Troy Baker To Voice Jake Mueller In Resident Evil 6 -- Official Comic-Con 2012 News

Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata had some ear-perking things to say in a new interview with IGN concerning where the series is at right now and where it's headed. He does use the word "reboot," something that many believe the series sorely needs after the failure of Resident Evil 6 to be... you know... good, it's not entirely clear if that's the path being taken for whatever comes next.

"I think a lot of what people want now is to have Chris and Jill in a game, or they want it to look like Resident Evil used to look like. That’s what makes the game work for them. We should be able to start from scratch and reboot it. It would still be Resident Evil. We wouldn’t lose the essential nature of what makes it a good game just by changing the characters," he said. Not exactly a commitment to change. There's hope though!

Sony released an unusual trailer yesterday advertising a non-specific PlayStation event that will be held on February 20, 2013. The belief is that this is where the company will reveal its next-gen gaming console, a fact that "people familiar with the matter" have confirmed to the Wall Street Journal (via Kotaku).

Those same sources also indicate that the console is due for release later on in 2013. The February 20 event is set to happen in New York City at 6pm ET, less than a week before the company's annual Destination PlayStation event. Expect the usual media circus, but the good news is that you'll be able to watch too; the event will be streamed live.

Killer Is Dead Confirmed For Summer 2013 Release

XSEED issued a press release this morning detailing its 2013 slate, and sure enough, Grasshopper Manufacture's Killer Is Dead is listed among the upcoming titles. Previously confirmed for release in Japan only, we now know for certain that XSEED will publish the game in North America for a summer 2013 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

That's not all for XSEED in 2013, however. Joining Killer Is Dead this summer is the Nintendo 3DS RPG Rune Factory 4. A pair of PlayStation Vita titles will follow in the fall: Valhalla Knights 3 and Ys: Memories of Celceta. Next up, however, is Ys I & II Chronicles, an enhanced remake of the first two games in the series that is set to hit PCs sometime in February.

Grand Theft Auto V Release Date Announced

Rockstar Games announced today that Grand Theft Auto V will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 17th, 2013. Mark your calendars, clear your schedules, stock up on Mountain Dew (or actually don't, Dew contains a questionable food additive called BVO - Google it) and get ready to dive head first into Rockstar’s latest magnum opus. Too soon to call it a magnum opus? Nope!

"Grand Theft Auto V continues to push the series forward in new ways; Rockstar North are creating our deepest, most beautiful and most immersive world yet," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "We are very excited for people to learn more about the game in the coming months."

Me, I don’t need/want to know anything else. Get me this game! What do you think? Pumped? Bored? Indifferent about the GTA series? Let me know in the comments.

The Wolverine: New Image Shows Logan Looking Sharp

This summer's big screen return of Hugh Jackman as Marvel's beserker-rage-racked wrecking ball in The Wolverine has officially released a new image showing a more suave side of the stoic claw-swinger.

Exclusive to Empire, the image shows our hero, Logan carrying is usual intense demeanor while decked out in a smooth black suit; a look that will certainly be vogue in downtown Tokyo, Japan with the criminal elements with whom he'll be dealing. Of course, Logan's apparent stop at the Men's Warehouse was not without special purpose, seeing as he was summoned to the Land of the Rising Sun on behalf of an old flame named Mariko (Tao Okamoto) who has been bartered for marriage by her corrupt father like livestock.

Interestingly enough, the Empire article provides some new insight into the film's plot regarding the reasons for Wolverine's abrupt plane ticket purchase. Upon arriving in Japan, Logan will apparently reconnect with an old friend; an unnamed character who owes a great debt to him, wishing to repay it before he passes away.

"What you'll come to find is that this is someone he spent prison-time with in Nagasaki. And the legacy of that experience - effectively Logan saved him - is that this man is on his deathbed, and is looking to give him a gift, to thank him for the life he's had.

"But this gift draws Logan into a very complex and very unexpected world within both contemporary Japan and, to some extent, the feudal history of Japan. He's so in isolation, so out of his element. It's a much more powerful distillation of his character than you've seen before."

The film will ravage its way to theaters on July 26. Check out the poster below to see a handsomely-hair-trigger mutant who seems to clean up well when he's not busy disemboweling the diabolical.

Aliens Colonial Marines

Sega and Gearbox Software release Aliens: Colonial Marines on February 12, 2013, but it seems that there will be plenty more Xenomorph action to come in 2013 based on a DLC Season Pass product listing (via CVG). GameStop and Green Man Gaming both have product listings for a Season Pass priced $26.99 (discounted from $29.99), though Sega hasn't yet confirmed anything relating to post-release plans.

The identically worded listings promise four downloadable content pack releases to be released between March and "summer 2013," with Season Pass owners enjoying a 33 percent discount off the total cost of the four individual packs together. The listings also hint at what to expect, with "campaign content, additional multiplayer maps, new modes, character customization, and more."

Iron Man 3 Reveals Super Bowl Spot And New Poster

It appears that Iron Man 3 will not go unnoticed during this Sunday's big game. A new teaser spot has made its debut which will air during the broadcast and a new poster has been unveiled showing Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark in a rather gravity-centric predicament.

Seeing as Super Bowl ads are now running at about $4 million, this spot clocks in at a hot 13 seconds. Consequently, the teaser spot is not be a marathon of new material, but it does contain a few sporadic tidbits of new images; specifically, a good look at Jon Favreau returning a Happy Hogan, Guy Pierce as Extremis nanovirus developer, Aldrich Killian, and another quick glimpse of the gorgeous Rebecca Hall as scientist, Maya Hansen, who seemed to pick the WORST possible time to visit Tony and Pepper at their home.

