Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot Gets New Release Date

It appears that the upcoming Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot film will be emerging further down the pipeline than previously scheduled. Last set for May 16, 2014, the yet-to-be-titled franchise film revival is now set to emerge from its proverbial manhole on June 6, 2014.

For a project that has been delayed several times and at one point was even marked for Christmas 2013, the three-week move is probably not a huge deal. However, it is noteworthy that the May 16 date would have put it in direct debut competition with the Warner Bros. Godzilla reboot project starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, and Elizabeth Olsen. At the moment, June 6 should leave the mutated...err, alien reptilian foursome relatively unopposed from the initial wave of summer movie heavy hitters like Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2), and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (May 23).

Yet, at the same time, the June 6 move jeopardizes its potential box-office longevity, putting it in competition with second wave summer heavies like Jurassic Park 4 (June 13), How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 20), and, ironically enough, Michael Bay's other baby, Transformers 4 (June 27). The move was certainly a calculated gamble by Paramount.

One thing is for sure, when Nickelodeon laid down a cool $60 million back in 2009 to purchase the TMNT franchise, they came up with a carefully planned strategy to gets this franchise back to its early 1990's glory days. With the current animated series renewed for a second AND third season, it's clear that they have a lot riding on this tent-pole. The acquisition of a name like Michael Bay (even in just a producer capacity) and now the recent addition of Megan Fox to the cast seems to telegraph their desire to use the monolithically successful Transformers formula of old-school franchise revival. (Explosions, hot chicks in slow motion, ubiquitous product placement, followed by more explosions.)

Will it work? Well, that all depends on how this whole "Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles" angle ultimately plays out.

Megan Fox Joins Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot

It appears that the upcoming Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot project, tentatively titled, Ninja Turtles, will be a reunion of sorts. Bay himself has confirmed on his website that the one and only Megan Fox will return to "the family," cast in the reptilian reboot film. The (extremely strong) assumption is that she will play the Turtles' cute and constantly-kidnapped cohort, April O'Neil.

Indeed, the casting news falls within the "hell has frozen over" category, especially after the highly-publicized "he said, she said" behind-the-scenes drama between Fox and director, Bay on the set of his 2009 franchise sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Long story short, they found each other incredibly-impossible to work with, culminating in Fox making a serious infraction of Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies when the inked-up ingenue dropped the "H" word when referring to Bay.

Now, four long years later, the sexy starlet, since then becoming a wife and mother, has let this rivalry, much like Jennifer's Body and Jonah Hex, fizzle out. Now back under the Bay tent-pole, she could be gearing up for a career comeback of sorts, possibly playing the iconic TV reporter with a thing for giant anthropomorphic turtles...and occasionally, vigilantes in hockey masks.

With that being said, the Transformers trustee is still only serving in the capacity of producer for this TMNT reboot, which, according to Bay, will depict the foursome being reinvented as aliens. -- Yeah. So, while the reunion with Hollywood's auteur of explosions seems to indicate the hatchet has been buried, Fox will nevertheless be working with a more immediate overseer in director, Jonathan Liebesman. (Wrath of the Titans, Battle Los Angeles.)

Ninja Turtles busts out of alien space sewers for pizzas covered in pineapple, marshmallow, and anchovies at theaters on May 16, 2014.

Necomimi Cat Ears Bring Red Hot Love For Valentine's Day

Heads up! Or WARNING! Valentine's Day is tomorrow and if you've got a significant other, you better be ready! Thankfully, this year's options go beyond the expected box of chocolates, card and flowers. Why not go for Necomimi Brainwave Cat Ears?

(If not, then we need to talk and you'll most likely be single by February 15th.)

We're kind of obsessed with Necomimi ears so we came up with a list of reasons about why you should invest in a pair of moveable ears for Valentine's Day.

1. Express your love and affection in an original and quirky manner than just saying "I love you." Necomimi Ears use brainwave technology to move and wiggle based on your level of excitement and relaxation. You know what I'm talking about.

