Links of TheFeed: Assassinating Zelda

What would happen if Link visited 16th century Italy? This week's Links of TheFeed answers that question with this rather awesome Zelda/Assassin's Creed fan sketch. Though the picture does look tempting, I have to admit that I'm not so keen about assassinating guards with the Master Sword.  Then again, hidden blades would come in handy when trying to dispatch a certain annoying fairy. Check it out below!

I'm completely annoyed by the video below. It's in Spanish, and shows off "crazy Link" antics from the Zelda games. It's very annoying, but then, it's amusing, too. I can't stop watching it.  Funny or annoying? You tell me in our comment section.

We all knew it was only a matter of time before someone made a Super Mario version of the Nyan Cat. I'm surprised it took this long to be honest. Mario Nyan Cat has a sweet hat, an 8-bit rainbow tail and chiptune nyan nyan music. This one's a keeper.

I present to you The Legend of Navi: A Link to the Past. This video ditches the the small, subtle version of Navi and replaces her with the a big, bearded man. As you may have guessed, this Navi is about nine million times more annoying than Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Angry Birds and cake. Two delicious, utterly enjoyable items with absolutely no downsides or negatives to speak of. But add a dash of reality to the mix and you get nightmare fuel, courtesy of Threadcakes, an annual contest which sees art from Threadless t-shirts shake 'n' baked into cakes. Want an example? Why not check out the Angry Birds cake below?

No, really. You can have the first piece. I'm suddenly not very hungry.

Thank Jamie Masterson for her submission and just try not to think about serving this at your next birthday.

The zombie apocalypse, when it happens - and it will happen - is bound to be a tragic event, full of blood, gore, and little girls falling out of windows. So thank goodness for Plants vs. Zombies, which reminds us that the zombie infection, subsequent turning and merciful death of a close friend can also be hilarious to watch. Or more specifically, thank Dorkly.com, who gave the Internet the lovely gift you can find below:

It's getting to be lunch time around here. Want to know what I'm hungry for? Tell you what, just lean in a little closer, and let me have a little nibble...

Video Game Name Generator -- Nugget From The Net

When a new video game comes out the common reaction is, "I've played a game like this before." Pessimistic gamers might assume the gaming industry is out of ideas. The internet has come to rescue us from our own lack of ideas with the Video Game Name Generator. Simply click "Create" and watch the magic happen.

Here are some of the games it suggested for me, trademarks pending.

  • Undertaker Rising
  • Joe Montana's Combat Smoke Signaling
  • Scottie Pippen's Backyard Embalming
  • Master Pet Riot Revenge
  • Burrito Hunter

Burrito Hunter obviously has the most potential.

Skyrim, the latest entry in Bethesda Softworks' Elder Scrolls series, will finally be unleashed later this year, on November 11. You might not be waiting that long to venture back to the land of Tamriel again, however. Andoran: Prologue is a full conversion mod for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which is set for release in the second half of 2011, according to the mod's official website.

In the wake of the US Supreme Court ruling that classified video games as protected speech, gamers were overjoyed. Jon Stewart was not. Neither was Senator Leland Yee.

Well, NotWorkingFilms has a little something to say about that, courtesy of a handy quote from comedian Marcus Bigstroke: "Computer games don't affect kids; I mean, if Pac-Man had affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in a darkened room munching pills and listening to repetitive music."

So behold, Stewart and Yee: this is what you have to fear from video games infecting the minds of the young: Pac-Man Highway.

And here I thought the biggest danger driving at night was hitting a deer. That'll show me to trust reality!

A fan of Portal has made a music video of sorts for Valve's Portal 2. The video contains spoilers. I repeat, it has spoilers! It also has a catchy tune, some sweet animation and a message for the kids. The message is stay away from Aperture Science.

Kinect mods are just about as common as Minecraft mods these days. I've yet to see a mod that allows you to control a helicopter though. until today. A Kinect has been modded to let you control a quadrotor vehicle, or specifically, a quadcopter. I don't know exactly how this will have a real life purpose but I like where this is going. I like it a lot.

A Grand Theft Auto 4 mod was recently introduced into the community by user IcE La Glace that enhances the graphics in the PC version of the game to jaw dropping heights. Looking at the videos of the mod alone, called iCEnhancer, we'd say this is along the lines of what we'd want GTA 5 to look like. iCEnhancer is an engine mod that adds his-res textures and lighting to the game. Check out the first video below, followed by a second video after the cut showing off some of the new environmental effects.

Before I begin, I'd like to apologize for the Nyan-sin I'm about to commit. In Duke Nukem Forever, it's up to Duke to come up with a plan to defeat the evil aliens. Armed with a dry-erase marker, Duke can draw anything. His plan: Earth's savior is a cat/poptart in space.

You may have noticed the video's audio is in Russian. I'm actually fluent and was able to translate part of the video for you.

Translation: "nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan nyan."

Special effects videos are some of my favorite on YouTube, so this video, titled "Man vs. Katamari" by Freddie Wong got me pretty excited. Watch the short yet hilarious video below to find out what might happen if you choose to punt the next Katamari ball you see.
