Black Ops 2 Revolution Map Pack Details Slip Out

The first DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 came to Xbox 360 in late-January 2013, and Activision now confirms that PlayStation 3 and PC versions will follow suit at the end of this month. The Revolution DLC pack hits those platforms on February 28, 2013, though there's no mention in the press release of Wii U release plans.

This Revolution pack is fairly full-featured as far as Call of Duty DLC goes. You get four multiplayer maps, a new Zombies map, a new Zombies versus mode that pits player-humans against player-zombies, and a new gun, the Peacekeeper SMG. It's a solid collection of stuff provided that you like to do Call of Duty things outside the campaign.

Deadpool

Activision's upcoming Deadpool game from High Moon Studios will be coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms sometime during summer 2013. A final date hasn't been announced yet, but a comic book ad spotted by Deadpool Bugle (via Joystiq) confirms the summer window.

We haven't seen much yet from the Deadpool game, though High Moon has proven itself as a reliable developer when it comes to bringing geek-friendly properties into the interactive space. Transformers: War For Cybertron and Fall Of Cybertron were both good-to-strong and the flawed The Bourne Conspiracy at least brought some cool ideas.

It sounds like Deadpool will be embracing a straightforward third-person action focus, though the key to nailing that character coorectly hinges on getting the writing and performance right. Expect to hear more about this one as the trade show season spools up this year.

Crysis 3 "Sharp Dressed Man" Trailer »

This latest 'Sharp Dressed Man' trailer for Crysis 3 (via All Games Beta) goes for cheap laughs, and that's fine. We've heard all we're going to hear by now about the game's play, features, and focus. The only thing left is to show you how badass it can be to run around in a Nanosuit. There's even a moment where Prophet mugs for the camera while a helicopter he shot an explosive arrow into explodes behind him.

Really though, this trailer was a win from the moment that ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" was chosen to play on top of the footage. Nothing says "holy crap, this guy can kick some tail" more than a blues-rock band filled out by dudes with beards longer than your arm. Crysis 3 comes to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows platforms on February 19, 2013.

New Batman: Arkham City Screenshot And Artwork

Rocksteady Studios has kept quiet so far about its expected Batman: Arkham City follow-up, but new information from higher in the Warner food chain suggests that the unannounced game is coming this year. Time Warner chief financial officer John K. Martin let the detail slip during the company's latest investor call (via Kotaku).

Martin's statement is pretty clear on the facts: "And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise." There's been no confirmation from publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, though Arkham recently popped up on the gaming press radar when Warner registered a chunk of related domains in January 2013.

Star Trek The Game "Salvation" Gameplay Trailer »

The latest trailer for Star Trek is here! Titled 'Salvation,' this brief look at the game is actually a pretty dynamite assortment of gameplay clips the breathe and bleed Trek (via All Games Beta). You've got phaser blasts flying to and fro, and transporter moment, and Spock's iconic Vulcan Nerve Pinch.

Digital Extremes' Trek game attempts to fill in the narrative gap between J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot and this spring's Star Trek Into Darkness, which hits theaters on May 17, 2013. Star Trek (the game, not the movie) comes to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows platforms just a few weeks earlier, on April 23, 2013.

Bungie's Destiny Story Points, Concept Art Leaks

Brace yourselves, Bungie fans: Destiny is imminent. The long-in-development first post-Halo effort for the studio has been the subject of teases and leaks for some time, but it seems that a proper reveal may be less than a week away. A newly launched website at alphalupi.bungie.net appears to be part-countdown clock, part alternate reality game.

It seems that, starting yesterday, there will be seven days worth of puzzles posted. If the first day is any indication, each day's puzzle leads to a page bearing the Destiny logo and some text. The first day has already been solved over on Reddit (see the solution page right here), and a community effort has already mobilized to see the rest of this ARG through.

Chris Taylor's Gas Powered Games Announces New RPG

Chris Taylor and Gas Powered Games made a valiant effort to save Gas Powered Games using Kickstarter, but the crowdfunding initiatve for Wildman has now officially been halted. With two days to go in the funding period and slightly less than half of the $1.1 million goal earned, the studio is calling it quits on the campaign.

All is not lost for Gas Powered Games, not yet. An update on the Kickstarter page announcing the cancellation lays everything out. "At this point, it makes sense for us to focus our attention on other ways to keeep Gas Powered Games running. Unfortunately, we are unable to share any specifics in public. When we have news to share, we will be posting it on our site."

So it sounds like there's more to come from the Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander studio. The final Kickstarter concludes with a somewhat cryptic thank you: "Your passion and hard work put us in a position to write this exciting new chapter in the history of GPG." Fans are invited to continue discussing Wildman in the Gas Powered Games forums.

Tomb Raider "Monastery to Medical Helicopter" Walkthrough Video Part 1 »

Lara Croft isn't going to have an easy time in Tomb Raider, as this new 11-minute clip of gameplay footage demonstrates. She runs, she shoots, she sneaks, she leaps, scales, and shimmies, but she's also slowed down by nagging wounds and susceptible to hazards both natural and human-made.

