Surely the result of a devious plot concocted by the evil Skeletor (or to a lesser extent, the horrible Hordak,) it seems that negotiations have soured on a possible updated feature film for Masters of the Universe.

Apparently the younger executives over at Silver Pictures who carried rosy childhood memories of He-Man and originally championed the project are GONE, leaving mean He-Man haters in their place. And after the project was passed by some A-list directors like Doug Liman and Bryan Singer, the project was left in a bad kind of limbo.

It's actually kind of baffling. We had a revival of Transformers and GI Joe is on the way. It doesn't seem rational that the third (and perhaps biggest) of the big three 80's kids (boys) staples would get rejected like this. Are we to be simply left with memories of the thespian-like performance of Dolph Lundgren? Come on!

Especially angry is the Mattel Toy Company who stood to make a killing in the reboot of their most successful toy franchise from the 80's. With revived "retro" versions of Transformers and GI Joe (in identical original packages) in toy aisles today, Hasbro just saw a HUGE opportunity go by.

This guy should win every fanboy award ever. Daniel Deutsch posted pictures on his website of a full size, completely drivable replica of Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder from Star Wars IV: A New Hope. And he built two robotic R2D2s that come packed with smoke machines, a hologram projector, over 50 audio clips taken from the films, and a DLP video projector. Oh, and he pictured the Landspeeder on the sidewalk in front of his Delorean. Seriously, I want to hang out with this dude.

The Landspeeder is completely custom, was built out of a fiberglass chassis from the ground up, the engine is an all electric drive system that can reach a top speed of 25 miles an hour, and the whole vehicle is 100% scale to the original prop from the film. Can you image how many of the neighborhood kids want to hang out at Deutsch's place? And how many time's he's been checked out by the cops for just that reason? Check out the source link for pictures of the assembly and a video of the Landspeeder coasting down the street.

Bratz Smacked Up By Barbie

…and in girly toy news…

A Federal jury just awarded Barbie manufacturer Mattel Inc. $40 million in a copyright case against MGA Entertainment, makers of the Bratz dolls.

In seems that the Bratz were designed by a former Mattel employee and the jury felt that the designer came up with the idea while he was still working for the toy giant.

Snap!

Oh well, no worries. Bratz rakes in about $500 million a year so paying up, like, totally shouldn’t be a big problem.

Totally.

Once again, The MMO Report comes correct to school your ass with knowledge. And yes, we have been listening to a lot of Run DMC in the office recently. This week, Casey gives you all the information we have on Star Trek Online, brings you a new segment that will tell you where to look for those over-priced figures you spend your hard earned dollars on, and about an MMO boss that takes 24 hours to take down. That is what I call dedication.

Speaking of dedication, we want you to send in descriptions of the last time it took you 6 hours to get something done in an MMO. Anything from taking down a boss to mining enough ore to upgrade your armor. Just make sure you keep it clean.

Oh, and we also have the new Warhammer Online cinematic trailer. It's awesome. Click on the blue words and go watch it.

But before you do that, prepare to have your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped around a gold brick. This is...

Pokemon Crushes Japan

How huge is the Pokemon franchise in Japan?

Well, according to Variety, the 11 movies based on the über-cute Nintendo videogame have raced past $455 million (50 billion yen) at Japanese box office, breaking local records for feature cartoons.

Variety reports that the most recent film, Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet: Shaymin, has raked in $32 million since its release on July 19.

Pokemon started as a Game Boy RPG in the ‘90s, and has since branched out to manga, a trading card game, an animated series and other merchandise.

The first Pokemon movie stormed the U.S. in 1999, generating $86 million, a record has yet to be broken for a Japanese film. (Well, until Kung-Pow 2 comes out, I’m bettin’…)

We all know that chainsaw + machine gun = awesome. Now your dreams of holding a gas powered weapon of dismemberment in your hands are that much closer. Amazon has put up a pre-order page on their website for the exclusive Gears of War 2 Lancer toy replica. It's full size, has a removable clip, makes chainsaw sounds when you pull the trigger, and is spattered in fake blood. So awesome.

You can purchase the toy of epic slaughter for $139.99, which includes a copy of Gears of War 2, or drop an additional 10 bucks and you'll get the Gears of War 2 Special Edition. All items will be shipped on November 7th, and you can blame Microsoft when your little brother tries to cut your sister in half.

Amazon.com has listed a Gears of War 2 Special Edition bundle for $139.99 that comes with a Lancer chainsaw-gun. Relax, the gun is not actually a chainsaw but features 3 C-sized batteries for vibration and chainsaw sound effects that are trigger activated.

Gears of War 2 is a cover-heavy blockbuster action title developed by Epic and chief designer Cliff Bleszinski (pictured at right with the replica.) It is published by Microsoft and exclusive to the Xbox 360. Both the game and the replica gun are set to ship November 7.

IDW Publishing recently revealed to MTV News that they are working on a five-part prequel mini-series entitled Transformers: Destiny that will connect the 2007 film to the Summer 2009 sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

IDW revealed that the main villain in the new Michael Bay film will be a powerful robot named The Fallen, who was once one of the thirteen Transformers and is now seeking vengeance.

"[We're going to] explore the background of The Fallen — the main villain of the movie — as well as expand on the 'Reign of Starscream' story that we're doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be," commented writer Chris Mowry. "The next movie starts out with just tons of action and there's obviously going to be a lot of questions, so we're hoping to answer some of those beforehand."

You probably think that working at G4 means that game, movie and toy companies send us cool stuff all the time - and you'd only be partially right.  That said, the folks at Target sent us one of their limited edition, available-only-at-Target Commander Fox Clone Wars Action Figures.  They knew that we, probably like you, collect such things.  Sometimes (geek) membership does have its priveledges.

This bad boy is expected to sell out quickly, so if you're into Star Wars collectables (and we know lots of you are) - you may want to head out sooner than later to pick one up.

It recently broke on the internet that Amazon is  about to release two new models of their digital book reader, the Kindle; one smaller, more compact version, and another version with a much larger screen.

When the news broke on Crunchgear, a couple commenters pointed out that the larger version would be perfect to take on the college/university textbook market, which brings in $5.5 billion a year. This would appear to be a no-brainer, considering one of the biggest text book publishing companies, McGraw-Hill Education, publishes 95% of their titles digitally as well as in print.

This could not only save the arm muscles of many achademics, but it could save countless trees, cut production costs, save students money, and make the yearly text-shopping clusterf**k almost managable. For now, there has been no official announcement from Amazon regarding and textbook releases, but with that kind of industry in the wings, we think it's only a matter of time.

Once again, we must explain that these things are not considered dolls. They are ACTION FIGURES!

McFarlane Toys, creators of the ever-so-awesome Spawn figurine collections, have teamed up with Activision to bring us a line-up of ACTION FIGURES inspired by the finger strumming game series, Guitar Hero.

The collection is expected to hit your local retail shelves by November this year. With the anticipated release of Guitar Hero: World Tour later this year as well, there is no better time to pay tribute to the God of Rock - go ahead stroke his beard. More details and pictures after the jump.

New wave icons Devo are suing fast food giants McDonald over the chain’s American Idol-themed Happy Meal toys.

It seems that one of the free action figures that come with the Happy Meals is a dude named New Wave Nigel who looks suspiciously like any member of Devo from the “Whip It” video, the band’s biggest hit and their most recognizable look.

Devo is pissed Ronald and company are using the band's likeness as a marketing tool and never even bothered to ask permission!