2. Buy a pair for your girlfriend-wife-boyfriend-husband-friend-with-benefits! Prove to them that Valentine's Day is more than just a social construct designed to overcome those concerns that maybe, deep down inside, you really don't know how to love. Now you can both share your feelings without talking about them.

3. Best reason yet: any purchase of Necomimi Cat Ears by February 14th will come with a free pair of Red Hot Devilish Horns! Swap out the white furry ears with these soft horn-shaped attachments, which will instantly heat up your Valentine's Day. In a good way.

You can purchase the Necomimi Ears for $69.99 online here and enter code LUVU with your order for the free pair of horns. If you want a hands-on look, check out our visit to the NeuroSky booth at Tokyo Game Show after the cut.

Star Wars: Episode 7 Could Have Its Director Next Month

It appears that as soon as January, we could know who will take the helm in the upcoming first film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, which has already targeted a 2015 release date.

With the announcement of Disney's $4.05 billion acquisition of George Lucas' own Galactic Empire (also known as "The Ultimate October Surprise") still sinking in for fans, the spigot of news had seemingly shut for the holiday season. Well, come New Year, the news should start flowing faster than a certain Corellian freighter making the Kessel Run.

Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy briefly talked with ComicBook.com, and while she claimed to have "no immediate update," she did reveal that the script by Toy Story 3 and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire scribe, Michael Arndt is being worked on as we speak and pre-production for the film will kick-off in the spring.

However, she also concluded that "hopefully in January" there could be an official announcement of some kind to make. -- An announcement that, with two short years until the film's release, would likely regard the much-speculated identity of the director.

Names like Matthew Vaughn, Jon Favreau, David Fincher, and even Steven Spielberg seem to be in circulation for this directorial dream job of all dream jobs. However, only one will get to raise this proverbial X-Wing from the swamp.

G.I. Joe Retaliation Reenlists With New Trailer

The hype machine for the delayed release of sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is slowly powering back up.

A week after a new poster touting its 3D-converted status appeared, a new trailer has now emerged with minor (and I stress "minor") bits of new footage from the film as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Roadblock and company get ready to take Cobra's plot for world domination, shine it up real nice, turn it sideways, and stick it straight up their candy asses.

Check out the trailer below to see Die Hard, The Tooth Fairy, and Magic Mike decimating bad guys with extreme prejudice.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation: New Poster Touts 3D Conversion

The promotional effort behind sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation has released a new poster, likely in an effort to remind potential audiences that the film still exists.

Of course, Retaliation was initially set for release back on June 29 before Paramount Pictures would make a risky (and costly) choice to nix those plans, opting to shelf the film for nearly a year for a complete 3D conversion and possible tweaks to the film itself.

Well, after several months off the radar, it appears that the Retaliation hype machine has reactivated as its announced March 29, 2013 release date looms closer. (Although, the poster says March 27.)

Check out the full poster below and decide if knowing is still half the battle.

Angry Birds Star Wars Toys Revealed

Hasbro offered fans in the media a first look at the tie-in toys for Rovio's upcoming Angry Birds Star Wars game at its annual New York Comic-Con preview party. As you can see in the images above and after the jump, a fair assortment of characters from the classic series have been Angry Birds-ified. The Death Star never looked so adorable.

The game itself was unfortunately not available for public showings, but expect it to borrow heavily from the mechanics of Angry Birds Space. This isn't a bad thing at all. You've also probably noticed that the toys pictured here all connect with the Original Trilogy, and that's no coincidence. It's probably inevitable that this Rovio/Hasbro partnership will explore the Prequel Trilogy, and possibly even the Clone Wars TV series, but the kickoff for Angry Birds Star Wars will focus solely on the three movies that launched the franchise.

The Angry Birds Star Wars app arrives on November 8, 2012, but you'll be able to start collecting the toys even sooner, as they're expected to hit store shelves by late October.

