The MMO Report

We know how sad you all are that you couldn't attend BlizzCon, so we did the next best thing; we sent John Walsh.

This week, The MMO Report presents you with an intimate look at what it's like inside the Anaheim Convention Center when Blizzard takes over once a year. We sent our field reporter John Walsh to get some hands on impressions of Diablo III and Wrath of the Lich King, find out what exactly inspires attractive females to dress up like fictional characters, and what that strange, musty smell is. Trust me, you really don't want to know. So expand your browser window and turn the volume up to 11. This is...

Couldn't attend BlizzCon this year? Well we went for you and have boiled down the Diablo III and World of Warcraft panels into easily swallowed chunks for you to consume. There are 7 videos, 6 of which are after the jump. Enjoy.

Tagging along with The MMO Report as they made their way to this year's BlizzCon gathering in sunny Anaheim, California, we were able to take some interesting snapshots of the real life people that make up Blizzard's virtual worlds.

From the helpful, well-spoken Louisiana IT technican who plays an Undead Rogue in WoW to the cosplayer from Arizona who spent months engineering the wiring to light up her Epic armor properly... we here at G4 salute you for your gaming passion and the imagery it creates.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Yes ladies and gentleman, we can almost say for certain that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO will be revealed in a matter of weeks. Try and contain your excitement, the neighbors hate it when you scream.

But we've got way more than that. EverQuest II teaches you how to pimp out your guild hall, Stargate Worlds started taking beta applications, and The ORLY Factor returns to snatch tiny little rumors and drop them on your front doorstep as a present. That and Casey hates LEGOs. Well not really. But maybe. More like no. But he did knock it out of the park this week, so be thankful he likes you. This is...

It's that time again, and we know you've come back for more. A bailout package has been voted on, the presidential race is getting ridiculous, and we had a strange 2 day heatwave here in Los Angeles. Next I'm expecting the surface of the planet to crack and the reanimated corpse of Estelle Getty to start running rampant in downtown Portland. Think about it, it makes sense.

This week, Casey will show you the first pieces of concept art from the 38 Studio MMO codenamed Copernicus, tell you what Cryptic said in response to fan-submitted questions about Star Trek Online, scold all of you for lying to those nice professors from USC, and how you can get all the pain and joy of Burning Man without ever having to leave your house. No, it has nothing to do with huffing glue. Instead, turn off the lights and close the door. But...but what? We don't love them hoes. Yeah. This is...

September is quickly coming to a close, and in this, the season of giving, gifting, and massive retail releases, it's important to remember what's really important; Casey Schreiner.

This week Casey details what happened with Ensemble Studios' canceled Halo MMO, why DC Universe Online might be just as interesting to read as it is to play, how you can play Bejeweled in World of Warcraft with the click of a finger, and how Second Life is going to bring us to the brink of unclear apocalypse. It's a big week. Almost as big as the freshly announced G1, but we'll get to that later.

For now take a step outside, breath the crisp fall air, and curse mother nature for ruining your Tulip garden before it even had a chance to bloom. Don't ask, it's a sore subject. This is...

It all comes down to this.

WAR is everywhere, and today, the day that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning finally hits store shelves, we are bringing you an in-depth look at everything this new MMO brings to the table. Going right to the horse's mouth, we spoke to the developers at Mythic Entertainment that have been putting their blood, sweat, and tears into this game for more than three years.

With features like Realm vs. Realm combat, Public Quests, Living Cities, Living Guilds, the Tome of Knowledge, and a trophy system with tons of unlockable achievements, Warhammer Online is a game that demands your attention, and then slaps you across the face with awesome. This could be it, the game that finally destroys your fear of commitment and forces you to become a part of their world and all the questing, looting, and violence that comes with it. So call up all your Greenskin friends, down a few frosty mugs of mead, and prepare for WAR. This is...

This week, we're preparing you for the launch of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning with Part 1 of our two-part launch special. To get an inside look at how the game was developed at Mythic Entertainment, we got an exclusive tour from Creative Director Paul Barnett; a man so funny he should probably have his own tv show. Or at least guest host The Tonight Show. Find out how you too can become a game developer, and just how many man-dolls and swords it takes to make a great MMO. Here's a hint: It's a lot.

