Even as the global economy falls to ruin, Iron Man DVDs are doing quite well, opening a first week of sales to record numbers. 7.2 million SD and 500,000 Blu-ray discs were moved with the opening day Blu-ray sales of 260,000 setting a new record.

Loaded with extras, which has become standard fare for any successful DVD sales streak, Iron Man has a 2-hour documentary on the science and implementation of the suits, featurettes on the visual effects used, and the usual deleted scenes and behind the scenes interviews. The "Ultimate Edition" also has a history of the character going all the way back to Stan Lee's creation of the scotch-swilling hero.

Of course, all this DVD sales success will be soon eclipsed by The Dark Knight, but for now, Iron Man is king.

World: "But I want LittleBigPlanet!"

Yes, it seems as though Sony has come forward to officially say they won't be dropping the price on the PS3. Even as other consoles have made cuts throughout 2008, PlayStation is holding strong, convinced they have the best games and hardware out there.

They're also probably convinced that they need to sell them at a certain price or risk losing even more of their rear-ends. Director of corporate communications for Sony Computer Entertainment, Patrick Seybold, said "with PS3 titles for this including Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift to name but a few of our multiple exclusives, combined with PlayStation Home and increasing multimedia features for the hardware, we expect to have continued momentum going into and beyond this holiday season."

Forget ye not, too, about the PlayStation 2 which is still experiencing great sales globally in hard and software and just recently got a redesign to give it that fresh feeling.

So, ha.

Good news, everyone: 3D Holographic TV could be here soon. (Also, sorry for the oft-used Leia hologram picture.) Earlier this year, a University of Arizona team lead by Dr. Nasser Peyghambarian (let’s call him Dr. P) made a major breakthrough in the quest for holographic displays: They have an erasable, re-writable hologram.

Dr. P’s “Hologram R/W” breakthrough has created a single-color, four-inch square hologram takes a few minutes to erase and re-write. Thanks doc, but we need high-def color holograms, “rewriting” at about 60fps (also, couple it with one of these, and Starcraft 2 please). Dr. P is very optimistic about the future of this technology, even saying “there are no more great barriers to overcome.”

Flying Car For Sale

Posted October 3, 2008 - By timbococ

An awesome VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft (read: sweet-ass George-Jetson-like flying car) has popped up on eBay. This prototype flyer is comin’ atcha straight out of the 80’s, whence it made hundreds of successful test flights, including one which made the news in 1989 (video after the break).

What would you use this thing for? The tactical advantage in water balloon and/or paintball wars would be formidable, indeed. As of this writing, a bid of merely $19,700 will put you in the lead.

When you get sick of that third serving of Ham & Cheese Hot Pocket, just throw it against the wall and curse its cheesy goodness and head over to GamerGrub.

It enhances "visual input, cognitive processing, signal transmission and muscle reflexes for maximum gaming performance." But don't blame the "Racing Wasabi" if you still suck...and possibly vomit.

Adobe has released details about the first major update for their creative suite of applications in over a year. From their time spent with a beta version, the folks over at cnet.com feel CS4 is an evolutionary step for the popular software; so casual users may want to hold off on upgrading.

The most notable change is increased integration between the applications, including a more unified interface and improved ability to use and move layers and objects between applications. Also, Photoshop CS4 will finally make use of your computer’s graphics card for noticeably improved performance. Many other small updates and tweaks round out this solid update to a great software package. We’ll see how it all pans out come October.
