38 Studios Talks Kingdom of Alamur: Reckoning

Earlier this week, Adam Sessler told me "Next year, let's declare a boycott on all colons. No more colons in game titles!" I'm starting to agree with him. Although I'm sure that as soon as that grassroots moment gets going, : the Game will be released. Then you'll have to prepare yourself for : : the Uprising sequel and so on.

Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning is right in the middle of colontown, and this is just their first foray into the realm. 38 Studios is going to follow the Torchlight model, and introduce this game as their single-player console and PC version before the MMO comes out sometime later. We have to imagine that's a cost-saving measure as well, so they can see how much interest there is in this title before spending a bundle on a massive multiplayer experience.

Comic-Con 2010: Kung Fu Rider Preview

Leave it up to Stephen “Love Me Some Weirdness” Johnson to track down and bring you a Comi-Con 2010 preview of Sony’s upcoming downloadable title Kung Fu Rider. Not only does the game apparently have little to nothing to do with kung fu fighting, but it also appears to encourage hurdling down city streets on office chairs. Throw in PlayStation Move support, and you have one odd concoction. Isn’t that right, Steve?

“Yes, that's a totally preposterous idea for a game, but it's got a loopy charm that cannot be denied. The action and characters are so cartoonish and silly, if it doesn't make you laugh and/or shake your head and say 'What the hell?' you don't have a soul.”

Read Steve’s full Kung Fu Rider Comic-Con 2010 preview to see what else makes this downloadable title has going for it.

Darth Vader Robs New York Bank, Still At LargeYou can usually find cosplayers at big conventions like Comic-Con or, if you've got that weird fetish thing, in the bedroom. But sometimes you'll find people dressing up as their favorite nerd characters for every day activities, like picking up the drycleaning, walking the dog or...robbing banks?

News outlets are reporting that yesterday, a 6' tall man wearing a Darth Vader mask and cape robbed a Chase bank at gunpoint in Long Island. The scene was comic enough that customers and staff thought it was a big joke.

But they soon realised how serious the man was when he produced a handgun and demanded cash. Police in New York are now trying to trace the phantom menace, who stuffed cash into a bag and disappeared.

Tron Legacy Jeff Bridges
Unless you've been living under a rock in the Australian Outback somewhere, then you've heard that there's a sequel to Tron coming out this year. This film stands as one of the pillars of geekdom, and who thought we'd see it again 28 years later? Tron: Legacy is set for a holiday release later this year. Disney is hoping to harness the geek lightning for this movie, and they brought out all of the big players at Comic-Con to talk turkey.
At yesterday's Tron press conference, they brought out Tron/Alan Bradley himself, Bruce Boxleitner, Jeff Bridges as Flynn/Clu, and newcomers Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn, Olivia Wilde as Quorra and Michael Sheen as Castor. Joining them were director Joe Kosinski, producer (and writer/director of the original Tron) Steve Lisberger, writers Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis (of Lost and Felicity fame), and some of the other crew members. Read on to see what went down.

Comic-Con 2010: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game Preview

It’s no surprise that the utterly beloved comic series Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is among the most talked about properties of this year’s Comic-Con. Between the final book just being released, the Edgar Wright movie, and, most importantly to us, the Ubisoft beat’em up game coming to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, this year’s show clearly has extra layers of epicness going on, and we couldn’t be happier. As such, we had Jason Engel check out Ubisoft’s upcoming game during a Sony event yesterday, and here’s a little of what Jason had to say about it:

"Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game is a classic 2D side-scrolling fighter. Both the gameplay and the graphics are reminiscent of the kick-and-punch games kids spent weeks' worth of allowance on -- one quarter at a time -- trying to beat back in the halcyon days of the arcade."

Check out Josh's full Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game Comic-Con preview for more details.