Also, we have picked the winners of our "Perfect Haiku Contest", and posted their poems after the Read More link. Some are quite beautiful, some are quite hilarious, all are worth the time it takes to read them. Congratulate these fine literary soldiers on their masterful knowledge of the English language and understanding of what a syllable is.

So hop on your dog sled, mush those huskies with all your might, and say "thanks, but no thanks" to a bridge to nowhere. This is...

Oh, what a week it's been. I swear, sometimes public figures make it so easy to ridicule them that it makes me feel like I'm slacking off.

Anyway, that's beside the point. What's more important is "The Perfect Haiku Contest" we're running, and how you can enter to win 5,000 Zen, the in-game currency for Perfect World International, which has opened their beta to the public.

Here's how to enter: First, create a Perfect World International account by going to their website and signing up for the beta. You can create an account here, or just go to PerfectWorld.com and click the "Join Free" button. Next, make sure you have a G4tv.com account. If you don't have one, you can create one for free right here. Lastly, go to our submission page at G4tv.com/PerfectHaiku, read and accept the rules and regulations, and fill out all the entry fields you see before you. Bam. Easy. Remember, a haiku has 3 lines, the first and 3rd containing 5 syllables, the second containing 7.

Don't expect us to be kind, though. You will be graded on how well you have completed your assignment, how creative your haiku is, and how much you make us laugh. The writers of the 5 best haikus will recieve an e-mail informing them of their winnings, and 5,000 Zen will be transfered to your Perfect World International account. You can thank us later. So knock this one out of the park, because Casey already does that for you every week, so you owe him one. This is...

During this week long Democratic love-fest in Colorado, you need a sharp punch in the mouth to remind you that the world isn't quite that sunny. That just so happens to be what Casey Schreiner does best. He'll slap that smile right off that smug face of yours, and you will love him for it. Don't resist, just embrace. It's much easier that way.

This week Casey is going to tell you about how Blizzard is preparing World of Warcraft subscribers for the upcoming Wrath of the Lich King expansion, a new MMO called The Chronicles of Spellborn, and one of the best internet loves stories of all time in WTF Second Life. You know that's gotta be a good one. Also, we've posted a few of our favorite submissions for our '6 Hour Power Session' write in campaign. Click the Read More link and feel better about yourself for at least getting out of the house once in a while. So hop on that griffin, minimize the window, and press play. You're about to have the happy slapped out of you. This is...

Once again, The MMO Report comes correct to school your ass with knowledge. And yes, we have been listening to a lot of Run DMC in the office recently. This week, Casey gives you all the information we have on Star Trek Online, brings you a new segment that will tell you where to look for those over-priced figures you spend your hard earned dollars on, and about an MMO boss that takes 24 hours to take down. That is what I call dedication.

Speaking of dedication, we want you to send in descriptions of the last time it took you 6 hours to get something done in an MMO. Anything from taking down a boss to mining enough ore to upgrade your armor. Just make sure you keep it clean.

Oh, and we also have the new Warhammer Online cinematic trailer. It's awesome. Click on the blue words and go watch it.

But before you do that, prepare to have your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped around a gold brick. This is...

Every once in a while, MMO Report host Casey gets restless, and we have to send him on the road. This week, we sent him up to San Francisco to check out NCsoft's upcoming MMO Aion: Tower of Eternity at a special preview event. After enjoying copious amounts of free food, free booze, and Starbucks coffee, Casey sat down at a computer and forced the game to bend to his will. Actually, he was a little shaky at first, but he eventually got the hang of it.

Then, Casey got to sit down with Chris Hager and Brian Knox; two members of the NCsoft Austin team who have been working on the English language version of the game. They were also full of free food and booze. And so was I. But don't tell our bosses. So prepare to glimpse into the future, where everyone is beautiful and we all fly like angels. Or giant human/bat hybrids. Whichever floats your boat. This is...

We're back in the studio this week, and of course as soon as we start to settle back in, the ground starts moving underneath us. That's a sign that we're doing something right. Or terribly wrong. Either way, we're changing things and that's the way Casey likes it!

This week Casey covers the details that have come out of the Wrath of the Lich King beta, discusses the possible release date for Warhammer Online, and gets to finally enjoy the fact that Knights of the Old Republic Online is very real and very much on it's way. In celebration, Casey's throwing himself a birthday party. Attendance is manditory under the rules of G4 employment. So raise your glass to the sky and toast the host who can boast the most...something that rhymes with toast. This is...
