Animal Crossing 3DS

Nintendo of America has revealed, via Twitter, Animal Crossing for the 3DS will launch in North America during the first half of 2013. Earlier today we confirmed Animal Crossing 3DS will be released on November 8, 2012 in Japan. Americans will have to wait a few extra months but I'm sure it will be worth it.

Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing will be released on the 3DS in Japan. The title, known in Japan as Animal Crossing: Tobidase Dobutsu no Mori, which translates to Animal Crossing: Jump Out, will be released on November 8, 2012. More information about the title will be announced closer to its launch.

Animal Crossing 3DS is expected to launch in Europe, and hopefully the States, in early 2013.

Bittersweet news for Professor Layton fans this morning: the next game starring the puzzle-solving academic, coming to 3DS handhelds in 2013, will also be his final adventure. The news was confirmed by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino during the morning's Nintendo Direct streaming video press conference (via Andriasang).

The game's transliterated Japanese title is Professor Layton Choubunmei to A no Isan, which very roughly becomes "A heritage of civilization and ultra Professor Layton" in English. Expect a more Americanized title if/when there's a U.S. release, though no release plans outside of Japan were revealed during the presentation. There was, however, some footage shown and you can check it out in the video above. Look for the goods at right around the 30-second mark.

Attention, sport-os, jocks, and armchair quarterbacks: Madden NFL 13 is on store shelves today, so get your playbooks out and huddle up.

This year, Madden is powered by the Infinity Engine and features improved physics, as well as the full NFL roster and more. Check out the first 15 minutes of the game in the video below:

Nintendo Direct Brings Wii And 3DS News This Week

Nintendo has some 3DS and Wii news to share with you tomorrow, August 29, 2012, in the form of a new Nintendo Direct streaming press conference. There's very little detail about the event beyond the platforms that will be discussed. The conference is happening at 8pm in Japan, which converts to tomorrow morning at 7am ET / 4am PT.

Nintendo confirmed to Siliconera that the Wii U will not be discussed during this particular event. At this point, it feels like the company is playing chicken with the unreleased console's price and release date, especially with October and November already so crowded with marquee releases for other platforms.

Nintendo has tried to correct all of the shortcomings of the Nintendo 3DS with the Nintendo 3DS XL. In this edition of Tech Junkies, Morgan Webb goes through all of the pros and cons of the 3DS XL, including its bigger screen, longer battery life, and smaller speakers. Check out her in-depth review in the video below.

Ohio Middle School Removes Nintendo Power Magazine From LibraryBad news, gamers: If reports from Ars Technica turn out to be correct, Nintendo Power magazine is shutting down soon.

According to the source, Nintendo pulled the plug. The company, described as "difficult to work with," was uninterested in renewing its contract with Future Publishing, the group who published the magazine. According to the source, Nintendo is not interested in taking over direct control of Nintendo Power either.

Reportedly, Nintendo Power editors and staffers were told of the magazine's impending closure last weekend are being transitioned to work on other Future magazines and publications like GamesRadar and MacLife magazine.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Embargo June 1 2012 7am

Upcoming game Lego: The Lord of the Rings will feature 85 playable characters, including some folks not seen in the Lord of the Rings movies. Sadly, Traveler's Tales has yet to release the full list of included characters, so you can't see if your favorites have made the cut.

Lego: The Lord of the Rings will continue with the open-world style of Lego Batman 2, with the entire world of Middle Earth recreated based on Tolkien's maps and drawings. Everything will be located in the right place, and be fully explorable on foot or horse. The game will feature a fast-travel feature, too.

Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow - Mirror Of Fate 3DS Game Pushed To 2013

The Nintendo 3DS sequel Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate now won't be hitting stores until 2013. Konami had originally revealed the MercurySteam-developed game as a fall 2012 title, but the publisher has now confirmed to Game Informer that it won't be coming until next year. No reason is given for the change in plans.

Mirror of Fate looks to be breaking away from the more recent Castlevania DS games, embracing the same style of 3D presentation that highlighted the console-based Lords of Shadow, only for a 2D game. It seems pretty neat, as you can read for yourself in our Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate hands-on preview from E3 2012.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings has a fresh new trailer from Gamescom 2012. The tale of the one ring has never been told quite like this. All of your favorite members of the Fellowship will be represented in the LEGO LOTR, including my favorite, Legolas. Is it just me or is he hot even in LEGO form?

I was worried the LEGO sense of humor wouldn't mesh with the ultra-serious LOTR series, but Traveller's Tales, you've done it again!

Paper Mario: Sticker Star

While Nintendo continues to bank on having a big holiday with the 2012 launch of its new Wii U console, a newly updated release list confirms that you can also expect plenty of 3DS and DS games to play as well. The one you're probably going to be most excited about is Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which is now confirmed for a November 11, 2012 launch.

Coming a couple weeks before that is Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, on October 28, as well as Pokemon Black Version 2/White Version 2, both DS games, on October 7. The big absence is Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon; Nintendo now pegs the 3DS sequel to the GameCube classic for release "in the first half of 2013 in the Americas."

You can get the full list straight from Nintendo's press release.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Any return of Mario is like a visit from an old friend, they are often amazing, but sometimes spending time with a pal can reveal faults. Thankfully, new New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS is fantastic, and doesn't overstay its welcomce, either.

Alex Rubens has written a fantastic New Super Mario Bros. 2 review. Check out a little bit of it below:

"Don’t let the lack of innovation dissuade you though, New Super Mario Bros. 2 is 2D platforming at its finest. Navigating the levels as Mario feels just as it should, I never thought that a death was the result of the controls. Even when flying in the Tanooki suit, everything handled just as I expected, the controls are extremely tight, as is standard with the series."
