Music

The video below is hype for upcoming video game Power Gig: Rise of the Sixstring. It is awesome, and features a ton of plastic video game guitars being dropped into an active volcano. An actual active volcano, people! This is the kind of marketing I stand behind 100 percent.

Alan Wake

The Feed recently caught up with composer Petri Alanko to talk about his soundtrack for Alan Wake.  This being Alanko’s first foray into the videogame music realm, we wanted to find out what his music background is and what inspired him in the creation of the aural atmosphere of Alan Wake.  While The Feed wasn’t suffering from writer’s block like Alan Wake, we didn’t want to spend time alone around Cauldron Lake either, so The Feed abducted a few readers to help with interviewing Alanko.  Click and come inside to see if your question made the cut.

Guitar Hero

Rockers and/or rollers who purchase Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will receive a CD of Soundgarden's new album, Telephantasm: A Retrospective. In other news, they still make CDs. In other, other news, Soundgarden has re-formed.

Soundgarden's album is not slated to hit stores until October 5, and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock comes out on September 28, so for that week, the only people who hear the new tunes will be Guitar Hero owners. And their friends. And people who know how Bittorrent works. Or anyone who has the older Soundgarden albums: 12 of Telephantasm's 13 tracks are from older releases.

Discussion: The American Idol Judges Shake-Up

By now, you've probably heard the devastating, Earth-shattering news, which will affect the lives of people around the globe: Ellen Degenres and Kara DioGuardi are OUT as judges on American Idol. (We'll give you a moment to compose yourselves.)

After Simon Cowell called it quits from the show after the completion of the most recent season, the scramble to shake the show up was a task that became equivalent to trying to sell tickets to a fun park that lost its best rides. Shortly after bringing back executive producer (and So You Think You Can Dance? judge and show boss) Nigel Lythgoe, the agenda of getting the judging panel straightened out had quickly been put into overdrive. And just as we've learned about the exit of two of the show's judges, strong rumors are pointing to their replacements being Jennifer Lopez and iconic Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

So, let's get a discussion going: Is American Idol salvageable? Is there anyone out there that can fill the shoes stuffed with un-cashed million-dollar checks of Simon Cowell?

Rock Band 3

MTV Games revealed a bunch of tracks coming to music game Rock Band 3, as well as some more of the music that will be featured in Kinect-powered movement game Dance Central. The Rock Band tracks run the stylistic gamut from Marilyn Manson's "Beautiful People" to Foreigner's "Cold as Ice," but seem heavy on the nostalgia....

As far as the Dance Central tracks, they are all excellent pop hip-hop. Just what you'd want in a silly dance game.
