Morning Hangover

Disney Epic Mickey

Disney Epic Mickey has been at the top of my most wanted list for a good long while now, so the fact that it’s finally hitting shelves today and gamers everywhere are finally going to be able to experience it is supremely exciting. However, I have a terrible feeling that despite Warren Spector's brilliance and the backing of Disney and Nintendo the game isn’t going to sell nearly as well as it deserves to, and that’s upsetting. I hope I'm wrong, but that's just how I feel.

This has been the case for a number of great games this year (the first that comes to mind is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West), and it’s something you just don’t want to see, especially if you’re someone who loves having new and exciting IPs to experience, as opposed to having to chose between nothing but sequels.

So what I want to know this morning is: how many of you honestly plan to pick up Disney Epic Mickey (or ask for it as a gift this holiday)? If you own a Wii, there’s really no excuse for not buying the game, but if you aren’t planning to buy it, what’s your excuse, and what games are you buying instead?

Left 4 Dead 2

The Thanksgiving 2010 holiday break is over, and chances are you are still recovering from the past few days of eating, drinking, dealing with your families, and, if you were lucky, gloriously uninterrupted stretches of quality gaming. Hopefully, a number of you had something funny, embarrassing, inappropriate, or all of the above happen to you over the break (Black Friday definitely included) because that’s exactly what we want to hear about this morning.

So come on. Best Thanksgiving Day/Black Friday stories. Go!

Morning Hangover: Thanksgiving Day Edition

So it's a long weekend -- what games are you playing? I have some relatives coming in, so I'll be breaking out the Kinect and hoping my (imaginary) Uncle Tony doesn't break anything when he gets drunk and falls over playing Dance Central. Then, late at night on Thursday, when everyone is asleep, I'm going to make a huge turkey sandwich, sneak into my living room and finish Fallout: New Vegas!

What about you?

Dance Central

I've been playing video games for a long, long time, and I'm pretty good at them. Not great. But good enough... except for Dance Central.

I popped that Kinect game in this weekend, and learned an important lesson about myself: I cannot dance. I do okay in real life, when I can go out on a dance floor and spazz out or something, but when it comes to actually doing dance moves that are planned and executed, I'm absolutely hopeless. I have three left feet.

But at least I know... what about you guys? Did you ever learn anything about yourself through playing a game?

First Look: 'Mafia II' -- The Sleeper Hit Of 2009?

Like that shiny pot o’ gold at the end of the double rainbow, the weekend is glittering on the horizon, and that means two things: 1) Refuge from Stephen “Life Lessons” Johnson for a few fleeting hours, and 2) weekend gaming. I don’t know how much I’m going to get in, but I finally got around to starting Mafia II, and aside from the facial animations in the cutscenes, I’m really digging it so far. I was a big fan of the first game, and actually, hearing some of the songs from Mafia in the sequel was a very pleasant surprise. I’m also loving Ragdoll Blaster 2 for iPhone. Tons of levels, great physics puzzles, and an amazing score. It’s free right now, so definitely pick it up.

What about you? What are you playing this weekend?

Sly collection

I think Sony really did a disservice to the recently released Sly Collection by putting it up against Call of Duty: Black Ops last week. I mean, this week isn’t much better between Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, but against a new Call of Duty? No chance. Which is really a shame, because I’ve been looking forward to the Sly Collection since it was first announced, primarily because it’s one of those series that I never played as a kid even though I’d always wanted to. I plan on getting cracking on it soon, so expect a full “Climbing Through the Shame Pile” follow up soon. What I want to know this morning though is something pretty straightforward:

How many of you picked up/plan to pick up the Sly Collection? Will it be anyone else’s first time through the games too? Aside from the ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection, any other remake collections you’d like to see?

Borderlands

Sorry to be totally random this morning, but I was putting together this article about downloadable content, and I had to look up a bunch of stuff about Borderlands, a game that everyone raves about, but that I just never got around to playing. I always wanted to, especially because the world and style are so up my alley, and any time I come across anything Borderlands related I get the urge to go back and find out what I missed out on.

So I guess what I’m asking is: I need to play Borderlands, don’t I? What have been some other games that you missed when they first came out but eventually got around to playing? Did you find it to be a rewarding decision?

