Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies Mode Screens Shamble Forth

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's zombie mode will feature theater capability.  According to Treyarch's Mark Lamia, you'll be able to record, play and save your favorite moments from your zombie gameplay, and create your own version of Dawn of the Dead with your pals.

There will be a lot to take movies of in Black Ops 2's zombie mode, don't worry, particulalry in "Tranzit" mode. The co-op gameplay type will feature open-world style gameplay that sees zombie hunters riding on a huge bus. You'll travel from map to map, running down undead hordes. Like everything else in the haunted world of Black Ops 2's zombies, the bus is not safe. Gangs of the undead will attack your vehicle as you travel. They'll try to overtake you and eat your sweet, sweet brains, so keep your foot on the gas and your eyes on the rearview. But take lots of pictures.

Check out the Black Ops "Zombie Mode" video under the "Read More" tag.

Obsidian Reveals First Project Eternity Screen, World Details

With only a few days remaining for Obsidian Entertainment's Project Eternity on Kickstarter, the developer is hoping to nab a few more last-minute backs with some new revelations about the RPG's world and a first screenshot from the game. Project Eternity currently stands at roughly $2.7 million pledged, more than double its original $1.1 million goal, so at this point it's more a matter of reaching for stretch goals.

The nearest stretch falls at the $3 million mark, at which point Obsidian will offer players the ability to own their own stronghold in the game (the previous $2 million stretch added player-owned houses). You can check out the new screen above, but head over to the Kickstarter page to read up on the newly expanded lore.

Mass Effect 3 'Omega' DLC Plot Details Surface

Electronic Arts has yet to officially confirm a release date for Mass Effect 3's Omega DLC, but a report from New York Comic Con seems to indicate that it'll be arriving on November 27, 2012. Don't take this as gospel quite yet, however, as the source of the news -- a video interview with BioWare's Mike Gamble -- appears to have been set to private.

The video was reportedly shot on the show floor at NYCC by Examiner reporter Beverly Lim Lee (via Joystiq). She introduces her interview subject as "Mike, the producer of Mass Effect 3 Omega" and squeezes out a few facts, including the November 27 release and confirmation of a $15 / 1,200 MS Point price point.

In the absence of any hard evidence it's tough to classify this as anything more than a rumor at the moment, though we've hit up EA for a more official comment on the matter, so stay tuned.

Mass Effect 3 Now Tracks Stats At N7 HQ

BioWare's latest Retaliation multiplayer DLC for Mass Effect 3 is the biggest yet, and a newly launched N7 HQ website allows players to track their stats as well as chart progress through the game's new Challenges feature. It's a pretty elaborate web portal, offering players access to profile info, stats, character sheets, inventory, and leaderboards, a BioWare Blog post reveals.

In addition to scoping out your own and your friends' multiplayer profiles, N7 HQ also allows players to keep track of their Challenge Awards. The latest DLC trades in BioWare's bi-weekly weekend Operations for weekly challenges. For now, success amounts to earning titles and emblems for use online and in-game, though it sounds like you'll also eventually be keeping track of more tangible awards, similar to the Commendation and Victory pack rewards from previous Operations.

Borderlands 2 Detailed -- All New Characters, Guns, and Vehicles

Unsurprisingly, Madden NFL 13 was able to take the top spot as the top selling game of the month, but it was Borderlands 2 number two spot on the list that really caught our eye.

“Borderlands 2, with its bazillion guns-a-blazing, exceeded the first month’s unit sales of the first game which launched in October 2009 by 234%," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier. Fifa Soccer 13, New Super Marios Bros. 2, and Guild Wars 2 rounded out the top five.

The bad news is that video game sales continued to slide in September, declining 24 percent year-over-year in September 2012 from $1.11 billion to $848.3 million according to the NPD Group. The number is a bit misleading though, as they only represent new physical retail sales of hardware, software and accessories which only account for about 50 percent of the total amount consumers spend on games.

Had NPD included digital format sales, as well as add-on content downloads including microtransactions, subscriptions, and mobile apps the number would be at about $1.6B, meaning people are still spending just as much money (if not more) on games this year as they were last year, just in different ways.

As for consoles, the Xbox 360 was the highest-selling home console for the month with 270,000 units sold. Nintendo also had a bright month, as the overall sales of the Nintendo 3DS increased 89 percent year-over-year. “Nintendo 3DS XL continues to galvanize our Nintendo 3DS business,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Hardware sales are up, software sales are increasing exponentially and the attach rate is growing stronger every month."

