It doesn’t matter how tough you are, Amnesia: The Dark Descent will make you sleep with the lights on for days. Now that the sequel to last year’s cult hit, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, hasbeendelayeduntilearly 2013, you have a few extra months to prepare yourself for the brutally-haunting madness. We chose a few games that you can play in the meantime.

Four Games To Play While You Wait For Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs

Slender is the free game that has done the best at capturing the pure fright of a game like Amnesia. You spawn as an unknown character with a flashlight that is supposed to ‘find all 8 pages’. That’s all you know. It’s dark out and you have a flashlight. Even with the flashlight, the entire view isn’t revealed, only enough to see where you’re going. There’s a haunting tone playing and it increases at random moments.

There isn’t a map, so you’ll find yourself looking around at all times. When you first encounter the Slender Man, he’s just standing in the woods. It is perhaps one of the most frightening moments in horror games. As you attempt to run, your screen fills with static. Only being able to run for a short amount of time, you’ll likely be short on breath in a matter of seconds, starting to panic, and looking for an escape. Only there isn’t one, the Slender Man will again appear and this time you won’t make it out alive. His face flashes on the screen and the game is over. It’s possible to win, and you’ll get some cool unlocks, if you can make it through the game without quitting from fear.

Borderlands 2

The latest Borderlands 2 patch for PlayStation 3 appears to have outed our first details of the game's upcoming second DLC expansion pack, according to a poster on NeoGAF. 2K Games has yet to reveal what will come after this week's Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty add-on pack, though we know based on Season Pass plans that Gearbox Software intends to release a total of four add-ons between the game's September 2012 launch and June 2013.

It looks like the title for DLC2 is Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. There are three PS3 Trophies connected to it and they're all pretty similar to the Achievement/Trophy rewards attached to Captain Scarlett. One Trophy unlocks for completing the "Long Way to the Top" mission (presumably the last in the add-on pack's story), one is awarded for completing all Campaign of Carnage side missions, and one goes to players who manage to find 10 collectible pictures of Moxxi in the DLC.

None of this is officially confirmed of course, but the info certainly suggests that it's possible we'll see a second Borderlands 2 expansion before the end of 2012.

BioShock Infinite Collector's Editions Revealed

BioShock Infinite will be out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows platforms on February 26, 2013 for $59.99, but those among you who are flush with cash will also have the option of spending more on two different collector's editions. A $79.99 Premium Edition and $149.99 Ultimate Songbird Edition are both loaded with extras that won't be included with the standard release.

The cheaper of the two options comes packed with a 3-inch keychain replica of the Murder of Crows vigor bottle, a lithograph by Jorge Lacera, a resin-cast Handyman miniature to go with Plaid Hat Games' upcoming BioShock Infinite board game, a mini art book, a soundtrack download, platform-specific digital content (Avatar goods for Xbox 360, themes for PS3/PC), and an in-game Upgrade Pack to start your adventure with.

Razer Deathstalker Ultimate Keyboard - Tech Junkies

One of the things you’ll first notice when you lay eyes on the Deathstalker Ultimate from Razer is the additional Switchblade interface that adorns the right side of the keyboard. The Switchblade UI replaces the number pad area of most keyboards with 10 dynamic display programmable keys, a Synaptics touch sensitive LCD screen, and right & left mouse buttons at the bottom. For the LCD touchscreen Razer has released a freely available SDK (Software Development Kit) that allows developers to make dynamic and reactive applications that will display in the screen area of the keyboard. You might initially think that this is the only thing that sets the Deathstalker apart from its peers and fortunately you’d be wrong.

The Deathstalker Ultimate has a whole host of recognizable Razer features and a few new add-ons that are sure to be welcomed by gaming enthusiasts. For those who have other Razer products you’ll instantly notice the braided cables, backlighting, and triple snake branding. Some of the newer features include a fixed wrist rest with a rubberized inlay, tri-color LED backlighting, fully customizable keysets, five additional macro keys, 10 key anti-ghosting technology, and an onboard macro recording interface.

Obsidian Reveals First Project Eternity Screen, World Details

Obsidian Entertainment might have taken some flak early on for turning to Kickstarter with Project Eternity, but that certainly doesn't show in the record-breaking total that the funding period closes on. The South Park: The Stick of Truth developer netted a whopping $3.98 million in funding from backers, the highest-ever figure for a video game project on Kickstarter.

The number falls just shy of the company's recently announced $4 million stretch goal, which would see the game enhanced with an in-game developer commentary and a studio-recorded instrumental soundtrack, but CEO Feargus Urquhart tells Polygon that PayPal donations made outside of Kickstarter actually push the total up to $4.1 million. Stretch goal achieved.

Project Eternity originally launched on Kickstarter with a target of $1.1 million -- a goal achieved only days after the funding period began -- for what is planned as an old-school RPG. Now that the dollars are counted, only one step remains: Obsidian has to deliver.

BioWare On The Secret To The Old Republic's Success

BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic is going free-to-play, and while we've gotten rough explanations from EA of how this will work, a new chart on the game's website breaks down the specifics. In short: all of the story-related content is going completely free while everything surrounding it will be limited in some way.

In gameplay terms, F2P users will be limited to three attempts apiece at Flashpoint missions, PvP Warzones, and Space Missions per week, with an optional weekly pass for unlimited play available for purchase. Operations -- the SW:TOR equivalent of raids -- are completely walled off to F2P users, though a weekly pass can be purchased for unfettered access to those as well.

Creating The Perfect Horror Game -- How thechineseroom Plans To Bring Back Fear In The Amnesia Sequel

When you think back to the great great horror games of our time, few modern games compare to the original Resident Evil or Silent Hill 2, but one modern game, with little to no fanfare and by word of mouth alone, seems to have caught the hearts and fears of gamers around the world. With no ammo, RPG elements, or a massive boss to speak off; one title passes through the lips of gamers everywhere when it comes to horror.

I’m talking about Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

With the sequel, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, coming out next year; the team behind Dear Esther, thechineseroom, stepped forward to take on the darkness. Some may question if they have the chops to take on such a challenge. Dan Pinchbeck, creative director at thechineseroom, talked about what made Amnesia so scary at this year’s IndieCade 2012 and their focus for the sequel. The lessons here resonate not only with their games, but also with all horror games and how the player approaches the terror.

Here are just a few of the lessons I gleamed from the Dan's lecture about Amnesia.

Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810 -- Switch Between Devices With Just A Button

Logitech has just announced the Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810. That's a mighty fancy name for a keyboard, but I think this one deserves it. The K810 uses Bluetooth tech to switch between three devices simultaneously, meaning you can type on your PC, then switch over to type on your smartphone, and with the push of button, begin typing on your tablet. It's basically a universal remote for all of your communication devices. Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810 is compatible with Windows, iOS and Android devices, but it's been designed with Windows 8 in mind.

Visually, the K810 is pretty slick with a slim, brushed aluminum frame. Thanks to auto-adjusting lights, your keys will stay visible no matter where, or when, you're working. It can even detect when your hands are about to touch they keys and will light up accordingly, which might be the coolest and creepiest feature yet.

One full charge will last up 10 days of battery life, which is great since this seems like a keyboard for people on the go, or people who don't want to get off the couch. You'll be able to test that battery, and device switching, for yourself later this month when the Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810 is released.