Pinel & Pinel Arcade PS Trunk

The set-up you see above is the the Pinel & Pinel Arcade PS Trunk. It doesn't have the hottest name I've ever heard, but it is one impressive bundle for the ultra-wealthy video gamer.

It contains a 3D-ready 55" Sony TV, A PS3, two Formula 1 racing seats with Thrustmaster steering wheels, 24 PS 3 games, an 1,800-watt sound system, a Playstation Move camera, four Move controllers, two Move shooter guns, four PS3 wireless buzzers, four Dualshock 3 controllers, two arcade fighting sticks, two Singstar microphones and four pairs of 3D glasses, all of which is housed in a custom trunk that's covered in calfskin and measures just 51" x 55" x 36" when closed.

In other words: A lifetime's worth of gaming add-on crap in one box -- everything you need for a beyond-the-arcade level of video gaming immersion. If you're super-stylish, you can even get it in crocodile or peacock leather. All this can be yours for $90,000. Buy one at Pinel and Pinel's site.

Hottug, Hot Tub/Tug Boat Hybrid, Will Change All Of Our Lives

Behold, the future of luxury! The image you see above is of the Hottug, a combination powerboat and hot tub. The little floating bathing chamber is made of wood and glass fiber reinforced polyester, and uses a stainless steel stove with a wall pipe to keep the water warm. The deluxe model even offers a wood-burning stove, for that rustic feel. It's powered by either an electric or standard outboard motor and can hold either 8 or 6 people, depending on the model you purchase. The cost: $14,800 at the low-end and $21,000 at the top.

Interestingly enough, this product from the Netherlands is not the only combination hot tub and boat on the market. Tugtub offers an inflatable variation on the idea. It's a bit cheaper, clocking in at $11,495 for the two-person model and $17,495 for the top-of-the-line.

I'm happy that there is healthy competition in the floating hot tub market, and can only assume that a vicious bidding war will break out to capture the important market segment of consumers who are interested in being in a hot tub while floating in a body of water.

TugTub is kind enough to provide a YouTube video of their craft in action, giving us a glimpse into the luxury life we can enjoy if we just believe hard enough. It's under the "Read More" tag.

Amazon Announces Kindle Paperwhite

Amazon has announced the Kindle Paperwhite. The new 7.5 ounce tablet will feature an onboard front light to make E-ink easier to read, as well as a ton of new features and improvements. The basic version will cost $119, and the free-3G version is $179. Both are shipping today.

The Paperwhite is "thinner than a magazine," according to Amazon, and features a newly invented display that is 25 percent brighter than previous Amazon tablets, and with 62 percent more pixels. It's also got eight weeks of battery life and cloud functionality, so all of your books and other reading material will be saved for free in the cloud.

An interesting new feature for the device is a "Time to Read" app that keeps track of the speed of your reading and estimates the amount of time it will take you to finish reading a chapter or book. There's also the X-Ray "Bones of a Book" app that scans all the passages across a book for topics that may interest readers and pulls up more information on the subject with data sourced from Wikipedia

Star Wars Celebration 6: Behind The Scenes Of The Toy Hunter

I was sitting in my Florida hotel room last week preparing for the onslaught that would be Star Wars Celebration VI when an ad came on for a new Travel Channel series called Toy Hunter. The show follows host Jordan Hembrough, founder and owner of Hollywood Heroes, as he checks out fan collections in a never-ending hunt for the rare, the obscure, and he one-of-a-kind.

In a random twist, I received an email pitch just hours later offering me the opportunity to chat with Hembrough at his Hollywood Heroes booth on the show floor at Celebration. Intrigued by the idea of this sort of toy-focused take on Antiques Roadshow, I immediately said yes and set a time to chat.

There on the crowded floor of the Orange County Convention Center, surrounded by hundreds of people dressed in outfits that mirror our favorite Star Wars action figures, Hembrough laid out for me exactly where his passion comes from.
