100 Best Mario Mash-Ups And Remakes

A recent post on Buzzfeed compiles 100 of the best re-imagined looks at Mario and friends. I love nothing more on earth than when people on the internet take a well known character and create a new back-story for him. There are 99 more pictures at the Buzzfeed link.

My only problem with this list: G4 isn't on it! This October, we smashed Mario up with the gritty, vertite film-making of Gasper Noe and early Martin Scorsese. Check out the poster and video for "Kart Driver" under the Read More tag.

The BioShock fan film, New Year's End, by Jared Potter transports us to a very significant event in Rapture's history. The short follows a group of splicers and their mission to change the course of Andrew Ryan's vision of utopia. It's really well done, and BioShock fans around the office have been walking around with nerd chills all day after seeing it. If you want more info on the fan film you can check out the New Year's End website.

Now that you've seen how the events in BioShock began, why don't you check out the latest heavy hitter video from BioShock Infinite on the Boys of Silence?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to visit your past self to show off the wonders of the video games from the present? Freddie Wong has... and the picture is not pretty.

The video below made my Friday... but it also made me sad for the present day.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is so big and immersive that you can literally never finish the entire thing. If you think you've completed every dungeon, slain every dragon, chopped every piece of wood, and you're now finding yourself a bit bored, why don't you try the Skyrim cabbage trick shot, made famous by Rooster Teeth? All you need is a bucket, a cabbage, some high alteration skills, and a lot of time.

If you liked the Skyrim trick shot, why don't you watch the Portal 2 trick shot video as well?

Let's take a look behind-the-scenes of Quantic Dream's Kara video, do you want to? I know I do. I have ever since I saw the amazing Kara demo from GDC.  Luckily, I've got just the video for you. It's below. It's the future of games, people.

Olympus must fall in Holmade Games' brand new 8-bit version of God of War, Bit of War. We've seen 8-bit remakes of tons of games and shows, like Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones, but this one seems to take the cake. You can download the free-to-play game and check it out for yourself at the Bit of War website, but really there's nothing holding you back. I mean, just watch the trailer below and you'll see just how rad a pixelated Kratos can be.

Artist Dean Walton has created a limited edition set of beautiful Skyrim-inspired artwork entitled "Dragonborn Destinations." The pieces all offer a classy view of various places around Tamriel, including Winterhold, Whiterun, Solitude, Windhelm, and Markarth. You can check out all of the Skyrim prints over at Game Print, and you can even purchase the full set for £37.50 GBP.

If I could only choose one, I'd probably go with the Winterhold print. What about you?

Ever wondered what Battlefield 3 would sound like with Nintendo sound effects? Wonder no more! YouTube user Omega52 made the mash-up that is both funny and instructive -- Sound design is really important in games!

There are a lot of impressive video game fan films out there, and the latest to join their ranks is Halo: The Fallen. This prologue for the full film was completed on a budget of less than $200 and shows a veteran of the Human-Covenant war recollecting his first encounter with the Covenant. Check it out below.

If you're a Halo fan, why don't you check out our Halo 4 FAQ, featuring everything we know about the game?

Half-Life Citadel Compared To Real Life Buildings

The Citadel from the Half-Life series is one of the tallest buildings in a video game. Standing nearly 2.5 kilometers high, it's hard to even fathom how massive it would be if it were a structure in real life. Before you strain your brain trying to figure out how it would tower over everything, look at this image from reddit. It shows the Citadel in comparison to incredibly tall buildings from around the world. Too see the full picture, keep reading.

Of course Half-Life's Citadel has nothing on Mass Effect's Citadel.

I've always been a huge fan of video game music, and it's no question that The Legend of Zelda series features some of the best there is. Violinist Taylor "ViolinTay" has created a beautiful Zelda Medley with her violin, and even made her own backtrack. Check it out below.

What's your favorite song from the entire Legend of Zelda series?

Game Of Thrones Meets Minecraft In A Server Of Fire And Ice

A large part of our office, myself included, is currently obsessed with the fantasy novel/HBO miniseries Game of Thrones. That's why, when we saw that a team of people are trying to recreate parts of the fantasy universe in a Minecraft server called A Server of Fire and Ice, we got pretty psyched. They're currently working on the capital city of King's Landing, where the Lannister's hold the throne, and The Wall, home of the Night's Watch. Personally I'd like to see Highgarden.

You can check out the official A Server of Fire and Ice's website to learn more about the project.

Hey Tsung, hey Tsung, guess what? Chicken butt. Those are the kinds of jokes that you hear when the Annoying Orange plays Mortal Kombat. Personally I think the Annoying Orange is funny, but a lot of people around the office want to throw him in a juicer.

Note: This video contains strong language!

Feast your ears on this seriously legit Mass Effect Rap. It was created by Dan Bull, the same wordsmith who created the Skyrim rap last November. The rap recaps Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 with shout outs to homegirl Tali and my homie Wrex. If you're as stoked for Mass Effect 3 as I am, but opted to not replay the first to again as refresher, this video will serve as a nice recap. Check it!

Of course, if you want more Mass Effect videos, I can oblige. We've got  Mass Effect 3 X-Play Palaven Exclusive , X-Play's Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Preview , Mass Effect 3 "The Beginning," and Mass Effect 3 "New Features".

There are two things I love most in life: Examinations of the cultural issues surrounding the fluidity of gender, and the bat-sh*t obsessiveness of video game fans. The video below contains huge gobs of both.

As you may not know, Poison from the original Final Fight released back in 1989, may have been created as a trans-sexual character. Rumors, speculation and cultural misunderstanding have swirled around her/his gender since then. It's an interesting case because Poison will be a playable character in Street Fighter X Tekken.

YouTube user MegatonStammer has attempted to settle the issue once-and-for all with an obsessively researched documentary about the matter that should close the case once-and-for all. Spoiler: Poison is almost certainly transgender.

Check out the video below:
