of bread and some supermarket cheese. How do you spice up such a mundane piece of food like you were a crazy chef on Knife Fight? Let me enlighten you.

The Rasberry Twist Grilled Cheese is the perfect sandwich for those who want something quick and easy, but complicated enough to raise some eyebrows. The main ingredients include green onion, bread, butter, rasberry preserves, 4 slices of munster cheese, and chopped pecans. Yes, I said chopped pecans. The result is a Grilled Cheese sandwich that has a slight sour taste, but includes that familiar taste you've enjoyed since 1st grade. Don't believe me? Check out the full recipe and find out for yourself.

A Sandwich With No Fear

A Sandwich With No Fear

Once in every 10,000 years there is a sandiwch that defies all convention. A sandwich that  should not taste amazing, but somehow bends the rules of our tastebuds. This sandwich that would be home on a no-holds-barred cooking show like Knife Fight.

This sandwich is named the Dagwood and it is absolutely insane.

You've probably never heard of this monstrous creation (I hadn't until a few moments ago), but I assure you that it is quite possibly the most delicious thing you will ever taste. The sandwich is packed to the brim with salami, bologna, turkey, Ruffles potatoe chips, and pepporoni. Not enough? How about slapping on 4 slices of American cheese and deli ham? Check out the recipe right here if you're brave enough.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Four New S.H.I.E.L.D. Members Added

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, next year's unfrozen super-soldier sequel will have more than its fair share of new faces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it looks like four more have jumped on board, including an alumnus from Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. (Sacrilege?) According to Twitch, actors, (pictured left to right) Chin Han, Jenny Agutter, Alan Dale and Bernard White have been cast as new members of S.H.I.E.L.D. working under Robert Redford's character, Alexander Pierce.

While much of the film's details are still under wraps, Redford's Agent Alexander Pierce has recently been the focus of rumors and speculation after the actor may have accidentally revealed that there is more to the character than we were meant to believe. Of course, the aspect surrounding who Piece may or may not actually be has not been confirmed in any form. However, what is known, is that Pierce will be portrayed as a high-ranking official in S.H.I.E.L.D. The four additions to the team will be working directly under the dubious dignitary. That is the extent of the info at this point in time.

For Chin Han, who, in The Dark Knight, famously fell victim to the Joker's literal effort to "watch the world burn," is also coming off another DC Comics stint on TV's Arrow. He now takes his first stab at a Marvel property. Jenny Agutter, who has been consistently visible in television and film for decades, may be best remembered as the barely-clothed romantic interest in Logan's Run. However, she has actually already been in the MCU with a small role as a World Security Council member in The Avengers. Alan Dale is also a ubiquitously-working veteran actor, who you may have seen recently in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and stints on several TV shows like Entourage, The Killing, and Lost. Bernard White also possesses a vast resume of film and TV appearances going back to the early 80's. While sporadic TV stints seem to be his forte, he has also been seen in prominent films like The Matrix Revolutions and City of Angels.

The newfound foursome now join an already-impressive cast headlined by Chris Evans' juiced justice-bringer consisting of Robert Redford, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, UFC champion, Georges St-Pierre, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, and Sebastian Stan as Cap's unfrozen friend-turned-foe in the titular Winter Soldier.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier showcases more "shields" than it knows what to do with when it hits theaters on April 4, 2014.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Whoopi Goldberg Is Channel 6 Boss?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues its Michael Bay-produced reboot effort with the addition of a recognizable cast member as a (somewhat) recognizable character. According to a report surfacing on ComicBookMovie, Academy Award-winning actress and The View co-host, Whoopi Goldberg has been cast as the perpetually irate boss of Megan Fox's April O'Neil at Channel 6 News.

Photographs surfaced recently showing Goldberg leaving the New York set of TMNT, wearing a large, seemingly-electrified wig. However, CBM's source has apparently come across the identity of Goldberg's character, revealing her to be Bernadette Thompson, who is described as "an editor at Channel 6 News." The character (should the news prove legit,) would without a doubt be a nod to a character from the 1987-1996 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, Burne Thompson, the stout, shouting male boss of TV reporter, April O'Neil. Interestingly enough, this character would not be the first nod to the classic cartoon, since comedic actor, and star of the newly-resurgent Arrested Development, Will Arnett is already on board as April's cowardly, conniving colleague, Vernon Fenwick. In fact, one of the more memorable inter-character dynamics on the classic show depicted Vernon sycophantically hanging around Burne, constantly trying to curry favor for any kind of journalistic advantage over his competition with April. It may be the case that this dynamic could be mirrored in the film between Arnett's Vernon and Goldberg's gender-swapped "Bernadette" character.

This, along with several of the other nods to the vintage show which a generation grew up watching could be taken as another sign of goodwill from Michael Bay and director, Jonathan Liebesman after the film's disastrous P.R. debut when Bay implied that the Turtles would be "aliens." The comment set the Internet into an unquenchable blaze of hate, and had seemingly lost the purists before a single scene was shot. Now that the movie is in production, things aren't looking quite so bleak and even the Turtles co-creator and initial naysayer, Kevin Eastman has gone on record regarding Michael Bay's handling of his franchise saying that, "He’s been nothing but amazingly respectful." In fact, Bay has recently stated that he "misspoke" in the "aliens" comment and affirmed that the fearsome foursome would NOT be aliens.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a purist-centered title that also came as a result of drama,) is set to bust out of a septic-saturated sewer to hit theaters on June 6, 2014.

The Expendables 3: Milla Jovovich In Negotiations To Join

The Expendables 3 will apparently be garnishing its whopping serving of testosterone with a bit of action-oriented estrogen. While a Deadline report indicates that the film is currently in the process of locking down several of its long-rumored cast members, amongst the list of names was a surprise worthy of a MultiPass in actress, Milla Jovovich.

Indeed, it appears that Jovovich, the star of The Fifth Element, Ultraviolet, as well as the five (and soon to be six) films in the long-running the Resident Evil film franchise has earned her place amongst the action film annals of The Expendables franchise; a proverbial cinematic hall of fame of kickass. While nothing has been revealed regarding the context of her role, in all likelihood, she'll be shedding some blood with the rest of the boys. As the report indicates, she could be set to join fellow new inductees like Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, and Nicolas Cage, all of whom are said to be in "advanced negotiations" to hop aboard this cinematic cruise ship of carnage. Also, Stallone recently revealed that he's been talking with the enigmatic real-life criminal catcher, Steven Seagal about a role and news could come soon on whether he was successful in procuring the action legend.

At the moment, the film appears to have everything it needs to kick off production for its brand of unapologetic anthropogenic apocalyptic ass-beatings. The repertory cast of Sylvester Stallone (who is also essentially in charge of the franchise), Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and the returning Mickey Rourke are already locked and loaded. Plus, Stallone has hand-picked an up-and-coming director in, Patrick Hughes, who wrote and directed the 2010 contemporary western action flick, Red Hill. With the recent surge of old-school action stars returning to box-office prominence seemingly in jeopardy this year with abysmal box-office efforts in Stallone's Bullet to the Head and Arnold Schwarzenegger's The Last  Stand, adjustments had to be made to ensure that this cash-cow of a franchise does not suffer the same humiliation. The addition of Milla Jovovich could be a step in not only adding some sex appeal to the primary cast, but could give this entry a much-needed new flavor.

The Expendables 3 trades viral zombies for generic terrorist targets when it hits theaters, likely sometime in 2014.

Machete Kills: Debut Teaser Trailer Brings The Big Guns

Machete Kills has released its first teaser trailer and it's immediately clear that director, Robert Rodriguez's approach to the film could be summarized by one old saying: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

What started as a "Mexploitation" premise conceived in Rodriguez's mind 20 years ago, later becoming a fake trailer in 2007's Grindhouse, eventually evolving into the controversial 2010 Machete feature film has brought its ambitiously over-the-top proclivities to this upcoming sequel without losing a single step. Star, Danny Trejo returns as the ex-Federale, Machete Cortez, a walking, talking killing machine...of death who trouble just can't resist finding.

This time, it looks like William Sadler's small town sheriff gets an all-too-critical call from the U.S. President to release Machete. (Who he took into custody without the use of Extremis.) It seems the President has a mission for Machete to take down an evil arms dealer played by a more sane version of Mel Gibson. Of course, as anyone who's seen the first film knows, Machete's had bad experiences taking these type of jobs from politicians with hidden agendas. But, then again, this is the President. How can you NOT trust him? Especially if that President is CHARLIE SHEEN. (Under his real name of "Carlos Estevez," for the sake of doing as the Romans do, so to speak.) -- And really, that's all you need to know about the plot. At this point, the smelly remnant of a major Taco Bell bender is about to hit the fan and your eyes get treated to an orgy of all-out carnage and bizarre, confusing sexual innuendo. So, as I implied, more of the same.

Rounding out this humongous cast are a returning Michelle Rodriguez, Sofía Vergara (the bringer of the literal and figurative "big guns"), Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tom Savini, and Lady Gaga as what appears to be a creepy/sexy killer roadside hooker...just because.

Machete Kills reveals that blood of the wicked is a perfect condiment for "Taco Time" when it hits theaters on September 13. Check out the debut teaser trailer below!
