Wreck-It Ralph Game Coming From Activision And Disney Interactive

A Wreck-It Ralph game is being developed by Activision in collaboration with Disney Interactive to release in conjuction with the animated movie later this fall. Wreck-It Ralph, the movie, tells the story of a clumsy 8-bit video game villain named Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) who, after for 30 years, gets sick of being overshadowed by his game's hero, Fix-It Felix, so he decides to hop in to other arcade games to prove that he can be a hero as well.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is Hershel's first adventure on the Nintendo 3DS. The puzzle-adventure game follows the events of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, and this time around it's up to Professor Layton and his assistants Luke and Emmy to solve the puzzle of the Gentleman of Miracles. 8-Bit Summer Official Trailer »

Nintendo's barrage of big announcements at the latest streaming Nintendo Direct press conference included the reveal of an upcoming 8-Bit Summer promotion for 3DS owners. The plan is to release two Virtual Console titles each week in the 3DS eShop, with a new trailer (above) confirming a handful of those titles and dates.

First up is The Legend of Zelda on July 5. Kirby's Pinball Land and The Sword of Hope 2 follow on July 12; then Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Tumblepop on July 19. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 closes out the month on July 26. Sonic Blast and Sonic Labyrinth are coming as well, presumably in the first and last week of July, but there's no confirmation on dates for those two.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 For Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo 3DS owners will soon be able to make good use of the device's Wi-Fi connection, with the publisher confirming during its latest streaming Nintendo Direct press conference that paid DLC is coming to both New Super Mario Bros. 2 -- now confirmed for an August 19, 2012 release -- and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle (via Gamasutra). On the Mario side, you can expect some extra levels in the game's Coin Rush mode, which sends players through a gauntlet of three random levels with the goal of collecting as many coins as possible.

Paid DLC is great, and a first for Nintendo's first-party titles, but Professor Layton fans get an even sweeter deal. Mask of Miracle hits stores in November, and those who own the game can look forward to a full year of FREE DLC, in the form of daily puzzle releases. All of this extra content ought to go well with the 3DS XL and its bundled 4GB SD card.

Super Smash Bros For The Wii U And 3DS Don't Have A Dev Teams Yet

Nintendo surprised the viewers of its latest streaming Nintendo Direct press conference with the revelation that Namco Bandai will be developing the next Super Smash Bros. game (via Gamasutra). Series creator and director Masahiro Sakurai is collaborating with the third-party publisher on the game, and the new team that he's working with will hopefully bring some fresh ideas into the series.

The next entry in the Super Smash Bros. beat 'em up series was actually first revealed at E3 2011 as a Wii U and Nintendo 3DS release. There's been no movement on the project since its initial announcement, with Sakurai and the Namco Bandai team only just getting started recently. In other words, we're probably going to have to wait a little bit before this game becomes a reality.

What are your hopes for the next Super Smash Bros.? Do you think the series has become stale over time? What do you think Namco Bandai brings to the equation that Nintendo hasn't on its own?

Nintendo 3DS XL Announced, Launching This Summer

UPDATE: Welp, we've got an official comment from Nintendo on the 3DS Circle Pad front. You're not gonna like it though. As far as an XL-sized Circle Pad peripheral goes, all Nintendo's got for you is: "We have nothing to announce at this time." Here's hoping we hear something prior to that August 19 launch, since games that support the Circle Pad will be lacking when playing on the XL.

ORIGINAL POST: Much like the DS before it, Nintendo will be releasing a super-sized version of its 3DS handheld, the 3DS XL. The larger device sports bigger screens -- just under five inches for the 3D and slightly more than four inches for the touch screen -- as well as a beefier battery and a bundled 4GB SD card.

Diablo 3 Beta Dates Announced

The May NPD results are in and have confirmed that PC gaming isn't dead, as they've named Diablo 3 the top selling game of the month. This is the first time since July 2010, when StarCraft 2 came out, that a PC-only game has been on top.

“PC Games sales realized a year over year increase of 230% realizing $80MM in sales, which softened the decline in software sales overall," said NPD analyst, Anita Frazier.

Other top games for the month include Max Payne 3, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Prototype 2, NBA 2K12, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Sniper Elite V2, Battlefield 3, Dragon's Dogma, and Just Dance 3.

Haunted Majora's Mask

Nintendo made a lot of gamers happy with the 3DS re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and now the publisher is looking to repeat that success with another enhanced Zelda port for the handheld device. It's apparently a tight race right now between Majora's Mask, the not-quite-sequel to Ocarina, and the SNES game A Link to the Past, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.

The Zelda creator admitted that "this is something we've certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with" in an E3 interview with IGN. Miyamoto has in the past expressed his desire to return the fan-favorite SNES Zelda, though he admitted at the time that he'd prefer to create something new and base it on the classic game than just put out a straight remake. As for Majora's Mask, a 3DS remake for the follow-up to Ocarina just makes good business sense, and it's something that fans have been asking for already.

Which one would you rather see? I think we can all agree that new Zelda is better (at least potentially) than remade Zelda, and that a new Link to the Past-based game trumps all. That said, it certainly would be such a terrible thing to be able to play Majora's Mask again.
