I don't know about you, but I alway lose my remote control. So this morning's announcement that Netflix is adding Kinect support is like a message from God for me. Kinect support for Netflix will allows consumers to watch content streaming from Netflix with just the wave of their hand and sound of their voice. You'll be able to download the update, the next time you log on to your 360.

“By integrating Kinect into the Netflix experience on Xbox Live, we’re continuing to transform the way people enjoy their favorite entertainment in the living room,” said Pete Thompson, General Manager, Xbox Live. “Since its launch, Netflix has always been one of the most popular services on Xbox Live, so we are excited to deliver a brand new way to control this experience in a way that can’t be found anywhere else.”

Child of Eden's Corset Peripheral Revealed

Upcoming Move and Kinect-powered abstract game Child of Eden is the spiritual successor of PS2 classic Rez. Just as Rez had an inexplicable add-on peripheral (a vibrator timed to the music in the game), Child of Eden has an inexplicable attachment as well -- a vibrating corset.

According to Child of Eden's creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, speaking at Kapow! Comic Con, the CoE corset holds four  controllers, which all  vibrate in time to the music. Sounds...stimulating. Sadly, the corset will probably never leave the developer's office -- I seriously doubt Ubisoft would bankroll the production and release of such an esoteric device. We're left, instead, with a tantalizing vision of what could be: See photo above.

I've been following the development of Child of Eden since it was announced. The innovative game aims to mix the trance-y gameplay of PlayStation 2 classic Rez with the control scheme of the Kinect and Move. If that's not innovation, I don't know what is.  It comes out on June 14.

Check it out in action, and tell me if you're on the Child of Eden train.

With the launch of the Nintendo 3DS following the launches of both the Kinect and Playstation Move, there seems to be an influx of new gaming technology. While sales of these new pieces of hardware seem successful, the question is do they enhance our gaming experience? In this week's Soapbox, Adam expresses his confusion over these new gadgets and his fears that the gaming industry is putting technology before creativity.

Rise of Nightmares Details Revealed

Back in September, at the Tokyo Game Show,  we revealed the existence of a Kinect-powered horror title Rise of Nightmares. Since then: Nothing. Until today, when leaked ESRB ratings information gives us a window into this slightly mysterious title.

First off, it's rated M. In spite of Kinect's kiddy-reputation, at least this one game is aimed only at adults It's going to be gory and "sexy" with female monsters appearing with pasties covering their nipply-bits. We also learned that Rise of Nightmares is a first-person game.

Here's a description of the game's plot:

"This is a horror-adventure game in which players assume the role of an American tourist who must rescue his wife from a deranged scientist."

The Eye Of Sauron has been created using a Microsoft Kinect. A UK tech company called The Technology Studio have given life to The Lord of the Rings' main boss, Sauron. They used a Pufferfish sphere called a Puffersphere to project the eye and the Kinect's motion sensing camera to follow you. I'm a Kinect owner who rarely uses my Kinect but I always have it plugged in. As such I often feel like the Kinect is watching me as it moves when I walk by. With this hack, I will no longer think its watching me, instead I will know the vengeful Eye of Sauron is watching, waiting, plotting against me.

Source: The Technology Studio, they also posted a How-To.

Microsoft's Kinect has been modded to work with Sony's PlayStation 3. The console that does everything is now Kinect compatible, after you do a bunch of hacking that is. "Kinect PS3" was designed more as a proof-of-concept than a functioning mod, so it's a work in progress -- It's still pre-alpha and the software is lacking some recent codes.

Given how Microsoft has been embracing Kinect mods, do you think their stance will change now that PS3 functionality is possible?  For that matter, The programmer, shantzg00, posted instructions on how to perform the mod on his blog, do you think Sony will have a problem with it?
