EA Announces Origin

Twitch livestreaming functionality is coming to Electronic Arts' Origin digital storefront, the publisher confirms (via Eurogamer). Once the functionality is added, users will be able to access the Origin menu from inside any game (Shift + F1 by default) and click the new camera icon you find there to sign in and start streaming.

What makes this especially interesting is the fact that the next Origin client update will also allow users to add non-Origin titles to their games list. Combine the two new features and you're left with an extremely simple, user-friendly method for livestreaming play from any game that you own. Not too shabby.

There's no specific release timing for the client update, but EA expects to roll it out worldwide "in the coming days."

Skyrim

Skyrim fans on PlayStation 3 and PC platforms have had to wait patiently for DLC thanks to an Xbox 360 exclusivity deal, but Bethesda Softworks confirms in a tweet that new DLC is "close" for the two platforms. Two content add-ons have already been released for the 2011 RPG, called Dawnguard and Hearthfire, and the former came to PCs in summer 2012.

Sony's console presents more of a problem for the team at Bethesda, with all Skyrim DLC releases having been previously delayed indefinitely due to performance issues. Bethesda has reportedly been workly closely with Sony to make the add-ons play nice with the PS3 hardware, and this new tweet seems to confirm that some progress has been made.

Unfortunately, there's no word on when this content will be coming or which of the two former DLC releases so far are headed to PS3. Stay tuned for more news soon.

Stuff Uncle Casey’s Mailbag! If you’re a fan of The MMO Report, or just a fan of emailing people you don’t know personally, this is your last chance to stuff Uncle Casey’s Mailbag. In preparation for the final episode of The MMO Report, G4’s favorite bearded host, Casey Schreiner, wants you to send him your farewell letters. So please send your best (or worst) wishes to Casey by emailing themmoreport@g4tv.com by Monday, November 12th, and they may appear on one of the final episodes of The MMO Report. We look forward to reading your love (or hate) letters and to your opportunity to have Casey respond to them with his customary snark and distain.

Political Ad Focuses On World of Warcraft

With everything going on during the presidential election last night -- four more years of Obama, legalized marijuana in two states, the first openly gay senator, etc. -- the national media can be excused for ignoring the result of Maine's Senate District 25. But we won't, though, because the winning candidate, Democrat Colleen Lachowicz, is a hardcore World of Warcraft player.

Rather than downplay her hobby, Lachowicz was open about it throughout her campaign, a propensity that provided her opponent with an interesting way of attacking her: "Lachowicz has been living a time-consuming double life as a member of the World of Warcraft community," according Thomas Martin, her GOP opponent.

The (totally ridiculous) smear was not successful. In the ultimate PvP arena of Maine politics, Lachowicz murdered Martin through democracy, beating him by around 900 votes.

Assassin's Creed Anthology Outed, Confirmed By Ubisoft

UPDATE: Ubisoft now confirms that, for the time being at least, the Assassin's Creed Anthology Edition is exclusive to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (via Joystiq). The late November release date from the Amazon France listing appears to be accurate, as does the pricing.

ORIGINAL POST: Assassin's Creed 3's status as the marquee release last week does little good for those who have never sampled Ubisoft's series, and that's probably why the publisher is planning to release the Assassin's Creed Anthology Edition. First spotted on Amazon France (via Eurogamer) and later confirmed by Ubi, the collection gathers every console game in the series into a single box.

That means: Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, and, of course, Assassin's Creed 3, along with all previously released DLC. Given the completeness of the set, it's certainly possible that a Season Pass for Assassin's Creed 3 will be included as well; Ubisoft tells Eurogamer that a formal announcement will be coming later this week.

The Amazon France product listing pegs the price at 150 Euros (slightly less than $200) and the release for November 29, 2012. Just keep in mind that Ubisoft merely confirmed the existence of this collection based on a product listing in Europe; there's no confirmation yet that a North American release is planned.

Dead Island: Riptide's Fifth Playable Character Revealed

The name of the fifth playable character in Dead Island: Riptide is John Morgan, Techland confirms in a press release. Morgan joins the 2011 game's returning cast of four characters in the sequel, bringing along a whole new set of skills that ought to fit in nicely alongside the talents of the original quartet.

This new character is basically Steven Seagal's Casey Ryback character from the classic 1992 film Under Siege. By that I mean he's a U.S. Navy cook with a knack for hand-to-hand combat and pissing off Gary Busey. Okay, maybe not so much that second bit, but how badass would it be if Gary Busey suddenly showed up in Riptide as a cross-dressing madman?

Deep Silver has the likely Gary Busey-less Dead Island: Riptide set to hit stores on April 23, 2013.

The new Assassin's Creed 3 commercial is a bit blockier than the other offerings we've seen so far. Featuring a Team America vibe, the clip, which will show during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, features a marionette version of assassin Connor Kenway facing off against a group of red coats, showing off "new weapons", "skills" and "enemies" you'll face in AC3.  Do you prefer the puppets or gameplay?

Take a look at the newly launched Kickstarter for Big Robot Games' Sir, You Are Being Hunted. Perhaps you've heard of this one? The open-world survival/stealth FPS drops players into a procedurally generated rendering of the British countryside where roaming steampunk robots shoot any humans that they see.

The Kickstarter funding goal is set at £40,000, a number which seems very achievable given that, with 26 days remaining in the funding period, the amount pledged is already at £32,239 at the time of this writing. Much of the work on Sir has already been done; Big Robot is turning to Kickstarter to ensure that the final product is fully polished.

For as much as we’ve seen of IO Interactive and Square Enix’s long awaited Hitman: Absolution over the past year or so, it always seems to surprise us whenever we get a new look at it. We’ve played through the first five chapters of the game (included as part of the final pre-release preview code) at least 3,459 times, and delightfully unexpected stuff just keeps cropping up. So to get you primed for the game’s launch in a couple weeks, we thought we’d give you a little taste of some of the highlights--some humorous, some horrendously violent, some just because they pleased our senses--from our time with Hitman: Absolution's opening levels.

Hitman: Absolution -- Highlights from the First 5 Chapters

Chapter 1 -- Chicago

The first level in the game is your standard tutorial setup. No real challenges to overcome, just a series of encounters designed to familiarize yourself with Agent 47’s sneaky-death-dealing-in-disguise ways that culminates with you taking out your former employer, Diana Burnwood. The level takes place in a sprawling compound inhabited by security guards, yard workers, and even personal chefs. The highlight for us though came during the ledge-walking training sequence where you have to sneak to and enter through a window that looks out onto a cliff.

But before you can climb through, you are treated to an inspiring phone conversation between a guard and his doctor who informs him that he doesn’t have prostate cancer. In his elated state, he blurts out, “Whew! No one can piss on this day!” which is unfortunate because this also happens to be the scenario that teaches you how to pull people out of windows. We were super happy for the guy for about half a second, and then we remembered why we were on that ledge in the first place and did what had to be done.

Borderlands 2 Celebrates Halloween With SHiFT Costume Codes

Gearbox Software will be celebrating Halloween today with SHiFT codes that will unlock unique character customization skins for your Borderlands 2 characters (via Joystiq). Tune into the Gearbox Twitter and/or Facebook pages starting NOW and keep your eyes out for codes.

SHiFT is a feature built into Borderlands 2 that has so far allowed Gearbox to mass-distribute codes for unlockable Golden Keys. It also monitors player data behind the scenes. The service is still in its infancy, but things like Golden Key codes and now this Halloween promotion certainly seem to demonstrate the developer's commitment to harnessing what SHiFT can do.