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit

Over the weekend, I tried out a racing wheel peripheral we had here at the office, and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It was the first one I’ve ever really tried out outside of an arcade, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to, but it did get me thinking about racing games and racing game peripherals. And since Criterion Games’ fantastic Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit hits shelves today I figured now would be as good a time as any to find out just how popular wheel controllers are among devoted racing game fans.

How many of you use wheel peripherals on a regular basis to play racing games? Which ones do you prefer? Are you better with the wheel or a standard controller? Are there any particular games that you’d rather play using a wheel?

Who Played The Dogs Out? The Realistic Dogs of Gaming Fallout 3 Dogmeat

I spent the past week or so fully immersed in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (check back tomorrow for my review!), and so I’ve been thinking a lot lately about open world games and all of the gameplay and narrative elements that factor into their design. But since I can’t talk about Brotherhood until tomorrow, I figured I’d ask you all to talk a little about some of your favorite open worlds and what you find particularly appealing or fun about them. Between AC: Brotherhood, Red Dead Redemption, Fallout: New Vegas, and Mafia II, just to name a few, there certainly haven’t been a shortage of them this year.

So, what is your favorite open world game setting and why?

Rock Band 3

I'm going to spend my weekend playing Rock Band 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops... and, as always, Minecraft! I also plan on borrowing a bunch of Kinect games and seeing if I can find something (anything!) in the launch lineup that really rules. Will it be Dance Central?

What about you? What are you playing this weekend?

Ubisoft Announces Your Shape: Fitness Evolved for Kinect

I'm sure you picture TheFeed's staff as handsome, fit, debonair fellows and ladies, but believe it or not, many of us are fat and/or pasty. Shocker! It's an occupational hazard. Perhaps, though, we will find the solution within the problem and get fit using the new crop of motion games coming out for the Kinect and Move.

Before we do, though, let me ask you guys: Have any of you had any experience losing weight/getting fit with motion control games? Any tips? ... and don't tell me to eat less and exercise more; I know that!

Video Kinect's Body Tracking & Video Shared Viewing

I don't know if it was the enthusiastic response around the office, the blush of new technology, or a successful marketing campaign, but I bought a Kinect yesterday. I happily hooked the device up to my 360, flawlessly set it up, calibrated it and played Kinect Adventures with my kid. In 20 minutes or so, we were both bored.

As our reviews have pointed out, the technology is amazing.  The thing works as advertised. But now what?

Rather than try to wring fun out of my new webcam, I went back to playing Call of Duty: Black Ops, using the Kinect instead of my headset. Dance Central is on its way, so hopefully that title will answer the question that keeps running through my head: "What am I going to do with this thing?"

First Call of Duty: Black Ops Nintendo DS Details Revealed

We're all about Call of Duty: Black Ops this morning. We've given it a hugely positive review, showed off the first 15 minutes of Black Ops gameplay, let you in on some CoD: Black Ops secrets, compared the 360 version of Black Ops to the PlayStation 3 version of Black Ops, and gave you a history of the Call of Duty franchise. So you know where we stand on Call of Duty: Black Ops. But what about you?

Now that the game is on store shelves, what do you think?

Fallout: New Vegas Preorder Bonus Packs Detailed

I spent the weekend deeply immersed in Fallout: New Vegas. As I traveled the wasteland, I was accompanied by my loyal henchwoman, Rose of Sharon Cassidy, although I prefer her nickname, Whiskey Rose. Rose is probably my favorite ancillary character in gaming. Her hardscrabble backstory and love of liquor are just endearing as hell, plus, the sight of two heavily armed women in cowboy hats walking down a dusty road is like some Thelma and Louise crap!  I almost feel disloyal to Charron, my ghoul man-servant from Fallout 3.

How about you? Do you have a favorite henchman? Did you play anything good this weekend?

Dance Central

Another glorious Friday is upon us (well, there’s still a full day of work to get through, but you get the idea), and that means its time to start thinking about what games we’re going to cue up for this weekend. Rearranging your living room to get in some quality time with Dance Central? Gearing up for the imminent release of Call of Duty: Black Ops by participating in some lightning sessions of Modern Warfare 2? Finally getting around to three-starring those last remaining Angry Birds levels?

Tell us, won’t you?
