The Wolverine, this summer's big screen return of Marvel's adamantium-aligned ass-beater, has finally given us a look (of sorts) at some other people in the film besides star, Hugh Jackman in the form of his gorgeous female co-stars.
Director, James Mangold has tweeted black and white portraits of the film's starring trio taken on the last day of production. While we've known for some time what the extra-jacked Jackman will look like as Logan this time around, the photos of Tao Okamoto as Wolverine's embattled ex-love, Mariko and Rila Fukushima as the furtive femme fatale, Yukio serve as the first real publicity of any kind for the characters.
A desperate plea for help on the part of Okamoto's Mariko will be the inciting incident of the film which sends Logan on his fateful journey to the Land of the Rising Sun. When Mariko is forced into an involuntary marriage arranged by her crime boss father, it makes Logan rush to her rescue as a white knight (or in this case, samurai), getting him mixed up in all sorts of bad business on her behalf, including a tangle with the powerful mutant, The Silver Samurai (Will Yun Lee). However, a mysterious ally emerges in Fukushima's Yukio. While her ultimate motivations are not yet clear, it does seem that the sultry slayer has every intention of making moves on our hair-spiked hero that will have more than his claws raised.
Do the portraits give fans an incredibly insightful look at the film itself as something like, say...A TRAILER might provide? Nope. However, for fans who have read the original 1982 Frank Miller Wolverine miniseries on which it's based, the glimpse at least puts a set of new faces to the story they've known.
The Wolverine gives you "two chicks at the same time" without the aid of a million dollars at theaters on July 26. Check out the portraits in full below!