Watch along above as Lara carves an unlikely -- and partially unintentional -- route down a mountain for herself, transitioning from typical running and platforming to being carried along by a rushing river to a last-minute parachute save. The descent ends up aggravating wounds sustained earlier, leaving the heroine hobbled and cut off from her traversal abilities.

Tomb Raider is shapping up to be quite an intense experience, twisting the core ideas of the series for a much darker and more hopeless adventure. Then again, this is Lara Croft we're talking about. Don't ever count her out. Tomb Raider arrives on March 5, 2013.

Resident Evil: Revelations

Some new information has come out about the platform-specific features in the upcoming Wii U version of Resident Evil: Revelations, a console port of the Nintendo 3DS release that is also headed to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A 10-page feature in the latest issue of Official Nintendo Magazine (via Nintendo Insider) helps to set player expectations appropriately, which is to say: don't expect much beyond a direct port with some visual enhancements.

The Wii U version offers some hardware-exclusive updates thanks to the unique qualities of the tablet-like GamePad. The big one is support for off-TV play, which means that users can stream the content over to their GamePad screen via their local network. The Wii U release also offers touchscreen-based inventory access and map controls as well as support for the Wii U Pro Controller.

Producer Tsukasa Takenaka also says a bit about how graphics have been improved for the new platforms. "All of the lighting effects and filters have been rebuilt from the ground up, which improves the general quality of the environments. If you’ve played the 3DS version, the difference should be apparent in the first 10 minutes of the game." Resident Evil: Revelations expands to a whole new set of platforms on May 21, 2013.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen "New Enemies" Gameplay Trailer »

Capcom's latest trailer for Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen shows off some of the expanded game's new monsters in action. The backing voiceover is all in Japanese, but the trailer's gameplay clips speak the universal language of "hey, doesn't this nasty monster-thing look badass?"

There are fire salamanders, hopping maggot-like creatures, a nasty-looking minotaur, a super-sized reaper, and a towering giant that vaguely resembles Soulcalibur's Astaroth. Dark Arisen expands on Capcom's 2012 game with new content and gameplay enhancements that address criticisms directed at the original release.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen arrives on April 23, 2013 as a $39.99 release available at both retail and the PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 online stores.

Warface

Crytek's goal is to fully embrace free-to-play business models for all of its games within the next two to five years, according to CEO Cevat Yerli in an interview with GamesBeat. The developer that earned its reputation from the first Far Cry and, later, the first Crysis sees potential for PC and console platforms both in the increasingly popular pricing structure that generates revenue via in-game microtransactions.

"We decided five or six years ago that we want to marry the quality of triple-A games with the business model of free-to-play," Yerli said. "And out of that position, Gface and Warface were born. And at that time, we decided some other games, in some of our other studios, would head in this direction." The changeover won't be immediate due to the developer's current commitments, but the aim is to deliver high-quality F2P experiences for all platforms.

"So we have quite a few console titles in our pipeline that are [traditional retail games] while we investigate free-to-play on consoles," Yerli added. "But our primary goal is to make triple-A free-to-play games for the world market and transition entirely to that."

Electronic Arts confirms that an apparent Dead Space 3 glitch allowing for easy resource farming is not a glitch and won't be patched out of the game. The publisher has taken some flak recently for the use of microtransactions in the Visceral Games release that allows players to spend actual dollars on in-game resources. An EA rep notes that resource farming is an intended feature, so there's nothing to fix.

"The resource-earning mechanic in Dead Space 3 is not a glitch. We have no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game," EA's Jino Talens said in a statement to GameFront. "We encourage players to explore the game and discover the areas where resources respawn for free. We’ve deliberately designed Dead Space 3 to allow players to harvest resources by playing through the game."

"For those that wish to accumulate upgrades instantly, we have enabled an optional system for them to buy the resources at a minimal cost ($1-$3)."

Aliens Colonial Marines

The very telling evidence is accurate: Aliens: Colonial Marines will be supported by Gearbox Software with enough post-release content to merit a Season Pass (via Sega Blog). The $30 token will be good for four content packs in all, with the first one -- Bug Hunt -- coming in March 2013. The Season Pass will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC; no mention of Wii U.

Bug Hunt is a Horde-like co-op mode that plays out on three mode-specific maps. There isn't any mention of player count for this mode, but expect it to be four based on the way campaign and the No Escape co-op mode work. Three additional DLC packs will follow Bug Hunt, with the final one to be released by or before August 2013.

Epic Games Welcomes Infinity Blade: Dungeons Dev Impossible Studios

Sad news for yet another talented game developer: Impossible Studios, the Epic Games-owned team made up of former Big Huge Games staffers, is no more. Impossible had been put to work on the Diablo-esque mobile title Infinity Blade: Dungeons after it formed in 2012, but the closing of the studio means that the game is now officially on hold.

"It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn't working out for Epic," Epic founder Tim Sweeney said in a statement. "This means that Infinity Blade: Dungeons is now on hold as we figure out the future of the project."

Sweeney added that all Impossible staffers will receive three months of severance and the opportunity to continue using the Impossible name and logo in the event that they'd want to re-establish the studio independently.