However, the most substantive revelation may come from the new poster which accompanies the spot. We've known for a while that at some point in the film, Tony gets his ass handed to him by something, leaving his armor in shambles. Yet, this poster seems to imply that Tony will once again learn the hard way that reentry is a bitch.

Check below to see the new teaser spot, as well as a poster showing what happens when cutbacks force Tony to use Chinese-made replacement parts for his armors. (Well, that's one theory, anyway.)

world of warcraft mists of pandaria

Legendary Pictures' World of Warcraft movie finally has a director (again): Duncan Jones. The Brit filmmaker, who also happens to be David Bowie's son, burst onto the scene several years ago with Sam Rockwell's one-man show in Moon. Jones followed up his successful debut with the sci-fi thriller Source Code, and now The Hollywood Reporter confirms that he's been tapped for the WoW adaptation.

This is the same project that Legendary tried to jumpstart some years back with Sam Raimi at the helm. The Evil Dead creator eventually bowed out to tackle Oz, The Great and Powerful, but Legendary will hang onto the Warcraft script developed by Charles Leavitt when Raimi was still on board. It's looking like this is a done deal now, with THR noting that production should begin in fall 2013, ahead of a planned 2015 release.

BioShock Infinite "City In The Sky" Gameplay Trailer »

Our last peek at BioShock Infinite came in the form of a trailer disguised as mini-documentary on the floating city of Columbia, but this latest one follows a more traditional path. Irrational Games' City in the Sky trailer is your basic, pre-launch runthrough of the story (as we currently know it) and key gameplay elements.

Of course, nothing in BioShock Infinite is really basic. From riding the Sky Line to Vigor-induced powers to your constant companion in Elizabeth, the narrative-heavy game feels like a BioShock adventure through and through. The wait won't be much longer. Infinite finally reveals itself to all on March 26, 2013.

Dust 514

When you’re doing something as revolutionary as CCP is with Dust 514, it can be easy to focus on the bigger aspects and forget about the basic gameplay mechanics that make modern shooters as popular as they are, but, thankfully, through the help of a year-long closed Beta, Dust 514 is continually getting closer to the standards set out by other heavy hitters in the genre while also creating new milestones along the way.

Dust 514 isn’t meant to be just another shooter, but rather, it takes a stance against stagnant innovation by turning the console shooter market on its head with a free-to-play, massively-multiplayer, first-person shooter available to anyone who has a PlayStation 3. That’s huge.

Flashback Due For An HD Remake In Flashback Origins?

Brace yourselves, cyberpunk fans. Flashback, the badass adventure game platformer from 1992, may be getting the HD remake treatment in something called Flashback Origins. The news comes from French site Gamalive (via Eurogamer), which claims that creator Paul Cuisset and his studio, VectorCell, is developing, with Ubisoft publishing.

Ubisoft has yet to confirm anything, but the teaser image above should certainly look familiar to fans of the original. The fact that Cuisset and VectorCell are handling development is a little bit alarming give the disaster that was 2012's Amy, but lessons can be learned. Besides, who knows Flashback better than its creator?

Assuming the report is accurate, it's looking like the plan is to release Flashback Origins sometime in 2013 for download on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and Steam.

Injustice: Gods Among Us "The Line" Story Trailer »

The latest trailer for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Netherrealm Studios' DC Comics fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, is all about the story (via All Games Beta). Or, perhaps, stories. It looks like there's quite a bit going on in this two-minute clip, titled "The Line."

There's some cool stuff happening here even if you're not versed in your DC lore. The trailer is light on gameplay and heavy on cinematics, but you can get from it a sense of the conflict that drives these various heroes and villains to trade punches in various environments.

Fans of DC lore will no doubt see things here that my untrained eyes aren't catching; let us know what stands out to you in the comments!

Doctor Who Themed TV Movie Gets Harry Potter Star

An upcoming TV movie chronicling the behind-the-scenes beginnings of the BBC's seminal sci-fi drama, Doctor Who has found its star in a former ornery detention-dealing groundskeeper of Hogwarts, David Bradley.

Set to be titled, An Adventure in Space and Time, the biographical movie will see the veteran actor, now best known for playing Argus Filch in the Harry Potter films, leave the Wizarding World behind to step into the role of William Hartnell, the actor who portrayed The First Doctor on the series from 1963-1966. Joining him will be Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity, Braveheart) as BBC head of drama, Sydney Newman and Jessica Raine (The Woman in Black, Robin Hood) as Doctor Who producer, Verity Lambert.

This shout-out to the time-traveling phenomenon that captured the imaginations of Whovians everywhere will not only chronicle the show's genesis, but sets it into the larger context of the cultural shifts happening in Britain in the early 1960's. However, it will not go unchristened by the current guard since it will also be watched over by current Doctor Who exec producers, Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner. According to Skinner:

“It’s a lovely story about very fascinating characters. There are lots of witty and entertaining stories about the genesis of Doctor Who which say quite a lot about what the early ‘60s in Britain was like. But it’s also a very personal story about William Hartnell and Verity Lambert and their relationship being forged in the making of what turned out to be a sensational hit show that we’re still watching today.”

Since its revival in 2005, the show is more popular than ever today. On this 50th anniversary of the series debut, the BBC is now more reflective of its long history than ever before, which makes this upcoming movie the perfect companion. (No pun intended.)

An Adventure in Space and Time will make its US debut at a still-unspecified time later this year.
