TV Series Planned For The Sandman: Can It Work?

It seems that everyone's favorite Goth-inspired REM deity is the latest comic book property to be swept-up by Hollywood. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neil Gaiman's cult series The Sandman is in the early developmental stages of a TV adaptation. While details are still unknown regarding the show's format or even what network it will call home, the report lists Supernatural creator Eric Kripke as a top candidate to take the reigns of Morpheus' surreal adventures. While this is hardly the first time that show business has set its sights on the series, with a long-proposed film and HBO TV series which never made it past any productive stages, the Kripke rumors is backed by reports of his interest in the project. At this point, there is no word if creator Neil Gaiman will have any involvement.

More Fantastic Four Reboot Rumors: Bruce Willis, Kiefer Sutherland?

After a long period of silence regarding any news, we suddenly find ourselves floating in casting rumors for the upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four film franchise. After learning last week, who may be up in contention to play 3/4 of of iconic irradiated super-team, the weekend brought some revelations about the CGI represented character in The Thing, along with our first possible candidate for the team's ultimate villain in Doctor Doom. The sudden explosion of these rumors may be an indication that Fox has kicked things into high gear to assure that the film meets its projected release for the comic book film-heavy Summer of 2012 movie season. While deciding to go up against Sony's Spider-Man reboot and Marvel's ambitious mega-film The Avengers may seem like someone at Fox didn't get a critical memo about the competition, it seems that the plan to counter these surefire hits may be pure, unadulterated star power.

Marvel To Bring Iron Fist To The Big Screen

It seems that plans for Marvel Studios to churn out more superhero movies are not restricted to the top tier of the comic universe' line-up. The latest project to be brought to the forefront is Marvel's mystic martial arts master Iron Fist. After spending the last decade in developmental limbo, the long-rumored project will finally see the light of day, with writer Rich Wilkes (xXx) brought on board. Interestingly enough, with the number of pictures quickly whittling-down, Marvel Studios' distribution deal with Paramount would likely end with The Avengers in 2012. Therefore, provided the Dr. Strange project doesn't get fast-tracked, this positions Iron Fist to be the first Marvel Studios film to be released under the direct banner of Disney. (Who after a recent $4 billion purchase, now own Marvel's vast comic properties.)

Casting Rumors Hit For The Fantastic Four Reboot

It's been a quite a while since we've heard any news about the long-proposed reboot of the Fantastic Four films. However, don't let the silence fool you, it's alive and without fear of a field already crowded with heavy comic book movie players, still plans for a summer 2012 release. Currently under the working title Fantastic Four: Reborn, casting rumors have already exploded. The most prominent of those rumors are surrounding who will be the new Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic. With actors Adrien Brody (top-left) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (top-right) named in a recent report by Screenrant, it seems that this new rendition of the Baxter Building's resident foursome may reflect a more refined tone than its predecessor, in which the role was played by Ioan Gruffudd. Oh, but wait, there's a lot more vague reports of names added to the list of potential cast members to this reboot that surely...someone apparently felt was necessary. Let's take a look!

Discussion: X-Men First Class Gets Groovy In The 60's

Over the weekend we've gotten the first bit of news about X-Men: First Class that didn't involve yet another addition to its already scale-tipped cast. After a talk with the film's former director and current producer in Bryan Singer, Ain't it Cool News reported some crucial details about the plot of director Mathew Vaughn's upcoming reboot of the X-Men film franchise. Not only is its status as a reboot (which was generally presumed for some time now,) officially confirmed, but the film will be set to take place not in today's environment, but back in the early 1960's. In a move that may satisfy hardcore canon purists, the shifting of the storyline to a Bay of Pigs/dawn of Beatlemania time-frame will actually serve as a throwback to the time in which the X-Men comic book was originally published.

Spider-Man Reboot Narows-Down Love Interests: Who Should Get It?

Like it or not, Sony Pictures is gearing up to shove an all-new rendition of the Spider-Man film franchise into theaters for Summer of 2012. With the selection of Andrew Garfield as our new Wall-Crawler made months ago, and rumors flying about the identity of the film's villain(s), it seems that things are now focused on our hero's potential love interest. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in a process similar to the one that gave us Garfield, Sony has narrowed down the field of Hollywood's young up-and-coming actresses to a slim six. If the duo of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in the previous incarnation proved anything (for better or worse,) it's that finding the right chemistry between the film's couple is a crucial science that walks the line of comic relief as an accessible path to the audience's empathy. Will any of these women have the ability to pull off such a feat with Andrew Garfield?

Update: Did Alice Eve Ditch The X-Men For The Avengers?

Update: With Mad Men star January Jones seemingly set for the role in X-Men: First Class which was once a solid lock for Alice Eve, it raised questions as to where the She's Out of My League star stood in terms of Mathew Vaughn's upcoming franchise reboot. Well, it seems that the folks over at ComicBookMovie may have just shed some light over First Class' Emma Frost casting debacle. According to one of their sources, after disagreements over script changes, Eve actually requested a release from her contract. Given the fact that we now have January Jones, that request was apparently granted. However, that's not even the big news. CBM also reports that Alice Eve may be courted away from the Fox-run X-Men film by Marvel Studios for a role in the upcoming crossover extravaganza The Avengers.

X-Men: First Class Adds January Jones...And A Lot Of Confusion

If you were under the same impression as just about everyone else that X-Men: First Class had already found its Emma Frost in She's Out of My League's Alice Eve -- think again! According to a report from Deadline, the role of the X-Universe's sexy lingerie-wearing telepath has been given to Mad Men star January Jones. Best known as the acclaimed series' scorned Stepford-esque domestic diva Betty Draper (now Francis,) Jones will have to make a mighty u-turn from her signature character's inhibited nature and become the manipulative and powerful seductress also known as The White Queen, oozing sexuality on screen. As if the whirlwind casting process of this film had not been enough of a conundrum, we're undoubtedly left scratching our heads right now.

X-Men: First Class Adds Oliver Platt

The cast of X-Men: First Class continues to absorb and consume a good percentage of Hollywood's actors. The latest victim, if you will, is veteran actor Oliver Platt. According to Deadline, Platt has joined the cast to play a character who is described as a "non-mutant" called The Man in Black. (Holy Damon Lindelof, Batman!) No other details have emerged as to the scope of his role, but the fact that a respected actor of Platt's caliber has been cast is probably indicative of it being critical to the plot. Platt will join a cast lead by James McAvoy's Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Kevin Bacon's unnamed villain, and a myriad of others. In fact, just over the weekend, Jason Flemyng was also added to play the Nightcrawler-esque teleporting mutant, Azazel. Yup, it's getting a bit crowded in the Danger Room.
