Mysterious Fatal Frame Screenshots Appear

We're only a couple of weeks away from Tokyo Game Show now, so it's no surprise to see all of this news pouring out of Japan. Tecmo's unique take on survival horror in the Fatal Frame series is coming to small screens for the first time, with Famitsu confirming that development is underway on a Fatal Frame release for Nintendo's 3DS.

The new game, called "Spirit Photo," apparently makes extensive use of the 3DS' built-in camera and AR capabilities, Famitsu reports (via Andriasang). Not a surprise for a series built around using photography as a survival tool. It's how the camera will be used for Spirit Photo that makes it sound like a very different sort of game than the handheld has yet seen.

Nintendo Reveals 3DS First Look Titles

Nintendo established the 3DS Ambassador Program as an apology to all of those early adopters that picked up the newly released handheld for its original price of $250. Nintendo slashed that number to $170 earlier this month, and so it's offering 3DS early adopters -- or "Ambassadors" -- 20 free downloadable games.

The first of those games arrive on September 1, a list of 10 classic NES titles that Nintendo has now identified in full. This list is specific to Japan for now, though the few previously announced titles have been identical across multiple regions.

Rollercoaster Tycoon

RollerCoaster Tycoon has been announced for the Nintendo 3DS according to an article in the latest issue of Nintendo Power Magazine. This new 3DS title will allow players to build the theme park of their dreams. Now, please excuse me while I dance around the office for a minute in nostalgic glee.

The new RollerCoaster Tycoon is being developed by n-Space and will be published by Atari. The game is being built from the ground up with new assets, will feature touchscreen controls, as well as the option to view coasters in 3D. Classic roller coaster types like suspended, hydraulic, wooden, steel, and inverted will be returning.

Not only are the coasters back, but other rides and attractions including monorails, kiddie rides, carousels, haunted houses, and more will also be available. The game will also feature a tutorial mode and other modes like Coaster Creator and Sandbox.

Nintendo 3DS Gets A Flame Red Paint Job On September 9

Some Nintendo 3DS rumors are kicking around this morning, compliments of a report from Bloomberg that the company is holding a pre-Tokyo Game Show event on September 13 that is related to the newly released handheld. This is unusual, as Nintendo does not usually have a presence at TGS.

Super Mario Land 2 And Metroid 2 Confirmed For UK 3DS eShop

There still aren't a whole lot of new games for the Nintendo 3DS, but at least we've got a wealth of downloadable eShop titles to play with, right??? Okay... maybe Urban Champion ISN'T so exciting, but a new update from the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine confirms two upcoming eShop titles that ARE worth your time, one starring Mario and the other starring Samus Aran.

A Tekken game was confirmed for the Nintendo 3DS at E3 earlier this summer, but now Namco Bandai has a full title for you -- Tekken 3D Prime Edition -- along with some details on what the cart will include. A roster of 40+ fighters, new and redesigned stages and, most importantly, Wi-Fi support. Presumably for online play.

In addition to the game, buyers will also find a copy Tekken: Blood Vengeance included on the cartridge. The CG animated film got a limited theatrical release in the US last month and a Blu-ray is coming later this year, but the 3DS version is of course viewable in 3D. No release date has been revealed for the game so far, but you can see how it's looking in the above trailer.

Wii U: Nintendo's New Console;

Patent-diggers have uncovered a 2010 filing for the phrase "Massively Single Player" in connection with, apparently, a new game, or, more accurately, a new kind of game.

The idea of the MSP genre is that you play as a single player, but exist in a world where other player's actions impact the characters and environment. This would offer players some of the benefits of a traditional online world without the drawbacks inherent to massively multiplayer online games. According to the application, "Those who want to play games that are more dynamic, not-based on Al and not-pre-scripted like multiplayer games, however, don't want to 'deal' with other people, appreciate the privacy it provides."

Taking the 3D out of Nintendo's 3DS

When Nintendo announced the now-official $80 price cut for its 3DS handheld, an accompanying Ambassador Program promised to reward early adopters -- which is to say, those who spent the original $250 on the device -- with 20 free downloadable games. The deadline was originally set for August 11, the day before the new price went into effect, but Nintendo is offering those who missed out a second chance.

Nintendo 3DS Gets A Flame Red Paint Job On September 9

The Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program ends tonight at 11:59 EST, meaning your chance to get up to 20 free games from Nintendo is almost up. Whether you got a Nintendo 3DS when it first came out, or picked one up this week when retailers cut the price of the Nintendo 3DS early, today is the last day to register the handheld by logging in to Nintendo's eShop.

If you make it, you'll get 10 free NES Virtual Console games on September 1 (including The Legend of Zelda, Balloon Fight and Ice Climber) and 10 more Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games (including Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario Vs. Donkey Kong).

It's a good deal, so make sure you don't miss it if you have a Nintendo 3DS!

Nintendo 3DS

Reports have been flooding in that video game retailers like Target and WalMart (and GameStop in the UK) have been dropping the price of the Nintendo 3DS from $250 to $170 early. The 30 percent 3DS price drop is officially supposed to occur on August 12, but many outlets are dropping the price early to beat out the competition.

What this means for those of you who haven't picked up a 3DS yet is that you could potentially get all of the free 20 downloadable "Ambassador" titles if you pick up a 3DS now, as the early adopter bonus is going on until August 11.

Did you already head out to the store and try to get in on this deal, or are you still not interested in the Nintendo 3DS even with the price drop? Or, are you perhaps waiting for the Flame Red Nintendo 3DS that's coming out on September 9?

Nintendo 3DS Gets A Flame Red Paint Job On September 9

The coolest thing about the new Flame Red color scheme for Nintendo's 3DS is that it lets you play out your fantasy of lighting your gaming device on fire without actually having to burn (pun most definitely intended) a couple hundred dollars. Why are you looking at me like that? Doesn't everyone want to set fire to their electronics? Hello?

The Flame Red 3DS joins the Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue launch models on September 9, the same day Star Fox 64 3D arrives. Early photos of the device teased a red color scheme, but this is the first time it will actually be available to buy. The new look for the handheld will set you back $170, since Nintendo's $80 price cut goes into effect this week.
