Heavy Rain's impressive Games Convention 2008 debut was a presence felt by the media and gamers, and developer Quantum Dream has confirmed (via EuroGamer) that a demo of the title will be available.

Studio president David Cage said that, "of course, there will be a demo" for their mysterious adventure title. Cage mentioned that the demo will primarily focus on gameplay mechanics and steer away from revealing too much about the title's plot. "We've spent a lot of time working on the story this time; we've worked with people from Hollywood, script writers, to really make it just right.," said Cage. And as for downloadable content? "This is something it's really too early to talk about, but it's definitely a possibility," he said.

Space Invaders Attack WTC?

Posted August 21, 2008 - By Frank Meyer

An art installation at the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany as part of a 30th anniversary celebration of Space Invaders is raising lots of eyebrows.

Because it’s a mod that sets the classic 1978 arcade game against the backdrop of the destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, that’s why!

French-American artist Douglas Edric Stanley claims his “30 Years of Space Invaders” exhibit is using the World Trade Center attacks as a metaphor. It’s an interactive large installation, where the players must prevent the attack by shooting the invaders before they decimate the towers.

It pains us to tell you about this, but there is a new, green version of the 360 controller with an improved D-Pad out there. But you will not be able to use it. The limited edition controller is limited to Europe, Asia and Latin America. Everywhere but here! The pad was deigned specifically for Pro Evolution Soccer, hardly the biggest blockbuster on U.S. soil.

"The new limited-edition green wireless controller offers enhancements to d-Pad functionality, which will add to the experience of playing games where the d-Pad is the primary control mechanism," Microsoft told Eurogamer. It is "A limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last," the spokesperson said.

Do you care? Or is the current controller good enough?

When you're in Germany, and someone leads you into a dark room, you tend to get a little nervous. Luckily, in this case, we were led into a dark room by our pals at Gamecock, who had a first look at Velvet Assassin to give us...so, we looked. And this is what we saw.

The game starts with the main character, Violet Sumner, lying injured in a hospital bed, bleeding and in bad shape. The game takes place as Violet tries to reconstruct her memories to figure out what happened to her, and, as such, you play a good portion of the game through her memory, which, we're told, eventually catches up and the story moves forward.

Mark Thompson, Lead Mission Designer for Wheelman, walks you through the first mission of Midway's new game in this video. The mission is called "Introducing Benito."

Vin Diesel has also joined the cast of this action game and looks to be a major player in the game's story. You'd hope that he plays a big role because they probably paid him a lot of money to be in the game.

Today, we were treated to a hands-on of Codemasters' new Rise of the Argonauts here in Germany, and we got to play amongst the Gods for a few minutes or so. Now, right off the bat, you're going to want to compare this game to God of War, and it's a fair comparison to make. Pawn of the Gods doing trials to try and please them? Check. Messing with the Titans? Check. God-like powers bestowed on your person and weapons by those very same Gods? You betcha.

The game is very pretty, even in an unfinished state, and there are a lot of really cool combat maneuvers to be had here, but make no mistake, this is an RPG, which will allow you to change the flow of the story based on the choices you make and the answers you give to questions that appear along the way. You're not funneled into making these decisions, but rather live and die by them, kind of like real life...if you happen to be Jason trolling around the Greek Isles with the Argonauts.
