Leipzig GC 2008

More Guitar Hero World Tour news coming at ya: Straight from the source in Leipzig, Germany. Here's what we know about the game's online ranking system:

It will work similarly to Call of Duty 4's prestige system, where points will be alloted for doing well within the game. There will be 50 levels to attain, and each can be flipped five times, for you ultimate-rockers out there.

The levels will be "redeemable" for in-game items like new instruments, hairstyles and clothing, so almost RPG-ish element to it.

No word on whether online Guitar Hero World Tour will have a ranking system based on these stats, but it wouldn't be surprising at all.

UPDATE (8.21.08): It turns out we got some wires crossed on this story:  According to a Red Octane rep.,  there is no new peripheral. There is an option in the Studio Mode to add keyboard sounds but that comes from the guitar. The input port on the drums is for any other instrument you would like to add to the tracks. Our apologies for misinterpreting.

We just got the hot word from Neversoft's Brian Bright, and we have some big Guitar Hero World Tour news:

A new peripheral is coming. The new periph. is specifically for the game's Studio mode, to help you make music, and while Bright wouldn't go into detail about what it will be, we are speculating that it will be a keyboard. Again, not for use in the game, but for use in the game's studio.

We think it'll be a keyboard because, simply, that's the best way to control music input... but, hey, we might end up being wrong. Look for an official announcement in the upcoming months. We'll let you know more when we know more.

North America and Europe will be receiving their PS3 160GB bundle shipments this fall, but Australia won't be getting Sony's new hardware package, as announced by the company today (via IGN)

The latest system bundle comes pack with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a new 160gb hard drive and a PSN download voucher for Pain. Although Australia won't get their hands on the 160gb package, the new PSP 3000 and wireless SIXAXIS keyboard will still come to their shores.

The Uncharted PS3 160gb bundle will be available in North America for $499.99, and in Europe for 499 Euros.

According to reports out of Leipzig, Sony says PlayStation Home, the MMO/lobby system coming to the PlayStation 3, will have adults-only areas. But before you get your hopes up about a digital Sony red-light district, it's probably not going to be like that.

PlayStation Home boss Peter Edwards told IC Gamers “In the short-term, there probably won’t be many but in the long-term, we expect to see them. For instance, a casino or even somewhere you can go and see 18-rated trailers for games."

Notice, Edwards didn't say anything about hot girl-on-avatar action--we predict you won't be seeing that anytime soon.

X-Play's Abbie Heppe got her lucky hands on Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC, and here's what she thought...

Rockstar shows their love for the PC again with a massively up-res’ed version of Grand Theft Auto 4 due out in November, and the improvements and extra features might be enough to inspire even diehard console gamers to jack a computer and give Liberty City a visit on the PC.

The most noticeable difference between the PC version of the game and the console versions are the graphics. GTA IV PC outputs at 2560x1600 with improved textures and draw distances, meaning that even on a 106” television the graphics are downright breathtaking. In the “3 Leaf Clover” mission shown behind closed doors at the Leipzig Games Convention, the improvements are most noticeable when speeding over the bridges into the towering downtown environments. While the port is a work in progress, the best basis for graphic comparison is this: The trees lining the city streets haven’t been redone for PC yet, and basically look like square paper collages compared to the rest of the game, again on a television larger than the walls of many New York, I mean, Liberty City, apartments.
