Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Activision and Beenox plan on making the first details of the next Spider-Man game known to the public on April 1st. The date wasn't chosen because the whole announcement is a prank; instead, it's right in the middle of New York's WonderCon comic book show, the perfect place to drop word on Spidey's upcoming game. (Lest you think I have some advance word, that's a picture from Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions above.)

Here's the official description

4:30-5:30 Activision Spider-Man— Marvel, Activision, and acclaimed developer Beenox are headed to WonderCon with all-new Spider-Man videogame content! First, take a tour with Beenox down memory lane of the award-winning Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and discuss their post-launch reactions and what key learnings from the fans they are applying to future games. Next, be the first to check out exclusive details, screenshots and videos of the next Spider-Man game, with game development talent from Beenox, acclaimed Marvel writer Peter David (co-creator of Spider-Man 2099), voiceover talent Josh Keaton (voice of Spider-Man in The Spectacular Spider-Manand Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions) and Marvel’s VP of games production, TQ Jefferson. Room 103

Shattered Dimensions was universally lauded as a great game, shocking given Spidey's history with gaming, so I can only imagine that the sequel has similar "core" aspirations. Let's hope so. As of right now, we can't tell you anything else, except that Activision made a good decision to stick with Beenox for the next game, and that April 1 will bring more news. Stay tuned. Excelsior!

The Walking Dead Video Game: Robert Kirkman Speaks

Quickly becoming a cross-media pop-culture phenom, we learned last month that The Walking Dead would be making the inevitable jump to video games. Now, Robert Kirkman, creator of the original comic book and the highly-popular TV series has dropped some details on the upcoming shambling-shooter of a game. Set for a release this Fall to coincide with the return of the TV series for its second season, Telltale Games, best known for adventure games like Sam & Max and the recent Back to the Future, will soon release The Walking Dead as an episodic game, running multi-platform. In an interesting twist, the game will actually adhere to the canon of the comic series, rather than the acclaimed TV series on which it's tentpolled. While no substantive details have been released about the game, Kirkman does make some promises about where it's heading. Hint: It will involve a lot of gory messes.

Rage Comic Series Announced

It seems that upcoming id Software first person shooter RAGE will be hitting another platform besides the consoles, PC, and Mac; this time on a comic book. Whetting the appetites of the PAX East atmosphere, Publisher Bethesda Softworks made the announcement of a partnership with Dark Horse Comics to adapt the post-apocalyptic frag-fest that will serve as the spiritual successor of classics like Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake. The three issue comic series will be a prequel to game's storyline in which an asteroid-devastated Earth in the near future has become a horrid wasteland under the tyrannical control of a global military dictatorship called The Authority. The game's creative director Tim Willits is on board the comic, with writer Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi) and penciller Andrea Mutti (DMZ) in a storyline promising "a new twist" on the typical futuristic survival drama. Check out the full promotional image below.

X-Men : First Class Trailer Hits

The debut trailer for X-Men: First Class has arrived! After Fox tormented fans all day by coming through quite late with the promise of posting the heavily-anticipated trailer on the film's Facebook page, the clip has finally made its debut. What we've heard so far about the film depicting the beginnings of the X-Men team, set in 1962 has been puzzling considering its cast of characters. The folks behind the film have been quite clear that, despite some pretty gaping anachronistic character appearances, this would still be a direct prequel to the X-Men films of Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner, which were also branched-off in Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. So, how will this prequel helmed by Kick-Ass director Mathew Vaughn stack-up in a field of comic book movies that's heating-up in 2011 and will only explode in 2012? Let's get a look!

The Avengers To Be Joined By Quasar?

It seems that the cast of The Avengers could continue to grow. News is going around about a supposed prematurely-leaked press release which names actor Kevin Pennington (Horrible Bosses, 90210, Miss March) as the newest addition to the mega-cast, playing S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Wendell Vaughn. Of course, to comic fans, that name may ring a bell as the alter-ego of Marvel's cosmic-powered enforcer Quasar. Coming just days after the legitimate reports of Cobie Smulders being in final negotiations for the role of Agent Maria Hill, the alleged addition of Pennington, is nevertheless still an unconfirmed rumor. So, with still no signs of cameos by signature Avengers founding members Ant-Man or Wasp for the film, could Marvel be going overboard in stacking this film with obscure comic nods?
