Interview with COD: Black Ops Composer Sean Murray

Sean Murray is the man behind the music of Call of Duty: Black Ops. The Feed recently got a chance to talk with Sean about what went into the creation of the music for the game, its soundtrack album, and some of the other projects he has composed for, including a previous entry in the COD franchise and a TV show about a teenage vampire slayer. We also got the details on a live orchestra performance of Murray's Black Ops music, along with other game themes, happening next week. And while there are no music-based perks in Black Ops multiplayer (really, there should be!) The Feed has deployed some sounds from the game in the interview for your listening enjoyment.

The Hardest Level In Video Game History: Pro Guitar Dragon Force In Rock Band 3

Ok, hardcore, up-for-any-challenge gamers out there, next week will mark the release of the greatest challenge in video game history. Harder than Ninja Gaiden, Paper Boy and Battletoads combined. Next week's Rock Band 3 DLC will include "Through The Fire and Flames: by technical heavy metal band DragonForce -- on Pro Guitar.

Even the greatest Guitar Hero players found the song a challenge on Expert when it was released for that game. I feel confident in saying that no one will be able to 100 percent this particular track using Pro Guitar mode. You will cry, I promise you.

Check out the song on an ancient episode of Attack of the Show for an idea of how insanely hard it is to play.

The video, "White Knuckles," features the band interacting with a bunch of trained dogs in an insanely choreographed dance routine. It's very impressive, especially with the added dimension provided by the 3DS.

You can watch the 2D movie under the cut, or just wait until Sunday, when you'll be able to watch OK Go in glorious 3D, once you download and install the update.

Rock Band 3 was the first game that really taught gamers how to actually learn to play instruments, and the Squier Stratocaster is one more step in the right direction. Video Game Grammy: Civilization 4 Song Wins Grammy

Seeing as how “Awards Season” comes to a close tonight with the Academy Awards, it seems an appropriate time as any to bring this up for consideration for next year. Because history was made at one of  this year’s other big trophy-fests, the Grammy Awards, when a piece of music originally composed for a video game won an award; the first time music created for a game has received such an honor. The award bestowed upon Christopher Tin was a milestone moment and a beginning, a beginning from which other artists who bring game audio to life deserve to be honored, a beginning which couldn’t have happened if not for a push for recognition for game music that began over a decade ago.

King Diamond Guitar Hero Metallica

There are many opinions on the internet about the death of the Guitar Hero franchise, but one important person calls it a blatant case of abuse! Kelly Summer, former CEO of developer RedOctane, says,"They abused it. There’s no reason why Guitar Hero cannot continue. It’s a great product. My gut tells me there is still a significant market for Guitar Hero. Not every game can be a billion dollar franchise, but maybe that’s what Activision wants.“

“Look at how Take-Two has handled GTA. They haven’t thrown products out there. They’ve nurtured it for over ten years and it is still a strong franchise,"  Summer said.

As for the future of the Guitar Hero brand name, Summer isn't expecting a resurrection under a different company's direction. "I’d be surprised if they sold the brand as it’d prove to the world there is still a market for this product and show them up," Summer said.

Guitar Hero 5

We know that Activision dissolved the Guitar Hero division of their company last week, as well as canceling any Guitar Hero games for 2011, but how dead is the franchise, really? That's a topic for debate. You'll still be able to play a new version of Guitar Hero on the just-announced Xperia Play phone.

Although Guitar Hero was mentioned as one of 50 games that will be playable in the phone's launch window, no details on the new version of the music game were revealed. If I were you, I'd expect it to be a port of an older Guitar Hero games as opposed to something new.