Rockstar Collection Confirmed

The Rockstar Games Collection Edition 1 is officially official. The slate of Rockstar games will be released on November 6 for the PS3 and 360. For only $59.99, you'll be able to play the following games:

  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City (The Lost and Damned & The Ballad of Gay Tony)
  • L.A. Noire
  • Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition (includes every downloadable real world vehicle and city section released since launch.)

While the news wasn't exactly a well-kept secret, it is a fantastic bargain. Any one of these games is worth $60 still, but to get four of them at once... damn.  Also interesting: The "1" part of the title. Obviously, this implies a Rockstar Collection #2 is in the works or planned.  Click the cut for my predictions for the second collection.

PopCap And The ADA Team Up To Stop Zombie Mouth

Halloween is, without a doubt, one of the best times of the year. When else do you get to let your imagination run wild, dress up as a favorite character (cosplayers, you get a free pass here), watch a steady stream of horror movies and indulge in endless sweets and treats? Well, considering some of the health issues facing our country, that last part may require a little bit of creative thinking.

But here’s a radical idea – why not extend the definition of “treat” into a non-sugary (but just as awesome) thing, like a game. Genius!

PopCap and the American Dental Association (ADA) have done just that, by teaming up and creating a decidedly awesome campaign featuring the Plants vs. Zombies cast designed to help kids (and their families) have a Halloween that’s both happy and healthy. Offering PvZ game downloads, trading cards, and other goodies that parents and kids can pass out when it comes time to trick or treat, it’s all part of the effort to get oral health higher up on kids’ lists of priorities, especially on the official toothache holiday.

For NBC Universal's Healthy Week, we were able to chat with PopCap co-founder John Vechey and Dr. Jonathan Shenkin of the ADA and find out just what all this “Stop Zombie Mouth” buzz is about.

Borderlands 2 DLC 'Captain Scarlett And Her Pirate's Booty' Confirmed For Next Week

The rumors are true, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is now officially confirmed as the first DLC pack for Borderlands 2, arriving on October 16, 2012. The pack embraces a pirate theme, adding an assortment of new enemies (sand worms!), as well as a skiff vehicle and a new form of currency in Seraph Crystals (via Associated Press).

"You can sense the pirate theme across the landscape, even though there's no water," Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford said in a statement. "It's all dried up. It feels more like Tatooine than an ocean. These bandits have really embraced the pirate lifestyle, and there's the legend of a treasure. That kicks off this whole adventure that the players can go on."

The now-confirmed title and pirate theme line up with earlier rumors that sprung from accidentally revealed PlayStation Trophies and info buried in the game's code. Now that the cat is officially out of the bag, I can also let you know that we recently got a hands-on look at Captain Scarlett and will be posting our impressions next week, on October 15.

Sleeping Dogs DLC Awakens Next Week

The first of two planned mission content packs for Sleeping Dogs will arrive on October 16, 2012, Square Enix confirms on its website (via Joystiq). The Street Racer Pack adds a total of three new races to the game, with one apiece for cars, motorcycles, and boats. The pack also adds the new Sting superbike to players' garages, as well as a new Dragon racing outfit that buffs your damage resistance.

The Street Racer Pack will hit all platforms that Sleeping Dogs is available for -- PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows/Steam -- on the same day, with a price of $3.99 (320 MS Points). No word yet on when to expect the upcoming SWAT pack, which, as we learned in the original DLC reveal, will add 20 new cop missions to the game.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Video Review »

Mists of Pandaria is the fourth expansion for World of Warcraft. By now, we expect Blizzard to know exactly what returning WoW players want, and what new players need, to stay in the game. We weren't surprised at all when we found our Blizzard managed to do just that that with WoW: Mists of Pandaria.

Here's a piece of our World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria review:

"What it all boils down to is this: if you're a fan of WoW itself, you're going to love World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. The expansion adds more wonderful charm to the game while not exactly taking the huge risks that we've seen in past expansions, and that's okay. As a returning player, there's plenty to do to keep me busy thanks to all of the end game content, and there will be more to come when Blizzard implements the game's upcoming 10 and 25 man raid encounters."

Check out our entire World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria review for more.
