Legendary animator Don Bluth is…well, a legend. His hand help create some of the most acclaimed and beloved Disney films of all time (Robin Hood, The Sword and the Stone, The Jungle Book, to name a few), but he’s perhaps best known in gaming circles for his work on the arcade classic Dragon’s Lair, which has been released on pretty much every gaming platform imaginable since its release in the early 1980s.

Last year, Bluth founded his own development company, Square One Studios, which today released its first title, Tapper World Tour, an iOS reinterpretation of the arcade hit Tapper. We saw the game a few weeks back at GDC, and you can check out our preview for all the details. We also had a chance to sit down with Mr. Bluth at that time as well to talk about the legacy of Dragon’s Lair, his creative philosophies, and the lost art of hand-drawn animation.

The 11th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards as well as the 13th Annual Independent Games Festival winners were revealed yesterday at GDC, and the big winners of the night were Red Dead Redemption and Minecraft. Red Dead won a total of four awards, including the coveted Game of the Year Award, while Minecraft walked away with four awards as well between the two shows. Surprise! Just a year after releasing the iPad, Apple has revealed the iPad 2 during their keynote in San Francisco. The slimmer, sexier, shinier device is "33 percent thinner"(8.8 mm compared to the original 13.4 mm) and boasts dual cameras. Along with the facelift,  the iPad 2 also packs a dual core CPU.

The new A5 chip allows the iPad 2 to clock up to "9x faster graphics," while still maintaining an impressive 10 hour battery life. The tablet will also support HDMI video output, albiet you will have to purchase a $39 attachment to enjoy that luxury. Sword & Sworcery EP, the upcoming iPhone/iPad title from superbrothers, has a new video up. "Audience Calibration Procedure" presents an even more surreal look into this haunting title that uses retro graphics and a sense of wonder to create something new ... if not trippy. We took a look at the game back in October, and it is definitely on our radar. But don't just take my yakkin' for granted. Watch the video above and see what you think.

Adjust your upcoming game-radar and add Anomaly: Warzone Earth. The engaging little downloadable game from 11Bit Studios is coming to PC through Steam, as well as IPod and iPad, and the little indie game manages to be original, polished and a crap-ton of fun.

Anomaly takes the tower defense genre and turns it upside down, putting the players in charge of a squad of vehicles infiltrating territory and destroying the armaments of malevolent occupying army of aliens. What else does the game hold in store? Read on for more.

Peter Vesterbacka, the "Mighty Eagle" at Rovio just announced during their GDC panel that Angry Birds St. Patricks Day is coming soon as part of Angry Birds Seasons. Does that mean we can expect drunken birds? They're already angry, after all. Little flingable leprechaun birds would as happy as well. Expect it sometime "Well before St. Patrick's Day."

They also spoke briefly about the Angry Birds Rio game, meant to tie-in with the upcoming animated film. "We could make it work nicely with Angry Birds and the backstory. It could be the first time the birds leave the island, and are kidnapped by smugglers. This is not one of these lame movie games, but a separate game that works nicely with teh movie."

Angry Birds Rio is due out on March 22, and will retail for $.99 on Apple's App Store.

Hey, Feed faithful! This year’s Game Developers Conference is just around the corner, and we here at G4 are in the final planning stages as we prepare to bring you all of the breaking news, interviews, previews, panel discussions, rumors and videos your precious game-loving brains can handle straight from one of the year's biggest gatherings in the games industry.

GDC 2011 officially kicks off Monday, February 28 and lasts through March 4, and G4tv.com will be all over it like some kind of incurable developer conference fungus, only…you know…not as gross. We’re expecting to see plenty of big name titles at the show, from Battlefield 3 to The Darkness 2 to, perhaps, the new game from Epic Games that was previously rumored to be announced at the show. In other words, lots of good stuff.

In addition to the countless number of fascinating panels and roundtables, another big highlight will obviously be the keynote presentation from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, in which he may or may not announce that Wii Points have become the official currency of the universe. It’s more likely that he’ll stick to the keynote topic, “Video Games Turn 25: A Historical Perspective and Vision for the Future,” but we’ll see.

So keep your eyes and ears glued to G4tv.com starting next week for all of the latest updates from this year’s big show.

The 2011 GAME British Academy Video Game Awards nominations were announced today, and Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood led the field with seven nods, followed by Quantic Dreams’ Heavy Rain and Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops, both of which received six nominations.

Apple may be moving into the television gaming business. An Internet tech-head at Engadget noticed some code in the beta of Apple's iOS 4.3 3 firmware seem to suggest Apple plans to move into bringing games to your television.

According to Engadget:

"Several references have been found pertaining to 'ATVGames' and 'ATVThunder' that point to a controller of some sort, leaderboards (think Game Center), a way to schedule games (multiplayer?), and a store front (think App Store, iTunes)."

The code suggests to Engadget that Apple TV may be posisitioned as a game-streaming service, not dissimiallr to OnLive.
